Time Before the Fall
Modern Awakened have barely scratched the surface of knowledge that Mages wielded before the Fall and this is true even more so for the Mages of New York. Even so the discovery of hidden vaults and long unheard of Artifacts are cause for celebration among the Pentacale. Only a handful of such places have been discovered in the modern era and even fewer have have their Mysteries unraveled.
The Sleeping City (Neolithic Period - Approximately 1630’s)
The small tribes which lived along the rivers that would later make up New York City were frequently assailed by Spirits and Ghost among other horrors and much like in other parts of the world the Awakened attempted to defend and guide their people aligning with the Darshana like many other groups.
A story which survives to today tells of a devour of life that commanded beast that were warlike and monstrous. For centuries the disparate Awakened were obliged to pay a tithe of life to this creature defeating it only when all the Darshana cake together and banished the creature and its minions.
Unity was short lived however as the Seers of the Throne saw these Mages and would bend them to the Exarchs will or eliminate them. Resistance was short lived as the Seers proved to powerful to resist following the conflict against the devour of life.
Reign of the Exarch (1624 - 1735)
Slowly the Seers erase every magical tradition within the city that does not comply with their own, despite this some Cabals contour with their own practices in secret. These hidden enclaves will go on to become the foundation for the Free Council. By the close of the period the so called Nameless Orders operating in the city could openly defy the sovereignty of the Seers of the Throne.
The Great Refusal (1735 - 1827)
The simmering conflict between the cities Nameless Orders and the Seers becomes one of the venues for the conflict ultimately leading to the Great Refusal with the Nameless Orders organizing into the Council of Free Assemblies and allied itself with the Diamond Orders forming the Pentacale.
The Long Struggle (1827 - 2012)
The struggle between the Pentacale and the Seers of the Throne begins in earnest within the city with direct control passing between each faction several times throughout the period.
- The First Tyrants War (1939 - 1945)
Organized resistance by the Seers falls into disorder as the various Ministries interpret events happening around the world differently giving the Pentacale time to recover and consolidate its gains. The war only comes to an end when a new Tetrarch comes to power and the conflict comes to a temporary end.
- The Key of Blood (1969)
A Cabal of Mages serving the Mysterium discover a Verge that imprisons numerous Bound. The Cabal fights past the creatures retrieving an Artifact. After the Mages retreat with the Artifact a strange energy begins to emit from the Verge and those Mages responsible for discovering the Verge perish under mysterious circumstances. Eventually the Guardians of the Veil hide the Artifact with only those on the Council being privy to its location.
- The Great Debate (1970 - 1985)
The Pentacale argues amongst itself over what to do pertaining to the Verge and the mysteries surrounding the deceased Mages, the Mysterium and the Free Council desire answers while the Guardians and the Arrow would rather leave well enough alone. The Silver Ladder ultimately sides with the Arrow after a series of violent attacks against the Pentacale by the Seers which ultimately lead to the death of the then Hierarch. The Councilor Ombretta steps down to put aside the internal divide afflicting the Pentacale.
- Tyranny’s End (1970 - 2012)
The Council appoints Samael Hierarch, the Arrow Mage has one clear purpose upon his appointment and that is to end the oppression of the Seers. Gradually he leads the Pentacale to a decisive victory where he personal killed the Tetrarch and his apprentice the Centurion banished an Avatar of one of the Exarchs.
