Gemma Blackwell

Name: Gemma Blackwell
Nicknames: just Gemma
Face/Model Claim: Emmy Rossum
Age: 28
Sexual Orientation: Pansexual
Nationality: American
Hometown: Columbus, Ohio
Relatives: Never found them, never wants to.

Job: She tends to take jobs where she doesn't have to interact with many people. Currently, she works for a cleaning service, cleaning vacation timeshares and properties in the area.
Skills: She attended a few self-defense classes after an attack.
Weapon(s): A butterfly knife she keeps in her boot.

Height: 5'10"
Weight: 140 lbs
Eye Color: Brown
Hair Color: Brown
Scars/Marks: A jagged scar that travels diagonally across her torso from left to right, starting just under her left breast and ending at her right hip, the result of a knife attack during an attempted sexual assault.

Appearance: She's the epitome of the term "rolled out of bed and out the door." She showers at night, let's her hair dry in her sleep, and pulls the semi frizzy mess into a ponytail after pulling on jeans and a t-shirt. It isn't that she's incapable of cleaning up and looking attractive, it's just that she has no motivation or care to do so because of her crippling depression and PTSD.

Power: Medium
Level: Adept (just barely)
Abilities: The Medium is starting to learn limited control on how to separate the voices.  They are now able to pick up different pitches in the voices and learn the different personalities of the spirits.  They are able to communicate with them only through voiced speech.  They are able to carry on completely conversations with the dead and tell one voice from another.  With plenty of concentration, they are able to seek out a spirit at will and guide them to come and speak with them.  This comes with very very limited shielding, and -only- when they are searching for a spirit can they shield the others for a limited time.  These shields do not apply in any other situation.

Weaknesses: Prone to possession, in which she has to fight the spirit in order to banish it from her body. Easily distracted by the voices of spirits. Frequently experiences Sensory Overload, which causes her to shut down and either become extremely irritable and desperate for quiet or a sobbing mess, still desperate for quiet.

She also has a weakness for Vampires. Specifically, being mind rolled by vampires. She seeks it out as often as she can. It's the only time that the voices are quiet, and so she frequents Freak Parties and hangouts in order to be fed from so she can get some peace.

Personality in Brief: Withdrawn, sullen, fearful of crowds and people in general. There is a potential there for a grounded, warm woman, but it will take lots of care and coaxing.
Any Other Notes: Has frequent suicidal thoughts and fantasies of dying or suicide, but is too afraid of the unknown to follow through with suicide.

History: From the moment she was born, Gemma never stood a chance. Not any real one, anyway. Born addicted to heroin, she was taken from her birth mother and placed in state custody. With the identity of her father unknown, Gemma was placed in a foster home to be cared for. However, Gemma displayed concerning behavior from birth. She was a baby with extreme colic and sleep disorders, explained away by doctors as just side effects of her addicted condition. As she grew older, she was bounced from foster home to foster home, each one claiming that they would love and adopt her, but her behavioral issues soon led them to think twice. No amount of childhood therapy helped with her condition. Soon, medications were started, but her progress was slow and for every step she took forward, she took two steps back.

During her school years, she would often get into trouble for telling other students stories that revolved around death and suffering, often saying that she had several friends who spoke to her in her head. After intense psychiatric evaluation, she was put into a home for troubled children to undergo more intense therapies, none of which worked in the long run.

After several troubled years, Gemma learned to manipulate people and say whatever they wanted to hear in order to get what she wanted. In this case, it was to be able to transition into society when she was eighteen years old. So she learned to ignore the voices and attempt better concentration, and by the end of the day she was ready to scream, and usually did against her pillow at night. The more she ignored the voices, the more they demanded her attention, and the louder they got, the brighter she shone as a beacon to the dead.

A couple years after her release into society, she discovered that when she took sleep aids, the only respite she got was when she slept. She bounced from relationship to relationship, finding men who could take care of her for a short time so she could take sleep aids and sleep for most of the day. By some miracle, she went five years before she overdosed, having become addicted to the sleep medication. After a stomach pumping and a hospital stay, she went to an inpatient rehab in order to try and learn to cope with her addiction to sedatives. Her boyfriend asked his family for money to pay for her stay, having cited Gemma as "the one," even though she didn't care for him in the same way. While she had no intention of paying her boyfriend's family back, she did take advantage of the rehab facility and did try to get better.

Unfortunately, she swapped one addiction for another, beating her addiction to sedatives, but after she was released, she went back to the same town, with the same friends. She was introduced to a mutual friend, who then invited Gemma and her friends to a party. It wasn't until after they arrived that they realized that it was a freak party. That first party, though she was very cunningly pursued by the vampires, she rejected their advances, having learned previously to never look a vampire in the eyes. However, the sights and sounds of euphoria that her friends displayed planted a curious seed in her brain. She attended another party soon after, though still refused the vampires. After she left the party, she walked downtown in order to get back to her apartment. Only a block down from her apartment, she was grabbed and dragged into an alley. Her assailant held a knife to her and attempted to violate her. She viciously fought back, and what was meant to be a sexual assault turned into an attempted murder. While her assailant dragged a knife along her torso, she held his wrists, pushing his hands back as hard as she could to keep the knife from going deeper. In the next moment, the man was lifted off of her, and as she scrambled back, she watched as one of the vampires from the party drank of her assailant's blood.

Terrified, she got to her feet and ran back to her apartment while the vampire feasted. She locked herself in her apartment with her roommates, hiding her injuries. The next night, the vampire came for her, knocking on her door. He spoke to her quietly through the door, offering to heal her of her wounds. She refused his help initially, but as the days went on and she developed an infection, she wished that she'd taken him up on his offer. She was able to get antibiotics and didn't attend another freak party for two months.

When she did attend, her vampire rescuer was in attendance. She felt guilty for not thanking him for saving her life, and so with lowered eyes, she approached him and thanked him. She cared not for the life of her assailant and, assuming that he had died that night, she didn't ask what the vampire had done to him. The two began to speak over several parties, and he never fed on another in front of her. After some time passed, the vampire gained her trust, and she finally allowed him to feed on her. It was the most pleasurable experience of her life. For once in her life, without having to sleep, the voices stopped. When he stopped feeding on her, she begged him for more, sobbing a confession to him of what she was and how she needed him to keep feeding on her.

The two formed an emotional bond with each other. He was careful to never drink too often from her while comforting her in her fits when the voices became too much. He cared for her, as much as a vampire really could, and did his best to comfort her to keep her as a regular supply. She fell deeply in love with him, or whatever it was that she thought love was. She remained in that "relationship" with him for over three years before he disappeared. No word, no note, no phone call. She woke up in his bed and he was gone. For weeks, she mourned, unable to discern what had caused his departure from her life. She stayed in his home for weeks until she packed up and left, unable to remain in the place they shared. She decided to leave town, that she needed a change of scenery, somewhere peaceful. Somewhere serene. Somewhere she could try and start over, though she would always have the voices in the back of her head. She chose the small town of Southport and bought a bus ticket.

Gemma has been in Southport for a year, and while the change in scenery did her some good, it didn't quell the voices of the dead. She turned again to vampire feedings, attending freak parties in Wilmington as often as she could. She currently battles depression and PTSD, suicidal fantasies, and is still nursing a broken heart for the vampire who left her.
