Honestly, In polytheistic societies, they tended to worship one god, more than others, and that caused frictions even then. As the gods had to compete for favor among the people. In Athens They primarily worshiped Athena, unless they were dealing with another god's domain. Like water for Poseidon. I believe it worked similarly in norse mythology, and egyptians. And really all humans tended to prefer one god over others, as a whole. This being said yes it's completely normal, and a rational god might say, Hey, You've decided to enlighten my people to your presence, is it alright if I do the same? That being said as a whole they did actually worship all the deities, until Monotheism took over, and Zeus was declared the one true God in Greece. Don't know nearly as much about other mythologies, but as a whole your correct, and why I didn't have a real problem with it.
