"My dad knows about me, right?  Perry?  What happens if people find out about us?"

Rory listened in silence for a moment. "Let's say we have forgotten. Could you give us a short recap of the last 10 years?"

The two look at each other, "We don't know if your dad knows, and if they find out about us it's lab table city for us. So please don't blow it."  The two look suspiciously at Rory, "and why are you here ?"

"Rory's my best friend.  He knows everything about me.  If it's so dangerous for us to be on the surface, then why stay?"

Rory gave a nod. "Zoey is my best friend." He was silent for a moment.

Tanya tears up, "We have no choice were hybrids the change hasn't happened to us yet, so we have to stay on the surface. We swim as well as you but can't go to the deep cities. You know that right ?"

They both look at Zoey and Rory, "The real question is why do you stay ? You can swim deep and stay below, you must be a spy right to watch the land people ?"

Rory looked at them for a moment as he learned that they were deep ones. "Can't you find an island and build a community somewhere? Wouldn't it be safer?"

He took a deep breath and looked at Zoey. "The truth is, we can't remember any of this. We can't remember a war between humans and the people who live under the seas."

She shakes her head, "Im sorry Tanya.  I didn't know."

"My Atlantean parents sacrificed themselves to save both the seas and the surface when I was barely three I think.  Perry adopted me.  I stay because my family is here.  The people I love are here on the surface. I don't even know how to get to Atlantis."

Timothy, "They keep alert for islands and most coastal towns. Arkham seems for some reason below the radar."

Tanya, "Probably because of the witches."

Tanya looked over and nodded, "Yes we love our human parents too, I guess I can understand that."

"Witches?  What witches are you talking about?"  She glanced at Rory a moment then back to the hybrid teens.

Timothy shrugs, "Rumor has it Arkham still has witches, powerful ones and that they help keep people like us safe."

Tanya, "I have never met one, but Timothy is right its been rumor for years and we are safer here then most places.  Those guardians would kill us in a heartbeat most other places."

Zoey smiled for the first time all afternoon, "Well if I meet one, I'll make sure to thank them for keeping us safe.  But still, I like the way things were before.  I could sit comfortably with Sam and Perry knowing about me, my friends too.  Now, I don't know who to trust."

Rory gave a nod after the explanation.

He looked at Zoey. "This has to be some kind of alternate reality. It would explain the paranoia about witches and everyone else. You know, I don't like this place either it feels like a living in '1984'. I am half expecting the TV to start speaking to us and asking us to pledge our allegiance to whatever dictator lives in this place."

Timothy said, "Nobody, at least not any humans. He might be your friend but what if they interrogate him. You need to protect yourself and not let people know."

"How did the surface find out about us?  What happened?"

Zoey looked at Rory and nodded, "I wouldn't be entirely surprised if this was an alternate reality.  But how do we get back to ours?"

Tanya says, "It happened back in World War two, Some of your people and ours greedy for power sided with Hitler. They promised to win war on the seas. Yet both our people tried to stop them to keep us hidden and civil war broke out. They knew something was happening then but weren't sure. Years later an American sub found an underwater city and nuked it. Not sure if it was one of yours or ours. Since then things got worse till we allied and stood strong against aggression by the surface."

Timothy gets up, "Come on Tanya, we should get going."

Tanya nodded, "Yes don't want to miss curfew."

"Thanks for stopping in guys.  You helped clear up some confusion. Be careful getting home."

Rory listened to the explanation, slightly perplexed. He also waived goodbye. "Yeah, be careful."

As the others left, he turned to Zoey. "That was weird, the nazis were the very definition of xenophobia. A nation lead astray by fear and stupidity. I don't see any sane sea person allying themselves with such beings. Even if they had won, the sea people would have been  enslaves... If they weren't wiped out first. It doesn't really make sense."

He seemed almost defensive for a few moments as Zoey mentioned getting back. "I don't think that it was me this time. I mean I have been playing around with that Alien device but it wasn't even powered."

The teen changed the subject, answering Zoey's question. "It depends. If this was a technological thing, then we need to find the device that brought us here. If it was magic, we need a witch to reverse it. I would suggest our normal expert but she was acting really weirdly this morning. She doesn't seem to be the same person."

There was a moment of thoughtfulness. "Maybe we could speak to my dad, he knows more about this stuff than me. Though we should be careful in case he is an alternate."

Zoey closed the door behind the others and turned to Rory. "I didn't mean that I thought it was you.  I hadn't actually thought about how we got here yet.  I was thinking about your dad too, but what if he's a Guardian in this reality?  One of the fanatic Guardians?"

"If Susan is still a witch here too, she may be our only chance. Weird or not.  And what about Allura?  Suze was teaching her a thing or two."

Rory gave a nod. "Yeah, he could be. We should try to gauge people's attitudes, she what they think about witches, that should give us a clue on who we can trust."

The teen was thoughtful. "I think that Susan might be a witch, she seemed to be defending them in class. After that, she seemed terrified, almost as if she feared being hunted down and burned on the stake."

"You do know she was a witch in our reality.  Right?  I mean, it does sound plausible that she is still here too.  At least we know we can trust each other."

Rory gave Zoey a nod. "She could be, though we should be careful not to scare her away when we bring the idea up. We should probably do it somewhere outside of school. I should probably leave, this curfew thing seems serious."

Rory was about to leave when something came to mind. "I was thinking, before I leave, we should probably come up with a password and a danger word. The first in case we run into alternates though I haven't seen them around so they probably swapped bodies with us. The second in case, something is wrong at school or somewhere else with people around. Any ideas?"

"That's a good idea.  Um, let me think about it tonight and we can get together before school tomorrow.  Be careful Rory.  Let me know when you get home, Im a bit freaked out about everything."

After Rory leaves, Zoey will call Sam for some comfort.

Rory seemed to be about to press the issue but then shrugged. "Sure, tomorrow should be fine. Don't worry, I will give you a call. Keep safe Zoey."
