Princes of the Apocalypse (sim-h)

Campaign Details

This is a D&D 5th edition campaign for 4 or 5 players, set in the Sword Coast North region of Faerûn in the Forgotten Realms setting. It is an epic-length campaign, with the characters beginning at first level and progressing all the way to level 15 or thereabouts. I have every intention of seeing through the entire campaign. Whether we all manage to do that or not remains to be seen!

Each player will have an individual introduction to the campaign tailored to his or her character, constructed once the DM has each player's character details. The PCs will come together organically early in the campaign prologue - they will (probably) not know each other IC before that.

The style of the campaign is pretty balanced - there is combat, interaction and exploration! All I will say is that the emphasis is more on 'Dungeons', rather less on 'Dragons'...

Being D&D, this is High Fantasy and quite heroic, but I personally prefer gritty Low Fantasy settings. Elements of that will probably come through in the campaign, without altering its basic nature. Don't try casting magic spells in people's shops, for example, they won't like it...

Please peruse the Campaign Conventions thread for DM conventions and expectations. If you like the sound of the game feel free to request to join.

About your DM

My name is Simon, I'm based in London UK. I have returned to DMing D&D after a break of 25 years - since 1st edition, more or less. I did play some Call of Cthulhu and GURPS back in the nineties but then switched to computer and boardgaming.

Reminiscing with some other gamers and work colleagues, I heard about the D&D Next playtest and followed it with interest. Seeing the reviews indicating it was a return of sorts to an 'old school' and streamlined approach without dozens of supplementary rulebooks, I decided to take the plunge and purchase the core books. I was pleasantly surprised with the rules evolution and the step away from 4e which I hated the look of.

It was very easy to get a group together to play this campaign face to face. They are currently on session 19. I aim to use a lot of the experience of running the campaign 'Live', to help make this forum-based version as enjoyable as it can be for the players.
