Re: Delith: A maze

In reply to Trysk (msg # 227):

The trap is fairly simple, however the mechanism is extremely delicate.  There appear to be little tabs holding the piece in.  Just beneath 1 of the 4 is a very thin wire, which will probably break as the piece is removed. The wire appears to run into the door; however you cannot see any mechanical mechanism.  Perhaps magical trap in nature triggered by the breaking wire?

There will be a -10% chance to disarm based on the delicateness needed.

Re: Delith: A maze

In reply to Ron, The DM (msg # 229):

Trysk looks to the others and snorts, "You think we could get that golem to walk by here and set off the trap?"

Sighing, Trysk continues, "The trap looks difficult and I have no idea what happens when the wire is tripped.  Maybe you guys should back up..."

Re: Delith: A maze

In reply to Trysk (msg # 230):

No one seems to step back.  Trysk goes forth with his work.  He takes his time with the delicate workings.  Several minutes go by and Trysk hesitates a few times, but after 5 minutes he is able to remove the first piece of the puzzle with the wire remaining intact.  The next piece can be rotated into place so it can be removed.

Besides some breathing, no other noises are heard.

Re: Delith: A maze

Aztar, although not a rogue, has always been fascinated by locks and stand silently  near Trysk and watches curiously seeing if there might be anything he can do toe help.  As the first piece is removed, the alchemist takes a deep breath realizing he'd hardly been breathing while watching.

'Is the first piece the most dangerous?'

Trysk shakes his head, "Not necessarily.  I've seen traps where the first trigger is so easy that it lulls you into complacency."

Re: Delith: A maze

In reply to Trysk (msg # 237):

Trysk looks at the mechanism.  Appears the next rotations need to be half on the horizontal axis and half on the vertical.  By the positioning it looks like the second piece will be harder.

Trysk sighs, "Anyone have an anti-magic shell handy?  This one is going to be tricky..."

Trysk begins to figure out the best way to rotate the piece into position.

He concentrates for a few moments.

Re: Delith: A maze

In reply to Trysk (msg # 240):

Trysk determines the best path to do the rotations.  He does so without triggering anything.  The second piece is now in a position that it can be removed; but this is where it gets tricky.  There are two clips holding the piece in but they are also spring loaded, if the tension on the spring clip is released too quickly it will probably set off the trap.

Continue disarming the trap?

OOC - Sorry, missed this post.

BIC - Trysk responds, "I just need to rotate this piece into place without releasing the tension on the springs too quickly."

In reply to Trysk (msg # 245):

The piece moves into place and can now be removed by releasing the tension on the 2 clips.  This is the tricky part.

Tryst takes another breath, "Here goes nothing."

Tryst then attempts to slowly release the tension on the springs slowly and equally.

Re: Delith: A maze

In reply to Trysk (msg # 247):

Trysk begins working on the second piece.  It seems like hours as he works the piece out from the clips.  A little slip causes one side to pop out before he was expecting it, he freezes and holds his breath and is able to maintain enough pressure to stop the other side from popping out and setting off the trap.  After a few seconds he continues and is able to remove the second piece.

One more piece to go and it is 180 degrees from the front, almost fully concealed.

Everyone relaxes a bit briefly and then you begin to notice a noise, sort of wood on wood as if someone was quickly opening and closing a door.

Aztar also tries to discern the direction of the noise and checks with Silver to see if he is able to determine anything about it.
