As a former marine, Mike is a little out of sorts on a merchant vessel.  He tends to let others take the initiative and then joins in after he has an idea of what they’re trying to get done.  Probably not the smartest brick in the wall, he was a marine after all, but he seems to know what he’s doing and catches on quickly.  He's ready to lend a hand and eager to put some sweat equity into this unfamiliar merchant venture he’s signed on to.

Mike generally wears what you’d think a typical former marine would wear, worn loose fatigues you’d probably find in a second hand store and a pair of leather boots to match.  He had queried the Captain about shipboard uniforms and seemed disappointed that they wouldn’t all be in complimentary dress.  Typical marine with their penchant for uniformity.

Prior to the ban on shipboard weapons, he’d been wearing an autopistol on his hip but it’s now stowed along with a well used cutlass in his quarters.  It looks as though he’d gotten a lot of use from that cutlass in the marines.

He doesn’t talk about his past much but he has said that he grew up on a waterworld and didn’t have many options other than enlisting in the marines or with a corporate research outpost.  He didn’t have the education for the corporate side so he signed on the dotted line.
