In the School Halls

Zoey shows up and her hair is DRY.

Rory looked at Zoe for a moment confused, something was off but he couldn't tell what. "Zoey" He shook his head. Then focused on her hair, finally noticing that it was dry. "Wait, you haven't been swimming!!!" The teen seemed shocked. "What's going on?"

"Huh?"  Zoey had been lost in her own thoughts since she left the pool, and was caught off guard by Rorys remark.  "I got a quick dip but no diving.  Rory, we really need to talk.  But not here, it's oddly not safe."

She looked to Hal and gave him a weak smile, "Hey Hal."

Rory gave a nod. "That sounds sensible. We could try one of the empty classrooms."

He turned around when Zoey greeted Hal. "Hi."

She shook her head, "No, we cant ditch classes," and glanced at the security guard in the hall. "Meet me after last period here.  We'll talk on the way to my place.  I am about out of my head."

Zoey fidgeted from one foot to the other nervously, and lowered her voice to a whisper, "Be careful what you say Rory.  It's weirder than you realize."

Rory whispered back. "What's going on? If it's dangerous, I need to know."

Zoey stepped close enough that her lips were barely grazing his ear, "They know about, well us.  Atlanteans, aliens.  We're freaks and unwanted.  It's like we're illegal or something.  Just go along with whatever is said or done here."  She looked at Rory then, a look of fear clear in her eyes.

Hal walked up, "Hey what's up short stuff."  a decidedly Allura like statement.

Hal walked over, "How are you two doing ?"

Rory gave his response. "OK"

He then stood back and saw the fear in Zoey's eyes. "Hey don't worry. I am sure that you will do fine on the test, it's easier than you think. I'll help you study if it comes to that."

Hopefully Zoey would understand his coded message...

"We're fine thanks. How are you doing?"

"Im not short.  Im  a people McNugget."  Zoey smiled with a light shrug without missing a beat.

"Doing okay.  Long day I guess.  How about you?"

She looked back to Rory, "Thanks, Im going to need the help."

Hal smiled, "Doing fine, hope I can hang out with my new friends. We doing anything after school ?"

"I've got plans with a couple of swimmates tonight, and Sam is supposed to come over too.  Im free until then."

Hal, "Hmm well alright, I guess I will just hang with my main squeeze Allura then."

"Main squeeze?  Why don't we hang out tomorrow?  Hopefully things wont be as weird tomorrow."

Rory let Zoey talk, waiting to see Hal's reaction at her words.

Hal, "Mmmm alright sounds good, catch you later." Hal moved off blending in with the other students.

Rory seemed thoughtful, eventually shaking his head. "We had better get to class."

Zoey hooked her arm with Rory's and leaned her head on his shoulder as they walked.  "Rory, I am actually a little scared here.  We'll figure it out later."

Rory walked with Zoey. He said what he could to reassure his friend. "We'll sort it out. We always do."
