Jinrai the Potter

Name: Jinrai
Sobriquets: The Potter, The Man in the Mountain
Character Age: 28
Exaltation: Twilight Caste Solar Exalt
Concept: Wise Man

Background:

Jinrai is the son of Shinrai And Tali Windbrush, a husband and wife team of artists, a rare profession in the harbor city of Rosalia. The family was well known for creating exquisite pieces of art, even being called upon by the royal family to provide royal portraits throughout the kingdom's history. Though Jinrai had inherited his parents natural talent for painting, upon finding an abandoned potter's wheel that had once belonged to his grandfather, Jinrai discovered his love for pottery. His father allowed him to sell what pieces he made as part of the family business, and he began to call himself Jinrai the Potter.

One day, the family received a visit from a grey old man in red robes who asked for Jinrai to make him a vase of very exact proportion and detail. His parents seemed apprehensive of the man's arrival, but Jinrai accepted the order without question. The task proved difficult, with Jinrai trying and failing three times before finally completing what the old man had asked for. The old man then revealed himself as Tenno, a Man in the Mountain, and that Jinrai was to join their order.

The Men in the Mountain

An order of wise men and forgemasters, The Men in the Mountain trace their beginnings back to Ember, the master who had forged the mighty Skyfang, The Blade of Kings. Known by their red robes, they are called upon by the royal family and many others to provide wisdom, healing, and knowledge of the spiritual realms. Additionally, they provide the weapons and armor of the Steel Vanguard and The Rose Guard, forged in the fires of their secret shrines deep within the White Mountains.

The Sun's Call

In his tenth year with the Order, Jinrai was standing on a mountain top, overlooking the kingdom at the setting of the sun. Enthralled by the beauty of the sight, Jinrai was suddenly possessed of the need to capture it forever. Upon a great canvas, he began to paint, but his hands were not his own. When the last brush stroke fell, he saw that he had not painted the kingdom that he loved, but a terrible war of monsters and shining heroes, and above all, a mighty sun god with the face of righteousness. It was then that Jinrai noticed that he was burning with bright flames of gold and blue. From his long studies, he knew that he had been chosen, and as there are no secrets among the Men, the whole order soon knew that Solar Lighting had struck the mountaintop.

The Legend Begins

After the treachery of the Scarlet Empire and the slaughter of much of the Royal Family, the Men in the Mountain thought it necessary to remind the newly crowned Queen that the full support of their order was behind her. So it was that Jinrai the Potter came down from the mountains to formally renew their fealty to her, and to offer her whatever his Sun given gifts could provide...
