Destiny Byers

Name: Destiny Byers

Spoiler text: (Highlight or hover over the text to view)
Play-By: Rebekah Marine

Age: 26

Occupation: Motivational Speaker.

Birth Place: Tempe, Arizona. Currently residing in good ole California.

Sexuality: She is a pansexual woman. The attraction lies with the personality of the person, not their gender traits. Truth be told, she has rarely found the right connection with a woman, and her limited dating has typically been with men.

Physical Description: Destiny Byers stands at five foot eight inches. She's a bit on the taller side for most females, but she's not full on model height. To ask her, she'd say that she's pretty enough, which may be true. She doesn't really go out of her way to make herself this super glorified sex-kitten. She has pleasant angular features, full soft feminine lips. She has a fairly average body. Nice waist to hip ratio, though she is a bit smaller in the bosom department than she'd like to be. Most women have something that they want to change in terms of that. What she lacks for breasts she makes up with the booty. She is actually fairly thick on the lower-half for such a slender woman, which nearly gives her a pear shape, versus that of an hourglass.

  • Her eyes are hazel in color, being a mesh of a bluish green and brown. Different lights came make her eyes seem like they are different colors, but that's the joy of having hazel hues.

  • Her hair is a deep brown in color, though in the summer months and with a lot of sun the strands fade into a deep dirty blonde shade thanks to bleaching.

In terms of fashion, she wears whatever she finds to be comfortable. She has an arsenal of clothing, though most of it is that of jeans, and tees. If not that then work out clothing. Of course she has dresses and skirts, but she enjoys being more casual in her appearance.

Distinguishing Marks: There is one thing that is clearly obvious. The fact that she has a bionic arm/hand. Without that, she lacks an appendage. This can be startling for people, but in her years she has grown accustomed to the potential shock factor that could come from those exposed to an amputee. In other distinguishing marks, despite how  "sweet" she looks, she harbors somethings that people might consider a bit "naughty." She actually has several piercings that are typically not visible upon first inspection. She has a right nostril piercing, though the stud is so small at times, it's easy to miss being on her visage. She has her left nipple pierced. Her naval is pierced. She has microdermal hip piercings, as well as as something a bit further down south. To see that, one would have to be up close and personal because she's not the type to divulge that sort of information willy-nilly.

Personality: Her personality type is classified as that of a Dreamer. Dreamers are idealistic and deeply sensitive. They are characterized by their loyal and gentle nature. Beneath their easygoing disposition runs a fixed passion for the causes they believe in and the people they selflessly care for. They are driven by their values and seek peace. That is the very definition of the depths of Destiny.

When it comes to Destiny she is loyal, caring and warm with the people that she has briought into her inner most circle. On one hand she is  playful, fun and possesses a unique sense of humor. On the other hand she can be quite intense and serious. She is extremely generous with praise and encouragement. In return she often looks for affirmation, affection and integrity from those around her, and more importantly from herself. Deep down she is a romantic.

Ultimately, she is highly idealistic. She defends her values and does not like to have them challenged. She is the perfect catalyst for harmony and healing. Her greatest contribution is her ability to be present with another person at a deep level.

Back Ground: As much as one would like to say that she had a spectacular childhood, unfortunately for Destiny, she did not. At a very tender age of two, her parents, Dennis and Deborah Byers, noticed a strange development in her milestones. She didn't use her right hand properly. Taking her to the doctor's proved to be the correct course of action. She had a rare form of osteogenic sarcoma developing. Typically it didn't show up in children until they were age ten. It was even rarer for females to have such an issue. Luckily it was caught before too much damage could be done to her small body. In order to save her from having to go through chemotherapy and radiation which likely would do little to stop the sarcoma from spreading, they decided that amputation was the proper course of action as the tumor was isolated in the bone of her forearm.

It was difficult for her parents to deal with. Luckily for her, as she was too young to truly remember the experience, growing up without a hand just seemed natural. She couldn't miss what she never had to begin with.

Children around her seemed to take to her, but parents always treated her differently. Teachers did as well. This was something that in her youth, she picked up on. She was always shy as a kid, primarily because of the lack of her appendage. She struggled with keeping a prosthetic on simply because of the fact she was so young. Trying to learn in school, run, and play, simply  be a child. A kid typically didn't have the patience to make sure that everything was in proper order.

It wasn't until her teen years that the notion of being without really seemed to hit home with her. She was picked on, and bullied by a lot of teens. That was how they were. It destroyed her confidence for quite some time. She eventually got over about her sophomore year. If she felt sorry for herself, how could she blame other people for feeling the same? When her attitude picked up, her friend count did too. She stripped away the shyness and proved herself to be a kind, and intelligent girl.

She had shown an interest in prosthetic and more empowerment for herself after graduation. She started researching and ultimately found a company that was willing to allow her to test a myoelectric prosthetic arm. She took to the "bionic" accessory quickly, and from there it only fueled her passion to help people, much like herself realize that they are capable just as anyone else. She started out small, working local venues and colleges speaking to people. All it took was one good article. It felt like over night she blew up and became some what of a "celebrity" to the disabled community.

She is still young, but time is ticking by. In truth she wants a family, but being so focused on her career and helping others, along the way she has forgotten to help herself in terms of romance. So, her best friend Emily Harper submitted in her information into the show in hopes of helping her find what she had been ignoring, or putting off as it were.

Likes: Laughing. Seeing people happy. Giving opportunities to people who normally wouldn't have them. Twizzlers. Cheesecake. Okay. Sweets. She loves sweets.

Dislikes: Cilantro. Moody and judgmental people. Cilantro.. really, she can not express how much she hates that herb.

Strengths:
  • Loyal and devoted
  • Deep capacity to care and love
  • Warm and playful
  • Excellent at reading feelings and motives of others
  • Desires to meet the needs of others

Weaknesses:
  • Tends to react emotionally
  • Extreme dislike of criticism
  • Tendency to blame themselves
  • Has trouble in conflict situations

Fears: Not finding someone to be happy with. Despite her ability to have confidence in her physical self, she still hides a lot emotionally. Letting down that wall is a fear, because deep down, it's hard to know the true nature in what people desire from you.

Fun Facts:

  • In her spare time she also runs a fashion blog which has gained a lot of popularity on various social media outlets.

  • She has been featured as a speaker at several technological schools due to the advanced nature of her arm. She has spoken at these schools in terms of what it's like to have a functioning robotic arm.

  • Her favorite adult drink in the world is a Baltimore Zoo.

  •   She has a foundation called Lucky Fin in which helps children with disabilities, either with supplies or psychological help in understanding their problems. She has gotten permission from Disney to use Nemo as the official mascot for the foundation.

  • She loves to travel.

  • She has a deep love for geeky things.

  • She has been asked to model with various other disabled women. She has done a few runway events, but she does not consider herself a model by any means.

  • She wears reading glasses, but doesn't need corrective lenses all the time. She now has contacts and glasses.

  • She adores MMA and fighting based sports.

The Perfect Guy/Girl for You: Well, that's a loaded sort of question. The reason that is said to be loaded is the key word of perfect. I myself am an imperfect person, and that's fucking beautiful. I want someone who isn't afraid to mess up, to laugh with me, to cry, and to grow with me. I need someone who is open-minded and open-hearted. I demand passion, and joy. Most important of all, acceptance. Is that too much for anyone to ask for?

Season 1: At the end of Season 1, Destiny and David became an item. God, but did she love David, and truth be told, she still does. She did what she thought was right. Both them were excruciatingly busy, and she was asked to do a tour in Europe which would put her out of the country for the better part of a year. She didn't want David to be unhappy with her, or his life with her, and so she thought it was best to end things before she left. There was no way that she would be able to maintain her relationship with him in a healthy way over Skype. It just wouldn't work for her, and she thought that by letting him, them go, she was doing what was best, as much as it broke her own heart to do so.

She has no idea that David is on the second season, and since their break up, she has pretty much been brooding about life. Her friends have pushed her once again to try to move on with her life and join the show after she got a call to come back. She reluctantly agreed, because she had nothing else to lose.
