Godwyn

Group: English/Saxon

Name: Godwyn

Age: 21

Occupation: Diplomat

Sexuality: Heterosexual

Physical Description: Godwyn stands tall but lean at the later end of his teenage years, with long limbs and a pale complexion. He overall impression lends itself to somebody who has not done a lot of physical activity, although he does look like he has been well fed.

Lightly freckled, with golden blond hair cropped close and gray eyes, he seems bright and observant, quiet and reserved. He unusually stays somewhat clean shaven or at the very least with a closely trimmed thin beard.

Notable are his long fingers, often ink stained beneath the nails.

Personality: Godwyn is normally quiet and reserved, prone to a soft smile and cautious observation. His voice is smooth and melodic, well practiced with an interesting accent formed by the exposure to the myriad languages he has learned over the course of his upbringing.

Curious and thoughtful, he is prone to asking a lot of questions, and enjoys deep discussion and the retelling of stories.

Biography: Godwyn is a legitimate member of the ruling family, albeit comfortably removed from a patrimonial claim to the crown as a nephew to the Queen.

His Father, Edwin, served for many years in Court as an adviser of foreign affairs and as a messenger and diplomat when appropriate. Although not Landed, they lived a comfortable existence in a Manor home for most of Godwyn's childhood. His mother, Brea, was far more concerned with their temporal status and comforts, and was responsible for managing the affairs of the home for most of Godwyn's childhood. A far more practical individual than his somewhat idealistic father.

Edwin, always wary of court politics and not wanting his son to fall victim to the petty disputes and decadence common among the children of the nobility, Godwyn was sent a an Irish monastery, Antrim Monastery, for over a decade where he was entrusted to the care of an older Abbot and friend of the family.

Not only literate, Godwyn learned Latin and Greek to supplement his native English, along with the French (Norman) language for matters of court, and Norse in the neighboring market town where much of the Monasteries supplies, including paper and ink were imported. A study of historical works to supplement this education rivaled what could be found in great cities of the east.

Upon his return to Court at the age of 16, Godwyn fell into the orbit of his cousin Olis, who was largely dismissive of Godwyn's education, but saw an invaluable ally in one of the few natives who was fluent in the Norse tongue. He provided Godwyn with the means to further his career, included arms, armor and horses, although his tutelage in these matters was brief by most standards.

Now fully invested in the affairs of the Kingdom, Godwyn finds himself at the crossroads of history and set between factions baying for blood and spoils, in a world that has largely forgotten the lessons of the past.
