Jess Valette

Name: Jess Valette

Age: 21

Appearance: Jessica is rather small, standing only 5'5" tall and weighing at best 100 lbs. Much of that is due to her drug use rather than genetics, however. The life she lives is harsh and cruel and it shows in every aspect of her appearance. Her face is pretty, though expressionless. Dark brown eyes stare out at the world blankly through a sheet of dyed black hair the consistency of straw and colored with faded red and orange streaks. Thickly painted red lips take up most of her face, contrasting greatly with her pale skin.

Her clothing choices are random, consisting of whatever she can dig out of dumpsters or steal from discount racks outside thrift stores. She wears heavy makeup and silver facial jewelry, mostly stolen as well. Jess carries several daggers and knives; one strapped to her thigh, another to her wrist and a third she carries in her pocket. It's more of a decoy than a true weapon.

Personality: The best word to summarize Jess is enraged. It's the only emotion she lets herself feel deeply.  The rest of them, especially the 'good' ones, she blocks out with the use of controlled substances or sex. Her life experiences have turned her into a hateful, bitter woman with a short fuse and violent temper. She does have a sense of humor, but mostly it comes at the expense of someone else. Tearing people down and laughing about it is her favorite pastime.

Jess doesn't let anyone into her innermost thoughts and feelings; anyone who attempts it is likely to see the tip of her blade at their throat. She confides in no one, since she has yet to find anyone she can trust. Even her twin brother has no idea what goes on in her head and he experienced the same cruel twists of fate as she had.

History: The middle of the four Valette siblings, twelve year old Jessica Margo Valette was a popular honors student and a budding cheerleader. She was very sociable and had little trouble making friends with both students and faculty. Counselors discussed the possibility of letting her graduate early; kids planned parties around her schedule. Her twelfth birthday was the last genuinely happy day in her life.

In a little over a year, however, a series of tragedies ripped her from her home and family and left her and her siblings as orphans. For a few months, she and her siblings lived with relatives in Louisiana until oldest sister Kaycee turned 18 and took over their care. CPS had other plans, though, and shortly after, she and her brothers Theo and Max were dumped in separate foster homes. For two years, Jessica moved from foster home to foster home, while Kaycee fought the courts to return her siblings. The effort was ultimately successful and shortly after turning 16, she was reunited with her family.

By then, the damage had been done. Once excited about school and friends, Jess had become sullen and withdrawn, not speaking to people unless spoken to, and even then, she was bitter and angry. She lashed out at her family, creating so much tension in the household that she ended up running away more than once.  Her rage and fear led her to experiment with drugs and alcohol in an attempt to dull her pain, but that only lead to more trouble and rougher times. Jess ended up in juvie several times, until her 18th birthday when they let her out for good. She left with a friend and never looked back.

Now 21, Jessica continues on her wayward journey, never stopping long enough to think about where her life is going. Each day is merely a struggle from one moment to the next; her only goal is securing her next fix.
