So josep, unless theres something i'm not aware of that your hydra can do, like see through mist, go ahead and retake your actions for your turn.

 Duly noted.

Hydra moved her normal speed to J1.

Note that she does not have to move at half-speed since she can still see clearly 5ft before her in every direction (as opposed to being blind, where you can't see at all)

So what you mean to say is, when you get tired of chasing spiders and hiro's dragon is the only thing close enough to use 11 breath weapons on. ;P
Also, when round three happens and the hydra still hasn't attacked anything yet.

I'll my get a post up tonight after work.

Playing a ver defensive ranged game with the other combatants, the Nightskitter shakes itself a little bit and suddenly begins moving much faster than previously.

Position: A3/C5 to

Actions: Use 1/day SLA - Haste (Standard), Move to A15/C17

132/157 HP
SR 23
DR 15/ Good and Silver

Effects:
Detect Magic - Constant
Magic Fang - Constant
Desecration Aura, 30 ft - Constant, DC21
Haste - Round 1/12 (+1 attack, +1 AC, +1 Reflex, +30 speed on all forms of movement)

Uses
Umbral webbing 2/8, Channel Negative Energy 0/9, 6 1/day SLA - 1/6, 3 3/day SLA - 0/3, 0/3, 0/3

Dice rolls:
12:36, Today: Latro Dectus rolled 24 using 1d20+16 with rolls of 8.  Umbral Web vs Dragon TAC 9.
12:37, Today: Latro Dectus rolled 2 using 1d4 with rolls of 2.  negative levels, DC 21 fort halves, min 1.
Take 10 climb check: 45

Summary: The Dragon may make a DC 21 fort save or gain 2 more negative levels for the time it is entangled by the umbral webs. A successful save halves this amount to 1. The Dragon is no more entangled that it previously was and the DCs to break free of the bindings remain the same. DC 28 Escape artist check or a DC28 Strength check as though caught in a net. Should the dragon succeed, he losses all negative levels gained through the umbral webbings.

OOC: Here's an issue we should probably resolve now before it comes up. Just keep the discussion in OOC while we continue to duke it out.
There are two things my nightskitter can do that are not banned under our current rules. One of them is climbing, the other is air walking.
As it stands, air walking is similar to flying, but it is not flying at the same time as it comes with it's own set of restrictions on what can and can't be done.
As for climbing, we all know I can brace against the force walls and climb up that, but can I climb on the walls on the edge and not on the conners? Logic says yes, because a nightskitter is a spider and the spell spider climb says the subject can climb and travel on vertical surfaces or even traverse ceilings as well as a spider does. Now even though looking at entries for any spider like monster, none of them say that the monster can traverse vertical surfaces with their climb checks but it is generally assumed to be so becuase their freaking spiders.

So my question is this - Is it reasonable to say that as a spider like creature with spidery legs and spidery everything that the nightskitter can easily traverse the force walls and ceiling of the arena with his spidery climb speed?

If you beat the DC for the ceiling with your climb check, yes. Having a climb speed does not mean you automatically succeed on every climb whatever the conditions. The ceiling is a force effect, so not very grippy I reckon.

Josep Gavinho:

I rekon with the ability to take 10 regardless of the situation on any climb check and that check being a 45, the nightskitter can beat most climb checks the arena can throw it's way.

but i shall do my due research in the arena and see if i can find any indication what the climb DC might be.

Edit: to quote the arena map thread
quote:
Default DC for all obstacles is 10 + average level of PC combatants (if PvP) or 10 + total CR of encounter (if PvE). Unless noted otherwise, this is the Climb DC for walls, Acrobatics DC for tight ropes, Swim DC for water, etc. Certain "hot spots" may have +5 or -5 to DC as determined by the GM.

so now the question is is this a PvP match or a PvE match? if PvP, the DC is 24 (using our monster's HD as their level) if PvE, our total CR is CR 15 (Cause three CR12s is equal to a CR 12 + 3 encounter according to the SRD) so the DC to climb the wall is 25. In either case, i can easily beat these DCs even rolling a 1.

Are these calculations acceptable to all those participating?

Re: Monster Mash #8: Hiro vs. Josep vs. Latro

According to our game post, the walls are masonry so I assume it should be an easy climb. The ceiling is probably a different beast altogether, as it is a force effect and not a surface (it's just something pushing you down).

My read is that the walls are climbable (this is explicitly stated in the map thread) but the ceiling is not.

quote:
TYPICAL ARENA
The large arena platform is a 100ft.-long, 100ft.-wide 50ft.-deep cube of dirt and rock. Surrounding this area is a giant force cube which goes 50 feet over the highest floor point and 50 feet under the lowest floor point as well (small arena is 50ft long, 50ft wide, 25ft deep, 25 ft tall). The force cube is enchanted with epic anti-magical barriers that not only make them immune to magic but also bar teleportation and dimensional gateways from moving through them. Summoning creatures into the arena and teleportation within the arena function normally (you just can't escape). The ceiling allows weather, water, sound and energy through, but not objects or creatures. The force walls can be climbed only by creatures with spiderclimb but the corners can be braced against (Climb DC20). Small throwable rocks litter the arena in just about every square and boulders line the out edge. Opponents begin on opposite corners of the arena as far as possible.

The webs do not expire. They were created and thrown, and now you're stuck in them until you break free. :D

I'll have my next turn up in a moment.

Also, just as a quick reminder to everyone

The HD penalty affects caster level, character level for spell resistance, class level for uncanny dodge, HD vs. sleep, color spray and similar effects and treats your CR as lower for the purposes of arena immunities.

<quote Latro Dectus>
Noticing that Josep's hydra is clearly making its way towards his Nightskitter, Latro orders that it feel the same fate as Hiro's dragon.

Forming the umbral webbings once more, the Nightskitter blasts the Hydra, entagaling it and draining it's lifeforce. The undead monster then skitters away to the corner to keep itself out of reach of the hydra, should she somehow find a way to escape its bindings.

Should the Hydra succeed, she losses all negative levels gained through the umbral webbings.

OOC: Now everyone has negative levels!! WooHoo!!!! I'm so generous! :D

Just so you both are on the same page with your negative levels and how the webs work, you can attempt to escape them as a full round action with an escape artist check or a strength check. DC 28 for both. If you manage that, you lose your negative levels and your entanglement status. No draw back, no nothing, right back to full stats beyond any damage accumulated while entangled.

However, until you do, you are entangled and are effected by each negative level gifted to you. (Yes, gifted. cause i'm such a nice spider. ;P) Each negative level reduces all D20 rolls by 1, reduces your max hp by 10 per level, and reduces your effective HD for spells and other HD based abilities (such as breath weapons saves and what not) by 1. In addition, for every 2 negative levels, you reduce both your AC and CMD by 1.

Re: Monster Mash #8: Hiro vs. Josep vs. Latro

I'll work on my turn - as an FYI level drain is 5 hp not 10:

For each negative level a creature has, it takes a cumulative –1 penalty on all ability checks, attack rolls, combat maneuver checks, Combat Maneuver Defense, saving throws, and skill checks. In addition, the creature reduces its current and total hit points by 5 for each negative level it possesses. The creature is also treated as one level lower for the purpose of level-dependent variables (such as spellcasting) for each negative level possessed. Spellcasters do not lose any prepared spells or slots as a result of negative levels. If a creature's negative levels equal or exceed its total Hit Dice, it dies.

Re: Monster Mash #8: Hiro vs. Josep vs. Latro

Quick question, would these webs have a hardness and HP? Are they a physical thing that can be attacked? I kind of feel like this ability is only half-fleshed-out, and is missing a few key rulings. At this point it sort of seems like a permanency magic effect, since they do not expire. Normal webs or nets can be attacked and take damage, so I'm thinking these should be the same?
