"Acknowledged, Cmdr. Geary."

Teala quickly made her way to the XO ready room, short walk as it was. Pausing at the door, she chimed to enter, uncertain if he had already arrived.

In reply to Teala (msg # 1):

Decker paced the room.  It was sparse, but it would do.  He found a nice place on one of the end tables and placed his Denobian Biosphere for display.  It wasn't much, but it helped humanize the room.

He knew Teala would be there shortly, so he checks his 5'11" frame in the mirror to make sure the uniform was properly fit.  Then he checked his curly black hair. He blamed his hair on his Italian roots, it was his family heritage and curse, it never seemed to fit right, always a bit on the messy side.

He turned as her heard the door's alert, stepping behind the desk, he turned to face the door, "Come in, please." he announced.  As soon as the door opened, he walked to the door to greet his visitor.

In reply to Decker Geary (msg # 2):

"Thank you, sir," Teala said as she entered, having instinctively deferred to him as a superior.  She was the same rank as Geary, but it was something Teala felt she hadn't quite earned, only given to her by Farah when first recruited.  She took a moment to regard Geary.  Like most of the Cadmus team, Farah had recruited him herself, but there was something about Geary that Teala couldn't quite reconcile.  Rather, something about Farah when it came to Geary.  It was not her place to ask, however, and she simply made a mental note of it.

Taking a seat at the desk, she waited for Geary to sit before beginning. "As you're aware, we're travelling to the Jorett system to see initial field tests of a new type of quantum torpedo Starfleet Command may want to deploy against the Dominion should hostilities break out.  We've already briefed the Science, Medical and Engineering teams on what we hope to learn, but we're not yet certain how the teams will be deployed.  It's possible Captain Green, Commander Malko and yourself will each oversee one of them.  We'll know more once we arrive."

He nodded as he listened to Teala's report, "Very good, as long as we stay vigilant, we should be able to head off any unforeseen issues.  We also need to make sure the lines of communications stay open." The old cliches always come up in these situations. He should just have a recording or a virtual hologram of him saying these things.  "Right now there is not much we can prepare for until the tests draw nearer."

"I understand your concerns," Teala said to Geary, taking them seriously as she always did such things.  "We have a few days before arriving at the test site.  Perhaps you should speak to Lt. Cmdrs Matheson and sh'Elliaph on developing proper test plans. I know you accompanied Matheson on the trip here, but it might do you well to get familiar with the other members of the crew?  You should also get to know Lt. Istala Res.  She'll be your helmsman on your shift and is quite skilled."

In reply to Teala (msg # 5):

"Excellent idea about getting to know the others.  Thank you for the advice."  As usual, he was more interested in getting to know the ship, he neglected time with the personnel. He was sure they would respect his position, but in most cases teamwork was more important. "Where do most of them gather in their spare time?"

As he stood to dismiss Teala, he added, "In the mean time, if you can think of anything else about the tests or you hear of anything, and I mean anything that is unusual, please let me know, especially the closer we get to the test and the test site."

Teala paused as she searched for Istala and found her where she most expected her to be.  "With others on their shifts, Lt. Res is in Holodeck 1 training.  She's quite accomplished at Galeo-Manada, if you are of the sort.  Despite the ship's size, there's no one location, I don't think.  Their quarters, the Officer's Lounge, holodeck or even the labs getting some cross-training.  I'm sure the computer can locate anyone you need.  If I learn of anything new, I'll let you know."

*semi private scene, posting on rpol because yay reading.
Scene title (because I can):
~message to Captain Farah~

Scene IC:

As the instructions from Farah went out to instruct the crew to send in reports. Frustrated she hadn't been able to talk to the commander prior to now, jess would turn down a hallway and step into a nice, quiet, unused and private room.

As soon as she was in and the door was closed, she would let a sigh out. it had been a long first shift. Internal thoughts 'Jeez, way to fail in the most horrifying way possible little j. Hopefull all they do is turn back around and drop you off for re assignment...' she had thought this to herself many times already, but couldn't help but barrate herself once more before again trying to face her failure.

She pulled out a pad, gave her credentials, and first filled out a commendation for Lieutenant Blatt, presenting in it that every command she gave, he was there doing it before the command was even given. He was at least a step ahead of her and perhaps two steps ahead of bridge. While she issues the orders, he lead the warp core room and those engineers staffing it both by action and word. Lieutenant Blatt was critical to countering and managing this crisis.

She then sent her Commendation.

Finally speaking out loud, "ok, lets do this"

She cleared her throat, not that she needed to, "Computer, send Captain a dictated message. Start in 3, 2, .... Captain, This is Lieutenant Commander Laurant, please forgive my insistence. I have something to report that I feel is too significant to just put in an incident log and would prefer person to person, is now acceptable?"

Hour of truth.

What/where will things go? will Farah yeet everyone into space? or will it just be Jessica? only the next 40, yes 50, shut up and just accept it...

only time will tell, no I didnt typo.

As 0745 struct, Jess was passing back and forth in the hallway adjecent to the captains, making sure to fret and stress as appropriate withouth disturbing the captain.

It was absolutely questionable how much sleep J actually got that night.

fatigue and 'bags' under her eyes were becoming clear,

O745, as instructed.

Jess would have actually arrived nearly 30 minutes earlier, spending some time meditating and bracing herself, staying down the hall from the ready room. A small chirp alerted her when it was a few minutes before and she finished the trip to the Captains room.

"Computer, inform Captain Greene I am outside the room."

In reply to Jessica Laurent (msg # 14):

"Come."

The door opened to reveal Farah sitting at her desk with some partially eaten breakfast and a number of PADD's before her, each with something different on its display.  Farah had been reading one of the PADDs as Jess entered, then turned to her terminal to type something in without acknowledging Jess' presence, as if trying to put a thought into words before losing it.  The thought entered, she glanced up briefly at Jess, then looked back to another PADD.  She was clearly in the middle of something, but was squeezing Jess into her time.  "What can I do for you, Ms. Laurent?"

Jessica took, a moment to note the pads. She knew the captain wanted the pads before 8 and likely she was compiling her own report, Jess had her own pad and as she sat down so to would she set down her own pad.

Time was up, no more time to search for the right words, no more time to overthink it, she understood she couldn't just sit there in silence.
"I believe this entire incident is my fault...." If she was permitted to, she would continue "Near the end of what is a routine diagnostic for me, the last thing was the neural interface systems. I was looking through it and hit an odd part of the system when I got security alerts, because I know ships I can recognize it was my access. As such, and as I was acting Chief Engineer, I request you place all engineering punitive actions on me, and only me."

Farah paused in what she was doing as Jessica spoke and did not react, save for the flicker of emotion across her face between inhale and exhale.  She didn't move save for a finger that tapped a few times.  Then as if released from some invisible hold, Farah was looking at the next PADD. "Put it in the report due to me, Lt. Commander," she ordered tersely.  "I will add it to the findings of my investigation."

Jess would give another glance to the datapad she placed on the captain's desk, look back to the captain and nod.

Then she would stand, move to a position of attention as a sort of silent solute before then moving to exit the room.

They say the worst reaction is a quiet one.

She saw Lt. Blatt and gives him a friendly smile.

"Hello." As she takes a nearby chair. Placing her Padd on the table in front of her.
