The ship was out of control-- resisting all attempts to even out, the entry into the atmosphere was damaging the hull.  Zhi'an had been able to steer the craft a bit, but it looked like they were coming in on a forest nearby a sizable urban area, and fast!

Zhi'an focused, calling upon the winds around her to help keep her from crashing.

The wind helped, and as a result, they weren't going too fast when the ship crashed into some trees.  Luckily, hitting several rows of trees helped with the impact as well, and while the impact was jarring, Zir'an wasn't hurt.

"Are you okay, Kryten?" Zhi'an asked. "That was quite the bad landing."

"I did not know that you intended to make this a burrowing vehicle," said Kryten.  "It appears to be inefficient for the purpose.  We have only managed to move half of our craft beneath the surface of the planet."

"Oh hush," Zhi'an said. "Maybe I'll get lucky and no one saw us crash."

"I will need time to decode their radio signals," said Kryten.  "We are near an urban area, however.  I doubt that everyone missed us."

"The Guardians aren't going to be happy with me," Zhi'an sighed before going to get a look at the ship's condition.

Indeed, they wouldn't be-- the ship's maneuvering thrusters had broken off entirely in the crash, the main engines were cracked and wouldn't function at all, and for that matter, the ship's hull integrity was compromised.  Without a serious overhaul, involving spare parts that this planet couldn't manufacture, the ship would never fly again.

"This is not good. Not good at all," Zhi'an said. "Looks like we're stuck here. Maybe I should have studied mechanics and starship repair instead of fashion."

"At least you can now be stylish as you attempt to integrate with the locals.  You can wear the most stylish pelts and accessorize with the finest bones and rocks," said Kryten.  He was, of course, exaggerating.  She'd picked up some radio signals from the planet; there was at least some kind of technological society present.

Zhi'an rolled her eyes.

"I'm more worried about the whole first contact thing. I'm not a diplomat, and who knows what these people are like? They could be cannibals for all I know."

"We could monitor some of their communications," said Kryten.  "It shouldn't be too hard for me to decode their broadcasts."

"Please do, I'm going to get a good look at our surroundings," Zhi'an said as she started flying up.

They were in a forest... well, one that had a sizable groove carved into it, now.  They were quite close to a large city, however, and the forest was close to a number of large roads that appeared to have a great deal of traffic... ground traffic, that is.  So far, she hadn't spotted a single flying vehicle.

"Have you found anything?" Zhi'an asked as she floated back down. "I'm surprised that we haven't caused a big scene."

"It appears that authorities are coming to investigate the crash," said Kryten.  "That said, whoever is attempting to tear off our left anterior engine nacelle has clearly arrived faster."
