Theodoric

Theodoric is the eldest son of Aeotor, cheiftan of the Aeogols, one of many small nomadic clans residing on the remote and distant Elaenian Steppes. At the age of 8, Theodoric was kidnapped by a slave-trading orc named Trubblusk. He was promptly carried far away from the steppe and sold to a goblin tribe on the edge of the Endless Mountains. He became the property of a hobgoblin named Lomskud and he was forced, with other human slaves, to mine ore. Theodoric and number of other young human slaves escaped. Malnourished and disoriented, the slaves wandered through the labyrinth of mountian passes and caves. Lomskud hunted the refugees relentlessly. The hobgoblin recaptured many of the slaves. Those who could still be made useful were returned to the mines. Those who were now too exhausted or wounded from their flight were murdered. Theodoric and several others avoided Lumskud as they fled deeper into the mountains. One by one, Theodoric’s companions fell, dying from starvation or exposure. He was soon alone and very nearly dead. Lomskud spotted Theodoric alone near a distance precipice and ordered three goblin henchmen to climb to the peak and to finish Theodoric. Lomskud then turned back to return to his mines. The goblins pursued Theodoric to the zenith. After several hours, they overtook the boy. Theodoric waited at the cliff’s edge as the goblins approached. Desperate, Theodoric watched helplessly and prepared to throw himself over the rock face. A thunderous roar halted all movement on the precipice. A lammasu decended from the fog and quickly dispatched the three goblins before gently collecting Theodoric in his paws to carry him eastward toward the nearest human settlement. The lammasu brought Theodoric to the town of Nor and placed him at the gate of a stronghold. A paladin named Eremophilus took the boy to his home and raised him among his own children. Now nearly 1,000 miles from his homeland, Theodoric had no way to return. The paladin trained and educated Theodoric as he did his own children. At the age 16, Theodoric began his training to become a paladin under the guidance of Eremophilus. The time drew near for Theo to take his oath. Eremophilius took Theodoric to stand before the temple elders. The elders refused to allow Theodoric to continue his training. They felt he lacked the requisite charm. Dejected, Theodoric soon left Nor. He longed to once again see the steppes and to reunite with his family. The journey was lonely and perilous and interminable. But many months later, Theodoric once again entered the land of Elaenia. The steppes, he found, were empty. The Aeogols and all other allied, neighboring, and rival clans were gone. There remained no trace of the nomads. Theodoric could not find human life on the vast grasslands. And in the distant border towns, Theodoric could find no one who knew what had happened to his people of the Elaenian plains.

He wandered alone until he came met the group.

After the Battle of Poisson, Theodoric aquiired and donned orcish armor. Grummsch, an ecil orcish god, possessed Theodoric. Grummsch tormented and tortured Theodoric's soul as the god attempted to currupt him. The two struggled for control. Grummsch maintained partial control for much of the time but Theodoric experienced moments of clarity. Hawk called in his friend, Grimly, who knew how to exorcise the evil god from Theodoric. The chances of a successful exorcism were bleak and during a momeent off clarity, Theodoric asked Grimly to provide him with a poweerful poison. Theodoric realized that he would soon loose to Grummsch and become muderous and evil. He feared that he would murder his friends the momment Grumsch took full control. Then, as he felt Grumsch begin to consume him, he drank the poison and died. The struggle did not end there. Grimly fought to bring Theodoric back. In doing so, Grimly lost his life but savee Theo's. Though the struggle took place over the course of a few short days, Theodoric perceived an unknowable amount of time withiin Grumsch's personal version of hell. His hair lost all color. Theodoric became increasingly focused on maintaining his own purity and he returneed to his faith in his God of Pure Light, the god that he had sought to serve during his time in Nor with his mentor Eremophilius (Remos).

Theodoric's devotion to the God of Pure Light has lead him back to his orginal path. He has been reunited with Remos and he is now a paladin, having recently taken The Oath of Devotion.

Within the group, his relationships have been strained. Hawk and Bart were there for him during his struggle with Grumsch and they helped him build the farm. But they are now both dead as a result of Panian's vampirism. He still finds it hard to forgive Panian because he feels that Panian delighted in the powers he received as a vampire and that Panian's willingness to accept the darkness rather than fight against it led the to deaths of his beloved friends.
He was once very close to Krysnys, but after the Grumsch incident, their relationship changed and has never fully recovered. Though their loyalty to each other is unquestionable, there is a space between them that they have not been able to close.
He and Nymeria both share the same desire, to protect the group. But the two have very different ideas about how to do that. He beleives that the group can only protect itself from evil by remaining pure. He beleives that protecting the purity of the soul is even more important than survival as the struggle between good and evil transcends them all. Conversely, she accepts powers granted through a dark pact, powers that have saved members of the group from certain death several times. He fears for her soul and the price she will havee to pay for her powers. They represent two sides of a coin, two paths in the struggle toward the same goal. He is able to maintain his friendship with her because he understands that she is motived by love and that they ultimately want the same thing, but he disagrees so strongly with her methods that he often finds himself at odds with the group over her choices.
He likes and respects Charani. He sees her as an ally within the group because, though she can be very unpredictable, she is honest and loyal.
Loranys is Theodorics best friend within the group. He trusts her completely. He would not willingly let her go into danger alone.
