Travelling Triad
URJINTLY AS STARBEARERS" read the large pink handpainted letters on a dark green sign that demanded the eyes' attention.
Below the large letters were smaller ones further mispelling other words, but somehow you managed to get the gist of it: Hopefuls for the world renowned Solengrad city guard were to travel to the far off city for the entrance trials.

"Awl aboard! Laaast cawl! Solengrad!" spat a short orc in a loud voice as he banged his bare hand against a very large drum.
What he lacked in height, he more than made up for in muscle tone and facial hair. The dusk sun gleamed off of the water as his words and drum beats echoed around and through the harbour.

You had made the journey from your homeland.
Varndir, the kingdom of trial and adventure, lay before you. Its biggest river, the Serpent's Spine wound westward towards the Grey Mountains and the setting sun and towards your destination.
Walking over the gangplank onto the barge, it struck you how much less this orc caller smelled of salt compared to the mariners you had spent your past days with.
Then he proceeded to make your ears ring.
"Solengrad! Laaaast cawl!" he called.

I'll be trying my hand at DM this time round so that Damian can also join in the role play fun as a player for once!
We'll be using 5ed DnD rules. Attached is the Player's Handbook (PHB).
Look through it and start planning and making a character you'd like to role play as - anything goes, as long as you're not a villain.
Give them a solid history as a foundation to role play from.
Work on a reason as to why your character is headed to the city as one of the hopefuls to join the Starbearers - the first and lowest bracket within the city guard, the Sunspears.
Chapter 4 in the PHB will help a lot with character creation. You're welcome to chop and change bits from the archetypes that they suggest there, just check in with me about them.
I'm not too phased though, as long as you have 2 traits (preferably one positive and one negative), 1 ideal, 1 bond and 1 flaw.
Also note - you'll begin at level 2 and each have 50 extra gold pieces when you begin since you have left something of a life behind on another continent.
You may spend any amount of this during character creation in addition to any items/gold you receive during creation. Or you can hang onto it, it's up to you.

Just something to note; you're a small group, so extreme specialization will further limit what your party is capable of.
As you could probably gather from the kingdom's epithet, I plan on making encounters both interesting and challenging, but that is by means a call for min-maxing.
I'd much rather that you create interesting and versatile characters rather than solely combat driven ones, so don't gimp yourselves either.
