Code Name: Roo
Age: 34
Affiliation: X-Men

Training: Tactical, EOD, EMT, several forms of martial arts.. and over 15 years of experience putting those skills to use.
Powers: Healing Factor, Super Strength

Physical Description: Kelly is a far cry from the stocky blue-eyed blonde with freckles and a cocky smile that joined the NYPD in her late teens. Now she is tall at 6'4 and unhealthily pale, with short, messy black hair that rarely sees a brush and her eyes are a predatory amber. The cocky smile is still there of course, but the lessons the last ten years have taught her mean that it rarely graces her lips. She has a runner's physique but a chest that makes custom fitted body armour a necessity; Every one of these changes brought about through the physical trauma of a building that fell on a tom boy SWAT officer and gave birth to Morticia Adam's younger MMA-fighting sister. Kelly has had years to adapt to these physical changes, however, and still moves like a professional.

Kelly is Currently Wearing: White tank-top, denim shorts and tan Bates M9 boots.

Personality: Kelly is a woman with a lot of regrets and now she is on an impossible mission in the pursuit of redemption. To that end, while she can privately enjoy the same things she always used to enjoy, Kelly feels guilty for doing so and is now very goal orientated. Focus on the next job. Prepare for it as much as possible. Give it 110% and then get ready for the next. While imprisonment has taught her patience, she isn't one for wasting time and this can make her seem humourless.. but she both dependable and a team player.

Background: Kelly grew up in Brooklyn, the only child of a third generation cop family and was always destined to follow the footsteps of her father. She spent several eventful years as a patrol officer but her physical prowess and thirst for action soon saw her transfer to an NYPD SWAT team, much to her mother's distress. This extended family would become a pattern for Kelly, and when her unnatural strength revealed itself and her life fell apart around her, she bounced from one 'family' to another, always assuming the role of protector. She counted herself amongst the X-Men for a while, the X-Men exiles, Freedom Force and even - very briefly - the Avengers. What distinguishes her career as a 'hero' however are the bloody events that happened in between.

Kelly had long feared that her powers were 'not right' and they continued to manifest in grotesque ways just as she herself continued to change with them. Fear of what those changes meant made it easy for Satana - an associate of the X-Men exiles - to provoke her into doing something foolish. Kelly chased after a quarry she could not hope to beat, the vampire Ludmilla, and was tortured past the point of sanity. By the time Kelly was rescued, she has committed dozens of terrible acts for the amusement of her captor and as she struggled to come to terms with what had happened under the care of her friends Kim and Keelie - the self-exiled X-Men - the source of her regenerative powers finally matured.

With help from Julia Carpenter (the leader of the Freedom Force at the time) Kelly learned that she and hundreds of other mutant children had been treated with N'Garai DNA as part of a government experiment and while the project had been considered a failure, the long term effects had never really been understood. As the weeks went by and Kelly searched in vain for answers that would 'cure' her, she gradually fell to the biological imperative woven into her genes.

For the sake of her friends, Kelly left the safety of Kim's bookstore and took up the offer of joining Freedom Force, giving her the resources for one final attempt to find a cure.. and when it failed, easy access to the prey she was compelled to find. It was during this time Ludmilla caught up with her again and after murdering the last person with the resources to help her, the vampire took Kelly away again, this time for good. Now that the bond between them was almost unbreakable, Kelly wilfully committed countless atrocities in the vampires name and in turn, Ludmilla furnished her with weapons and training to make her a more deadly foe; In this role, she cultivated many villainous contacts yet retained enough sense to avoid killing her former friends whenever they crossed paths. However, a final confrontation was inevitable. Spurred on by the murder of Keelie, Kelly sought out Kim to return the body of their mutual friend in an attempt to end the game of cat and mouse that was distracting her from serving Ludmilla. In an apartment building just off Central Park, Kelly's murderous past finally caught up with her and she was ultimately defeated.

At great cost to her friend Kim, Kelly's sanity was restored and the corruption wrought by the N'Garai DNA was stripped away.. but there was barely enough left of Kelly to fill a paper bag and she died at the Arcanum.

Much to everyone's surprise - not least her own - Kelly dug herself out of a grave several weeks later and found that she was still at Kim's sanctum. Hidden away from the world, Kelly struggled for months to fully recuperate and find some way to come to terms with the things she had done. As a former police officer Kelly believed herself to posses a strong sense of justice but now she simply could not reconcile her past with her judgement. Was justice best served by a final death? A lifetime of imprisonment? Or did she still have something more to offer? Under the guidance of those she had tried to kill just months before, Kelly finally decided to surrender to SHIELD and leave her fate to them. Unknowingly she did so at a time when the Avengers were at a low point of their own and her desire to find some way to make amends was believed by at least one person at the agency and she was provisionally drafted in to bolster their numbers under the watchful eye of Captain America and her sponsor, Agent Morse.

Her time in the Avengers was short lived, however, and when the group was disbanded Kelly willingly - though not happily - returned herself to SHIELD custody and has remained there ever since.

Hobbies: Working on her car, working out, street racing.
Likes: Strawberry milkshakes, jogging on the beach, cars, drinking.
Dislikes: Karaoke, magic, vampires, drinking.
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual, with a but. A hot but! Her time with Ludmilla and the many twisted things they did together means she can hardly claim to be heterosexual, but those experiences are something she is keen to file under P for Past.
Relationship With Family: None to speak of. As a former NYPD police officer she was proudly following in her father's footsteps until the day she confirmed her fears that she was a mutant. Officially she died that day, and her parents have never had a reason to believe otherwise. Her father died in the five years she was imprisoned and she was privately glad that her old man never learned the truth about his daughter before he passed.
With Friends: In one word - grateful. Kelly's friends did their best to help her when she was under the influence of Ludmilla and many stuck by her even after the terrible things she did, though not all have lived to see her recovery. Now Kelly considers herself extremely lucky to have any friends left at all, and would do anything for them.

Notes: Kelly amassed considerable wealth and a trunk full of gadgets while under Ludmilla's influence, with safe houses and weapons caches secreted in every corner of the globe. She even had a stolen UAV Predator at her disposal, referenced in her SHIELD file as "Mr Grimm". However, in the interests of full disclosure, the location of every safe house and bank account was surrendered to SHIELD and emptied. Stolen property was returned and most of her gadgets have been locked away. Only her Kukri, forged from the Atlantean blade stolen from Xein, remain out of SHIELDs reach.
