Sydney Blake

THE BASICS

Name: Sydney Blake

Nickname: Syd

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION

Gender: Female

Age: 26

Hair: brunette

Eyes: blue

Distinguishing Marks:  None

General Appearance: Sydney is of medium height with short blond hair and pale blue eyes. Her complexion reveals that she doesn’t get outdoors much, and her former Marine boyfriend motivated her to eat well and work out regularly. Her complexion is pale and she doesn’t dress up unless she has to, preferring loose fitting clothes and comfortable shoes.

HISTORY
Personality: Sydney is friendly, and outgoing, and generally doesn’t like spending time alone. She values positive relationships, and often puts the needs of others over her own. Socially, a simple soul, Sydney is the sort that cannot, or does not bother to mask her emotions very well. What you see is what you get, and her naturally calm persona tends to blend in with every facet of her life. She feels a strong sense of responsibility, but can also get caught up in traditional values, and her own need for security.  Sydney had a very religious upbringing, but it is something she has drifted from since college though she does feel the occasional pang of guilt for it.

Sexual Preferences:

Employment (Employed/Unemployed/Student etc.): Cellist with the local symphony and part time music teacher

About Your character: Sydney was born an only child to a couple of working class Catholics who declared her a miracle. She grew up in the city largely sheltered from social activities by her over protective parents and forced to study music from a young age to keep her mind busy and her hands from being idle. Her parents paid what the scholarships wouldn’t for her college tuition while she lived at home and practiced for six hours a day in lieu of any social activity outside the church. She excelled academically, and was accepted by the symphony after graduation. Her parents were a little disappointed as they had promised her to the church, but Sydney could not see herself living a life of austerity, and soon disappointed them again when she met Bill, a marine returning from active duty overseas.

Sydney met Bill at a patriotic fundraiser put on by the guild members, and the two seemed to hit it off immediately. Bill was a master welder who had served a tour in the marines. He was everything she had ever wanted, and so when he asked her for her hand by their third date, she gleefully accepted. They moved in together, and everything seemed perfect when Bill accepted the job as an admin at a local college teaching and certifying welders.

And then that slight nagging pain in her left wrist was diagnosed as the beginning of carpel tunnel, and Sydney had to take the season off on Doctor’s orders. Bill accidentally knocked over her cello by the time she had been cleared to practice again, and the ensuing time it took to repair the neck caused her to have too little time to prepare to enter the symphony again when the season started. Bill was apologetic, and reassuring. He took her on a cruise to get over the disappointment, but the missed chance meant she had to be replaced and would only be called up as an alternate.

Bill seemed happy with the new arrangement of things, and time passed on. Sydney missed her opportunity to return to playing for one reason or another after that, and finally gave up playing anywhere other than weddings and private functions. She took a job as a waitress at a breakfast diner to make a little money. Time wasn’t friendly to her relationship. Bill seemed to become distant, no longer feeling any need to be romantic even though no date had ever been set for the wedding. Sydney gave up complaining for being made to feel that she was ungrateful.

A student of Bill’s began to frequent the diner Sydney worked at first becoming friends with the former cellist and then growing closer. Things culminated when Sydney agreed to a night on the town with her new friend fully expecting things would progress between them. When the night was over, the two agreed to go their separate ways as neither of them wanted to destroy Sydney’s relationship or betray Bill.  Of course someone had seen them together, and word began to spread. Sydney’s colleagues at the symphony found out, and soon found her more interesting and compelling. Except for her parents, everyone seemed to take the news well, and the mousy boring girl became far more intriguing with just a label. When Bill heard the rumors it inspired him to confess that he too was gay and had been having an extra marital affair with Sydney’s stand partner since they had met. Sydney was not unhappy with Bill’s confession, and remains on good terms with him and her stand partner. Now with only her playing wages, Sydney needs to find a new place and will have to settle for room mates for the sake of her budget.
