Re: Episode 8-5: The Shadow of Undeath

Randolph unleashes a burst of fire from his Gatling pistol, feeling a surge of satisfaction at hearing his rounds thunk-thunk against the thing and hoping they have some effect.

Gabby snarls as the thing shoots at them. "Goddamnit!" he says, raising his shotgun and gazing through the iron sights. Danny would be after him for the blasphemy late, he supposed, but right now he was heartily sick of mad science wrecking things.

Re: Episode 8-5: The Shadow of Undeath

The loud discharge of Randolph Darling's gatling ripped into the air, cracking into the metallic construct. The reporter's aim was deadly, and he scored three hits on the thing.  Shifting its facing slightly, the construct pointed its arm at the reporter, the gun-arm reporting back three shots at him. It's aim was nowhere nearly as deadly, two bullets not connecting with any target, but one did bite into Darling's right arm.

Randolph ignores the pluck of bullets at his right sleeve to fire off another burst at the thing, but his aim is somewhat affected by becoming the thing's target of choice. There is a slight tremor to his voice as he says, "We might want to withdraw, Miss Hawthorne."

"It is my thought that Iron Bear sees like a man - if you would go low from its vision and away from each other, it would perhaps be well," Sky Dog advised, standing straight as bullets whined around, only frowning.

The shaman cupped his wrapped hands to his mouth. "Korpi! [Language unknown: Nc fiha!]"

"Ka!" the distant protest returned.

[Language unknown: "Nc onecssma noen!"] Sky Dog added.

Re: Episode 8-5: The Shadow of Undeath

"I'll try and hold its attention!" he called out to the others. Something seemed to flicker into and out of one of his hands in a heartbeat, while his other held the sleek wand that he had shown them earlier. The doctor waved it briefly in a swish and with a flick of his wrist, trickles of dark lightning seem to dance and crackle along the edge of the wooden instrument, black in color with hints of dark blue and sparks of violet.

He pulled his hand back quickly, this time cracking his wrist like he was cracking a whip and a burst of that black lightning shot out from the wand and moved so as to make direct contact with the metal thing's head. The fey lightning didn't cease to flit along the length of his wand, waiting impatiently to be released again.

Daniel reached out a hand as the lightning arced toward the metal thing's head and screamed "Korpi!" Daniel hoped she avoided harm from Whateley or the bad doctor might be shorter by a head soon enough.

In confusion, eyes closed it tried to tilt its head. It wasn't able to see still, but the Doctor's black lightning danced past its head, missing it completely.

Re: Episode 8-5: The Shadow of Undeath

"Take cover!" he called to them. Caleb moved swiftly over to take shelter under the awning in front of the house, but took a look at the thing and then at the door that was right next to him. As a lawman and more, he'd been in more than enough gunfights. More gunfights than he'd wanted, truth be told. The truth was, he had a particular knack for them, despite his attempts to avoid them when prudence instructed he do so. This was one of those times.

He pulled up his gun and fired at the doorknob. The bullet buried itself in the knob, but didn't do a damn thing. "God dammit," he growled. Taking a step back, he leveled a savage kick at the door and felt it give a little bit.

Re: Episode 8-5: The Shadow of Undeath

The near miss of Whateley's attack had drawn a single, wordless cry of alarm from both siblings; seeing that danger pass, Sky Dog held up one hand to entreat Korpi to hold her position and two fingers to Whateley to indicate a second warning, body tensed with fury rooted in fear.

Morgan's attack on the door caused the shaman to flinch, then change his gesturing to indicate the others should sweep back. "It would be well to remove yourselves, yes," he agreed, and started wading the long grass towards the metal creation, circling away from the white men and woman.

"Ah, Iron Bear,"
Sky Dog addressed the same, voice pitched to carry louder than Morgan's kicks. "Do you hear me? A shamán comes to you, Iron Bear. The others will go from your view: if you had not been shooting at them, they would not trouble you! What for, this weaponry? I do not know that you do hear me, but it would be well for you to stop what you are doing, it will have a bad ending. We are not bandits..."

He squinted, and made out the black shape on the head of the monstrosity. His vision not being so good, he had initially not been able to see the target. "Mr. Morgan, out of the way!" he called. The door was much closer, and he had a clear shot at it.

Casting his wand out, dark energy burst out from its surface and towards the door causing the wood to shatter, bursting inward into the house, some of the pieces of the door slightly aflame.

"What are you doing, crazy?!" Coraline yelled at Sky Dog.  "Get away from that thing!  It is going to step on you!"  Though the others were retreating, and she thought it wise, she threw one last evanescent blast at the metal monstrosity.

Re: Episode 8-5: The Shadow of Undeath

Something again emerged from Coraline's hand, as if she was throwing a ball, though this ball wasn't easy to perceive by the naked eye. A swirling vortex of something, it slammed into the metallic construct's gun-arm, ripping it away from its body, leaving a gaping hole behind in the framework where the arm had attached to the metallic torso.

In an effort to regain its site, it slammed its remaining hand onto its head, hoping to clear the thing off.

Sky Dog flared away from the suddenly-detached and flying metal like a corvid from a corpse, the sweep of his arm for balance matched by the flash of wings abruptly raised against the sky.

Korpi fell back from the crazed Iron Bear, flapping until she was righted in the air. "Kaak!"

Pretty sure that he has nearly exhausted his ammunition, Randolph nevertheless aims his Gatling at the monster. Seeing the shaman and the raven withdraw from the creature, he pulls the trigger.

Re: Episode 8-5: The Shadow of Undeath

With the doorway now clear, the door itself a spray of splinters that seemed to litter the interior of the house from what little he could make of it standing on the outside, he did a cursory inspection inside and then turned his attention back to the outside. Jogging down the steps, he went to stand next to Coraline.

"Was that you?" he asked, his head nudging towards the arm that looked like it had been ripped away from the metallic construct in the distance. With his hands, he raised up his gun and took aim at the thing.

Sky Dog stepped back, readjusting his hood, then indicated Iron Bear to Korpi as she circled higher, throwing her a questioning word. Recieving what seemed to be an affirmative, the shaman's wrapped fingers flicked out in an 'around' gesture.
[Language unknown: "ilniil en!"]

"Ha! Ha!"
Korpi replied from on high, broadening her sweep to see if there was a nearby haystack or any similar source of something that might easily be dropped down the chimneys of the iron bear.

"Indeed it was, lawman, and a jolly good Bash at that," he said cheerfully. He squinted at the thing in the distance, thought about it, and slid his wand up his sleeve.

"Damn spots in my eyes. If it wasn't for the savage and his pet bird, I might be able to lash out at it well enough, but I won't risk hurting them."

After the latest assault, it turned and looked down at Sky Dog, before simply pulling its arm back and attempting to slam it into the small man's chest though the nimble Siberian seemed to move at just the right time as if by chance, taking only a glancing blow.

The end of Iron Bear's iron blow was enough to slam Sky Dog off-balance; the youth stumbled, flailed, and fell back into the long grass with a struck cough.
