The Foundry

The two huge  furnaces   go night  and day, 4 shifts  run, round the  clock to produce plates  for  fighters and  the Hermes herself. Sometimes the  ESN ships will use the plates  as tradegoods on planets and colonies.  The men and women who worked the Foundry were tough and no nonsense, at least half the football team were foundry folks, and they were proud of that.

However..there  were other   uses  for the foundry.....

Re: The Foundry

The 4  people walked in, well..three walked, one was pushed-dragged. The Foreman of the  3rd shift saw them Come in and  waved to one of the men working the LAdel on the Number 2 smelter.

in a few moments, a fork truck brought a white  hot vat of molten steel and  sat it off to the side, away from the workes and out of the way of production.

Hack Pulled out his  boot Knife  and cut away the clothing  from the wounded man's legs and  his  shirt and tunic.don't  worry about  the Bullet wounds, Manfred. In a few moments, you will remember how good they felt.

The LC stood there, her arms  at her side, her own bootknife in her hand.

Roy?  Souza? This will not  be pretty, it is going to be right up there with the Vids of the Demons. If that will bother you? you may stand  down...if not, watch...and learn

Hack sliped  a mall metal hook through the  Pastic handcuffs then attached the   other ned to the fortrucks  forks, he waved the operator  who lifted  Baron   in the  air, and hand him hovering about  a foot over the  superheated  metal...eve from there, Baron Moaned  as his  toes began to redden. Here's the deal, Manfred. You tell us  about  who you worked with, who might have helped you...and  we put you in the brig...we wait until we get to  Fugi, and you have your day in court...worse thng happens..you get shot, or spaced...

NO!, He shot  Shadow...he does not deserve...

Hack looked up at the  wriggling man, the heat ws  hurting his toes, sweat was pouring off him..now..the heat is bad, but  did yo ever see flesh when it touches this  stuff? It melts..i understand there is no greater  pain..but..i have only watched it....

now?  You don't talk to us?  we dip you in...say...1/4 inch...you won't bleed, everything  with be cartarized..but you will hurt like the  9 hells..and we will do that every day..I think the longest  a man lasted  was  3 days...we only got  as far as melting his toes off...damn shame too, never got what we needed...but? we were not  any worse off then before, and we had a damn good time  watch him scream...so for us? nothing to lose.

Re: The Foundry

Roy nodded at Hack's gesture.  "If it's all the same to you, Sir, I've got security details to arrange..."  He snapped a salute and spun an about-face smartly, walking back to the door.  He could hear Hack describing what he had in mind for the prisoner, and he frankly doubted the guy would last long with that kind of shock to his system...but he didn't entertain any thought of protesting.  He had no love for traitors...and even less for those who'd sell out humanity to the Demons, knowing what he did about their enemy.

Roy?  You might want to see, about "finding " us another  shooter...aye?

As Roy ( and Souza?) moved to the  iron doors that  keep the foundry shut off from the resty of the ship, they could hear a Long  drawn out  scream.

if they Looked  around, hey would note  that the workers   kept  Grinding, cutting and hauling...just another day at the foundry.

Anthony followed with the Master Sergeant's salute with his own, "I will take my leave Sir." Anthony said as he lowered his salute and holstered his side arm, following the Master Sergeant back out. He did not find it entertaining nor educational. He did not question his command but he did not take what they were doing very well. "Master Sergeant wait for me" Anthony said as he jogged forward a bit and ended up walking on the sergeant's left flank to follow him out.

Roy slowed his pace long enough for Souza to catch up with him, without stopping.  "Lousy way to die," he commented, as he resumed his normal pace with Souza alongside.  "Can't say that the walking excrement pile hasn't earned it, though.  I'd have made it a lot faster, myself, but I'm not the man in command."  The arrived at the door, and Roy spared one glance back.  It was impossible to tell if the grimace of distaste was because of what he saw, or what he thought of the man it was happening to.  Then he turned away and walked out.

Roy nodded, needlessly, as he got the comm message.  "C'mon, Souza...let's go hunting..."  He increased his pace, without breaking into a run.  If Grah had any cohorts hiding somewhere else in the crew, the sight of a couple of armed men running toward the Rec Deck might get notice sent to him and give him a chance to make himself scarce.  But a quick march?  That just meant someone wasn't very patient...not terribly noteworthy on this ship, especially since Roy tended to use that pace anytime he was going somewhere on his own.

Re: The Foundry

when the doors opened, it  may ( or  may not ) have brought  'warm' memories  of Hel back to Zob. The Doors  Closed    as soon as he passed the threshold, Huge fans  sucked  air  upwards to  be passed through Filters, then down into the 'gardens'  Below..from there..the Heat rose to the channels , heating the  bottom of the Civie section.

People working  were short sleeved, or no sleeved. Sweating  and gritty. Two LAdels  were Glowing bright  with Molten metal  to be cast into  the  ESN Plating molds, or into Ingots for trade and storage. Not  far from Zob was an Engineer in a dirty lad  coat  and two others working on a  new Mold, for some project.

a Burly HUman, man  inch or two taller the Supe, and  maybe  50lbs  heavier  made his way over to Zob, He  pulled his Goggles over the brim of his hard hat,..Hey there..watcha need... we're not  supposed to let folks  hang around  here  without a reason. he Nodded to the CAt walk above them. Two huge  Cranes,  ran on tracks, Just below the  Office. A few  Hermes SEC, could be seen patrolling, or stationed at different points...even they had  short sleeves, and Vests, but not the  normal full uniform.

The  group walked In and  Hack waved to the Foreman, he  Yelled out  and  Blew a whistle...dozens of  people headed  to exit  that lead to Break rooms and locker rooms. Only a handful of folks were left.

The Foreman  went over to a Fork lift and  drove It over to one of the smaller Cauldrons ...in side  was  white hot  Metal, just a bit of crust forming on the top.

Supe  went  off  to the side a bit and sat down, two SEC troops  had  their weapons ready, the other  two stood guard  inside the main doors.

Well...Lors? Here we  are.now?  I could send you to the SEC rooms..they could talk to you...maybe  shoot you up with something to  help you talk. But...My people have   had a long  day..so i rather  do this myself..now?  I'm not real smooth...so...the  sooner you realize this..the less of you have  to die.

The Foreman  lifted the Demon into the air  and moved towards the  vat.

He got control  for a Bit  and said in a softer tone,..I want information...I need information...I do not have it now....and if I kill you...i still will not have it. Now? Re: The Foundry

Hack truned to the Foreman and nodded.  The Foreman raised the  forks as high as they were able to go..the man running the VAt, tilted it, ever so slightly..the Crust broke  abit to the white Hot metal peeker through.

The Foreman  moved the forklift closer, and brought the demon  down to within 6 feet of the  Rim... The  Creature was struggling... its  eyes  wide  with fear, its  teeth gretted  against the pain, as its Unifrom began to smoke, and  Bootsoles  started to melt.

Hack Pointed to the demon and  said,..we only have to dip them towards the end...the heat coming off that  molten meatl is  enough to burn...and cause  pain

Lors  snapped,..akd him your  damnable  questions!

Hack Looked  back at Lors, then Looked at demon with a  smile,Him?..no....He's   being used to show  you what if going to happen to the rest of you...he  dosn't get to answer Questions...you know?..Mucvh like those  folks you had  hanging  in bags, or laying on the  Butcher tables...

The  Foreman watched  Hack, who gave him another  nod..the  Foreman started to tilt the forkblades  forward...the demon's uniform Burst into Fames  and it began to scream...

..we have never timed it? But somewhere are 3 minutes   until the skin burns  and melts...another  2 or three before  the  pain overtakes   every fiber  of your being...then...well...yo die....

another nod and the Burning , screaming demon was tilted closer yet..its  skin plates  started to Pop..it Howled in pain, screamed for mercy....

..Yeah....right  about now?  Is when they want to tell me everything?..but?..its  too late...there's no coming back from this point on....

one last Nod, the forman  hits the Pin that Held  the  chains in place and the screaming  Creature  fell face  first into the Vat...

Hack turned around with a Grin. Pretty neat, Huh? about  6 minutes...and you either have  your questions answered, or..you get rid of one more enemy....

Lors  was shaken, as were the other demons, and you dare to call us  evil!

Hack Looked at the floor, then  looked back to Lors,well?..so far..none of us have eaten any of you......or  tried to  use you as Breed animals...

The Foreman whistled and Pointed to a fellow  up on the CAtwalk, by the office. and made a sign with his arms   in a cross. the feloow  nodded  and was headed down to the floor.

about  5 minutes  after   the dermafoam was applied, A Corp of the SEC  came  running down, a HArdammo Thompson on his  Shoulder.  Reporting...Admiral?

Garrat goes for a common Asgard alloy, that uses trace amounts of the more expensive metals with out really running up the cost or stressing the supplies of the forge.

He also puts one on the books that's similar to angel steel [he's not asking to make any at this time, only giving it to them so he can price it's production] which he refers to as Dwarven Alloy, or Alloy for short.  And one that he refers to as mythril catalyst made up of cobalt and a soup of semi conductors.

(( from Hanger Dec after Nivar signing))

Shadow, MC-1, and Roy entered the Foundry. The Foreman frowned when he saw the  purple, elongated head, witht hem.

..What I need.. is  for your all to take a break....no more then 30 minutes or so... if sooner.. I'll COM you...

...we Have a Batch of metal, should be ready in 20?..can't let it  sit too longer,, the timer goes off and it will cool. ruin the whole Mix

..Alright then?... Come back when you have to...

The Foreman Hit the PA, from his COM,..alright   guys  and Gals...  20 Minutes, unless i call you sooner.. Everyone ..out....

the   people made there way..some of the broad shouldered Men who played football waved at Shadow..and soon, the Only noise in the  place  was coming from the giant ladle.

Shadow was  about to say something, then reached  inside his  jacket and pulled out his  COM... he frowned  and ask for a repeat, and turned it on Speaker...

..LC..Roy?....we're about to go into the  Hold..... Give MC-1 the choice... he can try, not to talk.. and you cook him....or.. he can talk, and his reward  is. he can fight one of you to the Death.. if he wins, he goes free.... BUT..only if he talks..

Shadow Motions  for Roy to   cut the  Zip ties,  they lead   MC-1 over to the ladle,..beth you don't have anything like this on your ships.... every Cap ship has one... not only can we make out own repair plates and such.... but if the ship has to crsh land ona planet, the colony will have a forge..Now?..You feel that  heat.. and  were 20 yards  away....he grabs him  and jerks  him forwards...This is  10 yards.....  Shadow  and MC-1 gritted their teeth against the Pain...

He pushes MC-1 Back towards  roy , very roughly, any closer, without the suits.. our skin would  begin to blister...Now.. here is what you might get to do...... If you want to be a hero..and trust me MC-1..no one is ever going to know if you were..or weren't.. you can try not to talk.... in which case.. we will bind you to the over ehad  crane.. and Lower you, to about 2 yards away from the Molten metal... you will suffer. like  no one ever has..but you won't  die.. we'll make sure of that.. you'll be cooked  alive..slowly... until you answer the question..of  course? it might be too late to save you then.

..on the other hand... You can  answer the question, right away..and Have a 50-50 shot, of getting off this  ship..and?  You get to pick which one of us  you  get to fight.... now..how can you beat a deal like that?

He rubbed his  skin were the  heat had  burned it   slightly, and he looked at the  bright light  shining from inside the ladle,..so?..I kill one of you..the other one kills me anyway...

..saddly?  No... Admiral is giving you a way out.. I can't  break his orders... and Roy won't...

He grins  with a look of triumphant hate, what do you want to know....

Roy said nothing.  He was more than ready to deal wuth MC-1, if the Roussian decided to break for it and run, but he'd made his disgust abundantly clear on the shuttle.  His response was limited to a curt nod when Shadow said they'd honor Hack's order.  But he was quite certain that the Roussian wouldn't live to see Hack's orders obeyed...not the 'let him live if he wins' order, anyway.  The Roussian was treacherous...if not a spy...and Roy had few compunctions about killing him.

...she is not a stupid woman... Mr Shadow.. The Empire  respects her alliances ..and once the APF is defeated ..she will have her  own section of the galaxy for her own...

..it will not matter to you... you will be  dead, and eaten, , well before the Empire gets the courage to attack  the Darl Alliance....

Shadow shrugs,..Right Then.... lets get to the Big Question...and your reward..shall we? What the 9 hells are those Machines on Nivar....

...you did not believe us and the nivarians? he chuckled.

..lets go..time is running out  on your ticket out of here...

..alright then?...Since Nivar is lost....for now...They are supposed to be the rgeat golden  guns.... The Rays of Nivar, herself. Except the incompetent Nivarians cannpt seem to  have the weapons manned , at all times.... If the MAchines  are on.. and kept on.. they channel the power of the planet's Core into Great beams of golden light... if  full powered, they could completely cover  on hemisphere or the other, in a shield , or be used as cannons that  can reach some 100,000 miles... and have a 1000 mile wide  scope...they took out 6 demon Cap ship with those guns ,  when your people  were first learning  how to flat in the air in bags of gas...

He shakes his head,...but thier Holy People..wanted the great golden beams.. so they concentrate don that, rather then the weapon that saved them... but lefting the   guns  sit..and  powering them up, when needed.. you get a Beam.. weaker in every aspect... You will not see that on the Roussian Homeworld , Our weapons are  always , on the ready.

Re: The Foundry

Roy shrugged, and pulled out the kukri.  For the fuss that MC-1 had made, the dirk had advantages in close combat...a kukri was a heavy blade, designed for hacking and chopping, and not for the kind of agile work that was usually a part of close in-fighting.  That said...Roy's close-combat style didn't rely much on a blade...

He eased into a ready stance, watching the way the Roussian moved...his focus wasn't much on feet, or even hands...those could lie.  His focus was MC-1's center of gravity, the hips and lower torso.  No matter which way arms and feet went, the body had to move where the hips were going...

He also kept half an eye on how MC-1 stood, and held his legs...if they were kept flexed, or if Roussian combat was a straight-legged style.  He moved enough to be ready to deflect any of the feints, but didn't commit to anything...much as the Roussian was testing him, he was assessing the Roussian, watching for weaknesses other than arrogance and overconfidence.

He crouched slightly, circling...reluctantly extending his hand back out again, making a show of working his fingers, as though verifying that everything still worked properly...inwardly, he waited, watching for MC-1 to try the attack again...

Roy settled his weight above the Roussian.  "You're lucky you chose me.  Shadow would make you suffer.  I probably should, for the sake of all the people whose deaths you helped engineer."

He took a breath, and shrugged.  "But, frankly, you're not worth the energy I'd spend on the effort."  He raised his kukri in the air, blade turned in its proper orientation again, and brought it down on the back of MC-1's head, as though splitting a melon.

-----> From Field

Zob had the battle with the Verian's on the mind it wouldn't be long until they would have to go and fight again and he wanted to be ready, he took a step forward and felt the familiar heat of the foundry he enjoyed quite a bit when he arrived he looked for the foreman about getting some axe molds poured.

Zob nodded and took a few minutes and drew up a quick design for him showing Mitch just what he had in mind, "I think this should be sufficient" he then handed Mitch a pink 100 cred bill.

once the  boards  were on  place  be began to pour  it  full of form  foam.... Mitch  Brought  out   the  carving   tools.

Re: The Foundry

Zob took the opportunity to move off to the side out of the way to watch the guys work, he wasn't efficient in the whole mold forming process but he was well trained in the pouring process but if he watched he could learn a thing or two.

Re: The Foundry

It took Mattsie  a good  20 minutes  to  fill the  frame box with the foam... then Blake   began to out line the   weapons in the foam. He allowed a couple  feet  from each weapon.

another  10 Minutes , he had them all laid out.  and then began to   cut  into the  fam with the specialized tools.

the double checked the  for the  thickness of the  blades, and the  cylindrical  handles, Mattsie  came back  with  Pipe 'handles' for  Blake to use .

Mitch smiled at the  pair as he said to   Zob,..those pipes  will be  eaten by the steel, but it  will add a mor ...composite.. to the  hanled,, the  Heads of the wapons  will be poured first and allow the  steel to   flow into the handles , thus making them 'pure ' steel from the ladle.

Zob nodded, "Sounds like a plan Mitch" he was watching so he could learn in case if he wanted to give it a shot next time he was in the foundry but that would have to wait until after the upcoming conflict.

Re: The Foundry

Blake's  skill at  cutting out the   molds  were   effortless, once the   forms  were set, he  sprayed the  inside  of the  forms.

Mattsie  said, spraying them  seals  off  air holes , soe the metal   flows  where it's suppsoed to go. It saves  alot of time  in grinding later...

they  pushed the  cart over to the LAdel

I always  wanted to   be  an artist, but my father  said tehgre was more creds in  metal for   Cap Ships... he was right?.. but?  doesn't  do me much good out here....still? we  get small jobs like this one in a while, that i can  use  my  skils on..

Mattsie  had a Long handed   ladle, he held it out as he stood on the form. Blade   let the sluce gate open ,  the smaller man   filled  the  ladle   and  poured the  further  axe first.. working his  way  back. housing  a   full ladel for each. Though the  man was small, his arms  were corded   as  he  moved the ladle as  one  might  a broom...another   15 minutes of this... and the Axes  were poure.

Mitch smiles  at the Men, he   gives  Blake the Money,That's  from  The SGT here.. you two split it.. turning to Zob,we'll let the  set a   day, near the   starbard Stern..its the closest place in here...
