Personality description: Deep down, Avery is a gentle soul, very driven and fun to be around. Right now, however, Avery has a personality that shows she has seen some bad things. Avery inherently distrusts those around her, and although she may often act as if she trusts others, it is usually only to better her own situation. Avery isn't particularly selfish: far from it, but she's been burned so many times since the pandemic started that she no longer has the option to leave things up to chance. She has a hard view on the world now, and it shows.

Character History:
Avery has always had a fairly ordinary childhood. She was of average intelligence, but she tried hard and put her effort into things which tended to make her succeed more often than not. Part of the problem was that she was so interested in doing so many different things that she never really found her 'groove' in anything in particular, so instead she did as many things as possible! She was always naturally very beautiful, taking after her mother, so her popularity was high, and her social maturity was just as high because of that. She learned at an early age that protecting herself was a must, and her parents enforced that as well, teaching her how to interact with others intelligently.

Over time, Avery found that she was quite talented at a multitude of sports and even a few martial arts. Training with her father in the art of Judo, she entered a few tournaments, won 4 of them in subsequent years, and then placed second in her 5th year competing. At this point she started thinking about a more serious career, and the hyper-focus on competing fell away as she started to live a 'normal' life.

Heading to Florida with her parents for a vacation, Avery found herself having a blast in St. Petersburg, enjoying the beaches and neighborhood with her best friend Sean. He was staying in an air bnb a few blocks from her hotel, and visited often to have a blast playing beach volleyball, or going snorkeling. Once the pandemic hit, Avery was very much surprised, as were both of her parents. Her father died in the first three days, being bitten and subsequently shot by somebody who had been protecting them only moments before. When Avery and her mother tried to fight back, the 'protector' left them alone in their hotel room, and vanished.

Over the next few days, Avery and her mother moved room to room, staying as hidden as possible and surviving off of scraps they could find. One afternoon, her mother (dehydrated beyond belief) walked out into the hotel hallway without thinking things through, and was set upon by half a dozen of the undead, or whatever they could be called. They ripped her apart, and Avery only managed to escape by hanging herself out a window on knotted bedsheets for several hours. Climbing back in when the sounds dissipated, she was mentally distraught, and alone.

Avery's best friend, and closest ally, Sean Mendelson, was a strong young man. While Avery was only 20 years old, Sean was 24 and had his whole career and life ahead of him. He'd always been very supportive of her, and helped her train for sports whenever she needed. He was active military, and although he was back from deployment (and enjoying a vacation in Florida) he was quite the active soldier, often deploying as much as the military would allow him to. Avery had never really spoken with him deeply on his career, as she wanted to give him his space, and yet she was always curious. She hadn't seen Sean since the pandemic has started, but she set out to search for him, using his last air bnb address for her search while she dealt with the horrible behavior of tourists and others during the pandemic.
