OOC Discussion 4

Because you're a talkative bunch and the old one was almost at 1,000 posts. (And it sucks trying to search a thread if it actually hits 1k or more.)

Re: OOC Discussion 4

If you choose to create a character with a race that has variants such as Skinwalker (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/races/...rp/skinwalkers-10-rp), would you be allowed to choose one of those variants? Or does that fall under "no alternate racial traits"?

Re: OOC Discussion 4

CHARACTER CREATION thread:
ADDITIONAL TRAITS
You do not start with any character traits nor can you replace your racial traits with alternate racial traits. However, you can gain 2 character traits or up to 4 RP-worth of alternate racial traits by taking the Additional Traits feat. You cannot add completely new or unique racial traits such as those from the Advanced Race Guide, nor can you add racial traits that conflict with your existing racial traits (such as a Halfling's Craven).

Since guild paperwork is still being processed, how about a little 1v1?

Ugrim, would you care to fight Josep?

Master Shu, are you still looking for someone to duel? If so, would you be amenable to a standard duel in the small arena?

Re: OOC Discussion 4

Alright Kazan, let's do this. Small Boxed-in, standard everything else?

I also have a general question about energy resistance. These are a few rules that I was able to find.

quote:
This resistance does not stack with the resistance that a spell might provide.

http://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamema...OC-Energy-Resistance
quote:
The important aspect of bonus types is that two bonuses of the same type don't generally stack.

http://www.d20pfsrd.com/basics...s/glossary#TOC-Bonus
quote:
If a creature has damage reduction from more than one source, the two forms of damage reduction do not stack. Instead, the creature gets the benefit of the best damage reduction in a given situation.

http://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamema...TOC-Damage-Reduction

I don't really consider energy resistance as a "bonus" per say, but I've heard this phrase used in many contexts so I mentioned it. My question is this: if I have energy resistance from an extraordinary source and energy resistance from a supernatural source, would they stack? To me, it seems like they would. First, they are not from the same source. And also because supernatural energy resistance isn't from a spell.

I know DR from multiple sources doesn't stack (generally) and energy resistance is similar. But, the rules for both differ in this respect. DR specifically calls out that "two forms do damage reduction do not stack." Energy resistance just mentions that it doesn't stack with energy resistance from a spell. Any thoughts or additional rules would be helpful. Thanks

Unfortunately I am undergoing significant sheetwork at the moment, so I won't be able to fight.

If Shu isn't game, I am willing to fight once I shake off the icicles that Josep covered me with. I am a spellcaster of sorts, but definitely melee focused.

All Standard is fine.

In reply to Bruhli (msg # 8):

From what I read, I think it's more of an overlap, like the DR, in that you apply whichever is most effective. So if you are exposed to an Ex source, your Ex resistance would kick in, and for a Su source, your Su resistance would kick in. But that's just my interpretation.

Re: OOC Discussion 4

In reply to Chicchuan of the Bloodmoor (msg # 11):

Thanks for the response. I would agree with you about the DR point, but that provision is specifically drawn from the DR rule. The DR section explicitly states that if you have DR from multiple sources, you apply the one that gives the best protection in any given situation. However, the rules for energy resistance does not contain the same provision. Rather, it states that "this resistance does not stack with energy resistance from a spell."

Also, please let me know if I am misinterpreting your post. But from what I know about the energy resistance rules, how you receive your energy resistance does not determine what it works against. For example, energy resistance from an (ex) source will stop a non-(ex) type of damage (I.e. from scorching ray). To me, it seems like it would stack, but that's just my interpretation of the rules I have seen.

Chicchuan of the Bloodmoor, care to fight?
Standard arena, standard rules?

Now that you have joined Shadow's Caress, surely you would not turn down a straight fight against a member of the soon to be Thaumaturgical Alliance? I am sure you wouldn not wish to appear craven.

Re: OOC Discussion 4

Once again, a reminder to all those that are guildless and have no plans of taking magic based classes any time soon or those that are chaotic and/or evil aligned - or some combination of both,

Shadow's Caress is currently accepting guild members at an initiation fee of Lvl x 50gp until the end of next month. after which the initiation fee will return to lvl x 100 gp.

Take advantage of this opportunity. Get in to an awesome guild at half the cost! Especially of your not a spell caster and you don't like monks! (Those who are not monks but still use their firsts are welcome.)

Yes on terms.
I thought your deal was that you would join Latro's guild if he defeated you.

Re: OOC Discussion 4

We never officially made that a wager or anything, and besides, I'm actually considering taking a few levels in a Spellcasting class in order to supplement my current abilities.

And @ Bruhli, I think they overlap, because if you come into contact with, say an anti-magic field, a magic-based ER (energy resistance) would be negated, however, an Ex/Su ER would not.

Re: OOC Discussion 4

In reply to Chicchuan of the Bloodmoor (msg # 18):

Just because one would be useful in an antimagic field and one would not doesn't mean they don't stack. For example, if I were wearing a +1 Chain Shirt in an antimagic field, the +1 bonus would be suppressed but I would still receive the +4 regular bonus. And once I leave the antimagic field, the +1 enchantment and +4 regular bonus stack again. Varying usefulness does not equate to two things being unstackable.

Truthfully, I am looking for an actual rule. The rules above do not prohibit it. So without an actual rule to the contrary, I can only assume that they would.

In reply to Chicchuan of the Bloodmoor (msg # 18):

We do not discriminate here at shadow's caress. in fact we embrace all differing classes... except those of monks and lawfully aligned fools. They can burn in the infinite layers of hell.

I am simply stating that should those of you who want to join a guild but are currently prohibited from doing so because you do not currently have ranks in caster classes like poor Chicchuan or are of an alignment that conflict's with hiro's (Lawful neutral), then i encourage you to take up arms with me and my minio.. I mean.. cohorts.

Why limit yourself when you can have everything? Have your cake and eat it too! The choice is simple really.
