He earns his bread by working for the local Undertaker, by digging graves and helping make coffins. When not at work or in his hut, he might stop by at the local watering hole. His only social activity is being a member of the Militia.

Karloff once had a pretty wife and more beautiful daughter.. His wife was ravished by a soldier of the local Lord, and perished from her injuries soon after. While the soldier was hanged for the deed, Karloff was struck in the face by an Overseer of Lord Strad for not showing “proper” deference. His face bore the scars of the Cat O’ Nine that did the deed. No one knew what became of the daughter. But in Barovia, it never paid to ask questions.
