Rules of Fair Play

A code of conduct, adapted with gratitude from Jenny's "Rules for Play or How Not To Be An Asshole."

1. Please remember we're all on the same side. GM, players, the goal is to have a fun experience. Treat one another accordingly.

2. Something Rich and Strange is rated as a Mature game. That means graphic, explicit sexual or violent scenes are not allowed. Teasing and suggestiveness is fine, describing every thrust and grind in intricate detail is not. Utilize Fade To Black and leave the rest to the readers' imaginations. This includes in game PMs.

Scenes involving rape and sibling/parent or sibling/sibling incest are completely forbidden. No exceptions.

3. No God-Mode behavior. No one is all powerful and all knowing and you do not, by default, have permission to act for any other PC or named NPC. Moving around minor NPCs (servants, valets, etc.) is fine. Making up a minor NPC to serve a scene (a waiter, a minor sailor, a street urchin, whatever) is also fine. Having Benedict surrender in a fight will get you slapped down HARD.

In this same vein, do not write what another PC is thinking/feeling/reacting. That's not your job.

Killing of characters... this is a big one. There is no killing of another player's character unless the owner of said character gives permission to do so and that the GM is aware of it and approves it. The illusion of mortal danger is fine but players place a lot of work into their characters and arbitrary murder of those characters is not allowed.

If you think this would interfere with your enjoyment of play, then this may not be the game for you. There will be plenty of danger, and it is possible for your character to die or be out of commission for in-game years, but I'm not interested in running a character grinder.

4. Please communicate with me in a respectful, intelligent manner, and I will do the same. Failing to do this is grounds for expulsion from the game. Flaming or arguing the toss will get you removed. Please respect decisions once made.

5. If something that happens IG or OOG really rubs you the wrong way, do let me know in PMs.

6. Posting Procedures. Please keep your posting perspective in the Third Person, past or present tense whichever is easiest for you. It has been found that this is an easier format for other players to follow and interact with as too many "I" posts gets confusing.

7. Do not 'thought post' just to shit post. I mean those posts where you write something like 'Corwin didn't say anything about how stupid Eric's hair looked or how typical it was that the rest of these peons didn't have any reaction to how stupid Eric's face looked too. He wanted to roll his eyes at Deirdre for fawning over Eric's supposed successful move, but he didn't. Corwin knew he would have done something way better, but he wasn't everybody's favorite, that was Eric for whatever reason. Guess people didn't like real talent.'

It is absolutely okay to post your character's thoughts in-post without it being a shit post. If Corwin's player finished the above pretend post with Corwin saying something or indicating in some-how SOME of what he was feeling, it might (just might) be able to fly.

Or as Jenny says: No asshole posts. These are the posts where a player puts out every negative thought their character has about the other characters and the players of those other characters have no chance for reacting. If you don't have the balls to come out and say it and accept the appropriate response, don't put it in the public venue.

That is passive-aggressive bullshit.

Don't be passive-aggressive.
