Ruth worked in retail part time while finishing secondary school despite being well taken cared of.  Her mother worked in a textile factory for nearly a decade, always pushed for Ruth to know the value of hard work and to be self-sufficient which ran against how most of her friends were like.  Despite working a part-time job, Ruth was an underachiever in everything except her English classes.  She taught herself Mandarin with books and video lessons.  She spent the majority of her free time with friends, on the internet, or playing video games.

But all was not well in her household, her mother has fibromyalgia and hepatitis B.  The constant pain has led for her mother towards an opioid addiction.  It was an addiction that her older brother suffered as well, leading towards the use of heroin.  The marriage between her parents was strained.

A year after graduating, Ruth had gotten herself a contractual job as an interpreter for oil and petroleum products.  While the work wasn’t necessarily steady, it paid well for the hours she devoted and had her travel around the world.  She had an unusual intuitive grasp of solutions when given problems.  As a world traveler, she was able to experience various cultures and see various political issues.  While she couldn’t be outspoken about her own government without repercussions, she could at least openly criticize other nations.  Often times, the problems are too large for a simple solution.  In those cases, she’ll persistently complain.

But underneath it all, her family held a supernatural legacy of safe-guarding the family heirlooms and passing down their powers.  She was the latest Waterbender and guardian of her family heirlooms when her brother's addiction spiraled out of control.

KNACKS (0 BP)
Language Mastery
The Scion can understand any language that is spoken to him. Once he’s heard a few sentences, he can then speak that language back as if he grew up among native speakers. Writing the language is a bit trickier, as he can only transliterate his written words in the alphabet of his native language until someone teaches him the alphabet and punctuation of the new language. For instance, say a Scion with this Knack whose native language is English has picked up French at Orly Airport in Paris and would like to leave a thank-you note for a bartender who gave him helpful information. That Scion might write, “Mare- see du mah-vay zayday,” to express his thanks, when what he really means is, “Merci de m’avez aidé.” Likewise, reading the new language can be difficult if that language uses characters that don’t appear in an alphabet with which he is already familiar.

Instant Translation
Prerequisite Knack: Language Mastery (Scion: Demigod, p. 65) As regards the spoken word, this Knack provides much the same benefit as its prerequisite. Yet where Language Mastery requires that the character listen for a while to get a sense of the strange language’s ebb and flow, this Knack allows the character to understand anything that is said to him in any language the moment it is spoken. Where this Knack truly surpasses its prerequisite is that it allows the character to read any written language with which he isn’t familiar, even if it’s written in characters that are completely alien to him. He can’t automatically write with perfect fluency in a new language he can speak or has read, but his written vocabulary is as broad as every word in that language that he has read.

Cipher
The Scion’s brain is his own personal Enigma machine. He can break any encryption and decode any message created by someone without Epic Intelligence, without the need for a roll. He can also design a one- time code for a specific recipient that cannot be broken by anyone without Epic Intelligence (regardless of how smart such a person is or what decryption equipment he might have on hand). Only a fellow Scion with Epic Intelligence can even attempt to break the code—calling for opposed (Intelligence + Academics) rolls. The person for whom the coded message is intended can automatically read the message as clearly as if it were written in his native language.

BOONS/SPELLS (0 BP)
Purview
Potability

Dice Pool: None
Cost: 1 Legend
For Scions who lack the means to use Purify Water, the Potability Boon is a simple substitute. Potability allows the Scion to touch one source of water no larger than a bathtub and cause any liquid in it to become safe to drink. While various contaminants may remain, including living beings, the water will not be poisonous or disease-laden. It might be brown, it might have algae floating on top, and it might taste like dirt mixed with baking soda, but it’ll quench thirst and function for irrigation, if necessary.

The Potability Boon does not guarantee that water will remain in a pure state. If used on a body of water too large to cleanse, the Boon simply fails. It doesn’t allow the Scion to purify water in several steps, unless the Scion chooses to physically remove some of the water into a container and then make it drinkable. Water rendered potable can readily mix with other substances.

Water Control

Dice Pool: Dexterity + Craft
Cost: 1 Legend
For a number of actions equal to the successes on the activation roll, the Scion can exert limited physical control of any water that is touching her. She can remotely manipulate a hand-held object she can see in the water with her full dice pool, although she can take no other physical actions at the same time. She can stiffen the water beneath her feet in order to walk on its surface. She can even have the water push her along from all sides, allowing her to take a full Move action while swimming, rather than half. Alternatively, moving through the water thus could increase her Dodge DV by an amount equal to her Legend as long as she does nothing but dodge incoming attacks.

The Boon also allows such random tricks as having the Scion instantly dry off by flinging all water off her body or creating a water bridge so an aquatic creature can swim from one container to another.

This Boon works only on liquid water, and a Scion can affect five cubic yards of water at a time per dot of Legend he has. (If she’s walking on water, she can affect one 30’ x 15’ rectangle on the surface per dot of Legend she has. The affected area supports only her and anything she can carry unaided.) Her command is not such, however, that she can use water to restrain or inflict direct physical damage against an opponent with a liquid shape of her creation.

Changing States

Dice Pool: Dexterity + Craft
Cost: 1 Legend + 1 Willpower
Defying the laws of thermodynamics, the Scion can instantly change the state of a body of water just by touching it. With this Boon, she can take liquid water, steam, ice or fog and change any one into any of the other three. The amount of water she can affect is the same as per Water Control, and the water remains in its new state for a number of actions equal to the successes rolled to activate the Boon. Water under this effect is also subject to the Scion’s Water Control as long as the Scion maintains contact with some portion of it.

The Scion can now inflict damage against a single opponent with blasts of steam or with ice projectiles, using her regular traits. (The damage for a steam blast is always lethal environmental damage [Damage: 2L/action, Trauma: 3], but damage can be bashing or lethal for an ice projectile.) The character may also create a club, axe, knife or sword out of ice and use it as a normal weapon of that type. Water in an altered state doesn’t melt, freeze, boil or condense as it normally would in its current environment for the duration of the effect. As altered steam, it maintains a constant temperature of 220 degrees; as altered liquid water or altered fog, it stays at 70 degrees; as altered ice, it stays at 14 degrees. (That’s all Fahrenheit, by the way.) When the effect ends, the water instantly resumes its original state and temperature.

Uller's Stride
Dice Pool: None
Cost: 1 Legend
Like the god of skis who gives this boon its name, the she can speed her travel by gliding on a thin layer of snow. Hoarfrost coalesces into ice around her feet or her shoes, allowing her to skate over nearly any flat surface. As long as she can slide along the ground, she can move quickly and easily. Grassy fields, liquid water (or other substances), and pavement or concrete are all ideal surfaces for this sort of motion. She leaves a thin, wavering trail of ice that soon melts in warm surroundings.
As long as she stays on a reasonably flat (though not necessarily level) surface, she gains a five yard bonus to her Move and Dash actions. Uller’s Stride cannot take her up into the air, but she can skate over water. Tricks such as skating off the end of an inclined tree and landing on the lip of a nearby hillside count as stunts that apply the five-yard bonus to Jump actions. Players can use Uller’s Stride with many other stunts too, such as maneuvering a foe onto a not-yet-melted patch of ice so she slips for a moment, giving the water bender a bonus to attack.
Once activated, Uller’s Stride lasts for the rest of the scene unless she deactivates the power prematurely. She can walk or skate interchangeably, depending upon what seems useful at the moment. She never slips or falls from losing traction, though she can still be knocked down she can also trip over difficult terrain or crash into an obstacle if she’s clumsy.

Hrimthurssar's Touch

Dice Pool: None
Cost: 1 Willpower + 1 Legend
By calling upon the cold, the user suffuses her hands with deathly cold. When she touches water, a skin of ice freezes across it; when she caresses plants, they wither. The scion’s unarmed attacks inflict extra dice of bashing damage equal to half her Legend (rounded up), except against opponents immune to cold. Holding an easily chilled object, such as a cup or a metal blade, causes it to frost over. (A metal weapon affected by this Boon adds the above damage to a successful attack, but that damage is either bashing or lethal as appropriate to the weapon type.) A bottle of liquid the size of a typical soft drink will freeze through—likely bursting the container—with just a few seconds of contact. Through a special expenditure of an extra point of Legend, the Scion can instantly freeze a large quantity of liquid, equal to her Legend rating in cubic yards.

This Boon lasts for an entire scene after its activation, though the Scion can end it prematurely (to avoid injuring a companion by touch, for instance).

Assess Health

Dice Pool: None
Cost: None
The Scion can instantly, automatically assess the current medical condition of a single living patient in his presence. He can tell how many levels of damage the patient is suffering, as well as any physical addictions he suffers, any illnesses or diseases with which he is infected and any genetic defects that afflict him.

Blessing of Health/Curse of Frailty

Dice Pool: Stamina + Medicine
Cost: 1 Legend
The Boon can take away a patient’s reproductive capabilities or restore them, provided the patient already has all the necessary organs. This effect lasts for one year per success on the activation roll.

Used on a pregnant patient, the Boon can make her unborn child come into the World strong and healthy or sickly and deformed. The Boon can cure or create any of the following conditions: a physical deformity, a life-threatening birth defect, a chemical dependency, an illness contracted from the mother, physical damage suffered in utero or a non-specified immune system effect (representing a ±2 dice modifier in rolls to resist illness). Each separate condition increases the difficulty of the roll by one. A Scion can also use this Boon on an infant within the first 24 hours after its birth.

Heal/Infect

Dice Pool: Stamina + Medicine
Cost: 1 Legend or 1 Willpower
The Scion can repair a patient’s injuries or inflict harm directly. On one hand, he can heal as many health levels of bashing damage as his player gets successes on a (Stamina + Medicine) roll. Doing so costs one Legend. Alternatively, he can downgrade a number of health levels equal to successes on the roll from lethal to bashing damage. Doing so costs one Willpower.

On the other hand, he can inflict as many health levels of bashing damage as his player gets successes on the (Stamina + Medicine) roll. Doing so also costs one Legend. Alternatively, he can upgrade a number of health levels equal to successes on the roll from bashing to lethal damage. Doing so costs one Willpower.

The Scion can use this Boon on the same person only once per day. He can use it on as many different people in the same day as he can afford to spend the points.

Antidote (Self training to improve it.)

Dice Pool: Intelligence + Medicine
Cost: 1 Legend

A quick purging of the subject’s system forces poisons and diseases away. Any mundane toxin or common disease instantly disappears from the subject, although the leftover damage, crippling, scarring or similar symptoms remain unless cured with other powers. Magical diseases, titanspawn venoms and the poisons inflicted by powerful Relics might be purged.

The player must score more successes on the activation roll than the original poisoner inflicted. For poisons or diseases that weren’t created via a power with an activation roll, the player must roll more successes than the poison’s Toxicity.
