Hrald

Group: Norse

Name: Hrald the Acolyte

Age: 21

Occupation: Volva's acolyte

Sexuality: Demisexual

Physical Description: Hrald isn't a terribly imposing figure. He is neither tall or broad, maybe 5'10 if anyone cared to ask. He stands straight though and a life of servitude has made his lean frame strong and competent. With brown hair and intelligent brown eyes, a nose perhaps a little too long and wide mouth, Hrald has a sort of potential about him. Perhaps if he'd been able to manage his own care he'd have been attractive but the former thrall had little input into his appearance. As it is, he's got a few scars from accidents and punishments over the years.

Personality: Hrald is quite dignified for a thrall. As an acolyte, he is very uncertain of himself and place in the world now. He prefers to remain quiet and unassuming, and as such allows him to observe and learn the secrets of those around him. Whether he uses what he knows is anyone's guess but he has a good heart and means well. He is easily flustered and subject to stammering when nervous or his sensibilities are rattled. He is usually calm although not the bravest man in the room. Loyal to a fault, he is incredibly protective of the people he willingly serves.

Biography: Hrald was the son of a baker and candlemaker, somewhere in the middle of a hoard of siblings. His earliest memories are of the heat of the ovens, how his mother always smelled like sweet wax and his father like bread, the bustle of the fjord's trading port and how his eldest sisters flirted with the blacksmith's son. Jarl Grimnir's forces raided the port and surrounding village with the sole purpose of taking it over. There wasn't much of a fight as they were all tradesmen and merchants. Very few of them were warriors. The wealthier and more valuable folk tithed themselves to the Jarl and the rest were enslaved as payment. For Hrald and his family, their days as free-folk were over. He wasn't sure what became of them but he was taken into the Jarl's home himself and put to work in the kitchens. Grimnir's hall was hard work but they were good to the thralls and they ate well. When Jarl Yrrling sent his clan to Grimnir, he was impressed and horrified by the state they were in. Frightened, lost, and angry he found they were a broken people but still proud. They brought incredible wealth to the clan. When Erland was sent to land, Hrald was in the first wave of people sent to serve the young Jarl and build their holdings across the seas.

He came into the Volva's service after boldly petitioning Jarl Joust Ulfsson upon his takeover following Erland's passing. He is currently baffled at this change in station and what is in store in the service of the madwoman.
