X-men: Omega Remnants

This game is a direct continuation (with some tweaking here and there) of an old game that ran for 5+ years before it sadly died.

In the middle of ever growing and escalating conflict between humans and mutants, a super-weapon was detonated in Earth's orbit sending shockwaves rippling all over the planet that permanently stripped most mutants of their abilities and even affected some heroes with powers of a different nature. The blast was also the signal for an alien invasion force to start the attack on the planet.

Mutant teams like the X-Men, Hellions, and X-Factor among others all suffered heavy losses but without time to tend to their wounds and help their members those who were unaffected by the weapon rallied together with S.W.O.R.D. and S.H.I.E.L.D. to stop the invasion.

When the dust settled the heroes found that being subjected to near-genocide and yet still being instrumental defending the Earth had a way of changing the opinions of several nations in their favor. At the same time, while the alien threat behind the invasion was kept a secret the public still knew something dangerous had happened and who had been involved in stopping it.

Suddenly mutants were no longer feared or hated quite as much...

... but there were also drastically fewer mutants for the world to worry about.

Mutant births stopped almost overnight and soon it became clear that with the new friendly attitude towards their people and the lack of a new generation to train the X-Men were not needed anymore so the team was disbanded. Members were their separate ways to carry on with, or in some cases, rebuild their previous lives and all the assets and technologies were re-acquired by Xavier's X-Corporation, an NGO created by the X-Men's founder with the same mission, to defend mutants rights.

Five years have passed since then and new mutants are starting to manifest again.

So far it is only a few occurrences here and there, nothing that X-Corp can't handle but everyone knows it's only a matter of time until mutant population starts to surge again and this time the world nations want to be ready for it.

S.H.I.E.L.D. director Maria Hill and Charles Xavier himself convinced the UN Security Council to take a radical new approach by passing a resolution to repurpose an abandoned research base on an island off the coast of the United States and handed over ownership of the base as well as the island itself to the X-Corporation. It is now under the protection of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the United Nations and it is considered an independent country.

It is a school for newly manifested mutants to learn about their abilities. A safe haven for anyone, mutant or human, that needs one. Home and base of operations for the new incarnation of X-Men. And, hopefully in time, proof that Xavier's dream is not impossible.

To some, it is the precursor to a concentration camp. Lock all the mutants there while armed forces watch them for the slightest hint of trouble.

To others, it is the chance to build something new and show the world that mutants and humans can live together in harmony helping each other.
