Staff Sergeant Lawrence North was born in Charity Hospital in New Orleans Louisiana on October 13 1980. His parents were a lower middle income family and his childhood while not extravagant left little in the way of needs. He was always an active boy but not overly social. He did however have a small group of friends that were more like family. In his early teens he had an obsession with anything fast and began working in his off time doing odd jobs to save money for a car. When he was 14 he bought his first car. A 1977 chevy nova. He got into his fair share of trouble as a teen but never anything major. Speeding tickets and the occasional minor possession of alcoholic beverages. (It WAS New Orleans after all!) In high school he was a member of the JROTC program and was on both the color guard and drill team. He enlisted in the USMC when he was only 17 on a deferred enlistment and immediately after graduation he went off to boot camp along with most of his friends from school. After boot camp and a year long deployment to Bulgaria he returned stateside to take his Force Recon Training.
After his Force Recon training he was shipped off to Israel for joint military amphibious exercises and war games. It was during these exercises that the attack on the World Trade Center took place. His battalion was immediately recalled and put on high alert. Almost immediately he was redeployed to Kandahar Afghanistan. His battalion was deployed for two back to back tours before finally coming home. After nearly two years of continuous combat life back home seemed nearly as alien to him as combat in muslim controlled mountain caves once had. He realized that his place in the world was forever changed. He was a combat soldier now. That was his life. He requested a transfer and redeployment and went back to afghanistan. He stayed there another 4 years and avoided having to return stateside by requesting transfers to other units in the rotation 90 days before his current unit rotated home.
In 2008 when Ssgt Norths enlistment was due to be renewed he was approached by a representative from Black Line Security about accepting a position as a private security operator. With the promise of $120k a year on the table plus hazard and combat pay North allowed his enlistment to lapse and accepted his DD214.  His first year was served as consulate security at the US consulate in Istanbul Turkey.  At the request of his employer he accepted a security assignment in the USA at a Homeland Security blacksite in northern Alabama near Redstone Nuclear Arsenal. He had no idea what took place inside the facility only that the only personnel with clearance were WELL above his pay grade.
When the outbreak began he was on duty at the main security office at the blacksite. First one then two then several came to the gates. They steadily poured into the perimeter. He ordered his team to detain and escort them off the premises not knowing what they were facing. Several of his men were attacked and bitten. He ordered his men to fire warning shots to deter the crowd but it only drew more. Finally giving the word to fire on the crowds of people that were assaulting the site he realized that something was terribly wrong.
He gave his team the order to fall back and regroup but it was too late. Only North and two of his team made it into the relative safety of the Humvee. After consulting his comrades they decided to head towards the main Black Line Security headquarters located outside of Denver. With no response from BLS either by radio satcom or telephone they pressed on. Somewhere outside Little Rock Arkansas Dubroc turned and attacked Avery, tearing out half of Avery's throat in the process. In the ensuing struggle with both Dubroc and Avery the Humvee collided with a motorcycle left crashed in the street and broke a steering arm. After taking what little he could from the Humvee North began hiking towards Little Rock. The closer he came to the city the more infected he encountered. He then made a tactical decision to avoid cities and took less populated roads as he continued towards BLS headquarters.
