Succesion:
Because of the large amount of power given to the leader of the polity the sons of Nemedia have an extremely unusual rite of succesion for who becomes the next chairman.

Electing the chairman itself is not that much of an affair and the next chairman is chosen by the heads of the specific branches of the sons of Nemedia who were elected by their own branches of service and accepted by the chairman for their position. The main oddity is the process you need to go through to even become electable as chairman.

For a person to become chairman of the Sons of Nemedia he (or she) needs to go through a set of five trials: The trial of the flesh, the trial of the spirit, the trial of skill, the trial of courage and the trial of wisdom. Each of these trials has specific requirements to be met and can either be set up specifically as a trial or major decisions in ones life can be seen as the trial.

Trial of the flesh:
The trial of the flesh is that a person must have first gone through harsh pain and survived. This can be either a wound, torture or a pre-set trial with electric shocks and other tests to see if the leader of the sons of Nemedia can withstand pain.

Trial of the spirit:
All potential candidates will have needed to have a harsh personal tragedy of an extremely hard choice or have given judgement upon a person. This is to see if the leader of the sons of Nemedia is capable of making hard decisions and withstand emotional turmoil.

Trial of skill:
The leader of the sons of Nemedia will need to have proven their intellectual capabilities through a set of tests and physical capabilities are also often put in this category though it is not primary and one does not have to be physically strong to become the next chairman.

Trial of courage:
A person will need to risk his or her life for someone else or a cause in order to do this. In case a natural occasion like this doesn't happen and a person is a promising candidate a semi-play will be put into place so as to make it seem real. Though this is definitely not the favored option.

Trial of wisdom:
This trial is not one distinct event but how a person acts. The trial of wisdom is done by seeing if a person uses common sense and judgement in his day-day choices and decisions. This is often the hardest or easiest to judge but it is an essential one to become chairman as a rash chairman would not be a help for anyone.
