(IC) Fenricks Trail into the Caves

Following Fenrick into the cave, the light from the entrance shows directly in front of the entrance a trash pile smelling of rotten flesh and feces greets each of you, the light reflects enough to show branching paths one leading West and one East. Fenrick recalls coming from the West branch. Berdari decides to watch your backs and stays at the entrance. The pathways are dark with no torches, and obviously well-trafficked by the same small feet of goblins. Echoing the hallways you hear chattering and growls, none of you are able to make out, [Language unknown: "Ncich i isss hesan pawiho re ouacla, an wheas tant allromect our stiwerstr, echaut anysonbut To ntetrathe unson elble stet icol!"]

How do you proceed?

OOC: I will need the marching order, please. Also, See Map 2. You are at the Entrance at letter D.

Fenrick will be in front, leading the party.

(OOC Do I have any idea what is down the east and west branches?)

Added:
“I believe I came from this path”, pointing to the west.  “I think we should try that way first.”

(IC) Fenricks Trail into the Caves

Anders again strove to stay in the middle of the group as they walked along. The front, especially, could be precarious in a dangerous situation. The rear could be also if something or someone snuck up on them from behind. While he had spells, he was not the world's best melee combatant.

He listened to the noises and quietly asked, "anyone understand that?" He paused. "also, I can't bloody see, in case anyone wasn't aware and/or cared."

Then he quieted down once more, gripping his staff tightly the other hand on the shoulder of the person in front of him since he couldn't see anything, but not wanting to give away their position by lighting a torch.

OOC: Anders will be in the middle.

(OOC Can we fit three across?  I'm doubting, maybe 2?)

Fenrick, also unable to see, reiterates the others' concerns.

Quietly, he speaks to the others "Yah, I can't see either.  A torch probably isn't a good idea as well, but may be necessary.  Who knows how many there are and where they are; we need to surprise them if possible."

Chelonia, realizing that few in the group possess darkvision, as both she and Lago do, she instructs:

"If anyone has a torch, light it now so that you are all able to see.  I possess darkvision that far exceeds that of most mortal beings.  I will be able to spot anything approaching.  Be prepared to snuff it out at my command though, as I am also able to bestow upon all of you the ability to see in the dark.  It only lasts for about ten minutes, so I will wait until such time as its use would be most beneficial to the party."

Anders gave a nod, thinking Chelonia at least might be able to see it beside her. He fumbled for a torch from his pack and set it down. Then he used a minor cantrip to light it with no muss or fuss, gesturing at the torch while holding his staff. "Magicae Parum."

He picked the torch up quickly in his left hand, the right still holding his staff. "i'll likely have to drop it if we have to fight off anything." He gave a nod. "ready."

(IC) Fenricks Trail into the Caves

The light illuminated the cavern, timbers spaced 6 feet help hold up the earth above you. Past the entrance the cavern grows taller nearly 7 feet and spreads about 10 feet wide, able to walk two abreast with comfort. As the group slowly makes their way up the west passage being lead by Fenrick and Gryphon they see flickering firelight reflected off the walls ahead, to the left going south is a small chamber, with a door slightly open. Fenrick instantly recognizes this as his cell he escaped from. Strange, there is only one cell, and it isn’t a prison, it’s a storage area. At that moment, all of your instincts fire up. The talking from the tunnels stop. You hear from behind you a muffled thud and a voice cry out and then silence. A trap.

From in front of you six goblins each wearing scrapped together leather and hide armor, wicked primitive spears in their hands. Then from behind six more goblins, and two larger creatures there heads nearly hitting the top of the tunnels, their eyes and ears large as a goblins, though they stand straight up with muscular bodies evidence of their peek discipline. One of the tall ones yells a command in an unknown language. The goblins lurched forward attacking with abandon. The two taller creatures stand in the back watching.

As the last word of the Hobgoblin left his throat a bolt shot into and out the other side of his throat with a gargling noise the Hob fell to his knees and a heap of flesh and leather, a second bolt, just as fast slammed into the other hob between his eyes the bolt knocking the hob off his feet from the force its 6'4" frame clasping on Bardari behind him. Startled the Goblins sit back on their heels, but still, fire is in their eyes, not laughing gleefully at a fight, angry that the intruders have killed their own.

A large mass appears from a secret door that the other three goblins had opened. The large Mass blocks all the light from the entrance and can barely move down the tunnel, its ugly face turns toward you all, a foul odder feel your nostrils.

If it's not already out, Chelonia steps on the torch flame to put it out.  She then blesses the entire group with the ability to see through the deepest gloom.  She then focus inwardly and her shell glows for a moment.
As a bonus action you can give yourself a +2 AC for 1 minute per long rest

Action: Eyes of Night

Spoiler text: (Highlight or hover over the text to view)
Eyes of Night - 1st-level Twilight Domain feature

Your eyes are blessed, allowing you to see through the deepest gloom. You have darkvision with no maximum range; you can see in dim light as if it were bright
light and in darkness as if it were dim light.

As an action, you can magically give the benefit of this feature to any number of creatures you can see within 10 feet of you. The shared benefit lasts for 10
minutes. You can extend this benefit a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier (a minimum of once), and you regain all expended uses when you finish a
long rest.

Anders is fairly surprised as his tortle companion stomped out the torch he had just dropped. Darkness encompassed his eyes, only to be lifted a moment later in to a very unfamiliar haze of gray! He blinked rapidly several times in a row as he tried to make sense of what he was seeing in this new and strange way.

He made a vaguely arcane like gesture and hesitantly uttered the phrase to go along with it, "Fulmine Ignis!" He pointed his staff at one of the goblins but the bolt of fire sailed off over the creature's head. "crap."

Re: (IC) Fenricks Trail into the Caves

After watching the Hobgoblins fall Chelonia steps out the light and blesses each of you with the ability to see in the darkness, from her hand you see a stone polished and chiseled glowing purple after the spell she puts it back into her pouch. Not thrown off by the change of vision Fenrick drove his sword through the throat of the lead goblin snuffing out his life, in the darkness a green glow is evident coming from his necklace. Lago with great agility took down two more goblins, missing a third.

Three goblins fill the ranks of those that fell around Lago. Two wild swings easily sidestepped by Lago, a Javelin is thrown from the third Goblin shattering off the shield of Chelonia.

The Goblin ranks in front of Fenrick and Gyrphon fall back leaving room for the hulking Ogre, he steps up and takes a swing with his mighty fist the blow slamming into Gryphon knocking him into the wall with a resounding crash. The Goblins in the back ranks thrown javelins into the group four javelins clatter to the ground bouncing off the walls and ceiling. One Javelin jabs Fenrick in the upper arm, another hit falling nearly short scraps Anders in the shins and the final Javelin that lands hit Cril square in between his shoulder blades.

Chelonia's blessing, however, had bad timing for Anders as he launched a bolt of fire from the end of this staff at the same time the light changed the bolt going high crashing into the ceiling of the tunnel. Cril without a ranged weapon or reach weapon is stuck in the middle frustrated and unable to attack the goblins.

Saying the word, the green glow flows form the necklace to the sword in his hand, giving it a light green sheen in the darkness.  "Um, ok..." Fenrick smiles to himself before steadying himself to attack the giant ogre which now stands before him.

Wanting to further protect her allies, Chelonia focuses on her Tortle shell.  It previously belonged to a very old and holy Tortle who had recently died.  It had been bestowed upon her during the ceremony that had seen her promoted from being a mere acolyte of the Tortle holy order to a that of a full fledged cleric.  As she focused on the shell it began to glow a deep green, and that glow quickly spread out around her in a thirty foot radius.

She spoke: "Stay within the green glow if you can, friends."
quote:
As an action, you present your holy symbol, and a sphere of twilight emanates from you. The sphere is centered on you, has a 30-foot radius, and is filled with
dim light. The sphere moves with you, and it lasts for 1 minute or until you are incapacitated or die. Whenever a creature (including you) ends its turn in the

Re: (IC) Fenricks Trail into the Caves

In response to the brutal fist-pounding the Ogre did to Gryphon, his bolt launched and embedded itself into the throat of the great Ogre, his second shot missing aiming for its skull, but going wide right. Fenrick quickly takes advantage of the wounded giant slashing and stabbing at its massive gut, as the wounds of the stabs turn green the veins purple and green and begin to fester. Lago takes out another Goblin with her quick slashes, however, the second lucky goblin is able to deflect her second attack. (Sorry you don't have an advantage, you had the sneak attack not advantage no one is flanking for you.) A brilliant sphere engulfs the area all of the adventures are in it centered on Chelonia.

The Ogre angry and furious at the attacks swings his mighty fist missing both Gryphon and Fenrick spinning slightly around his fist connects with a Goblin to his right splattering its body against the wall. (He rolled a 1 critical miss, had some fun with it)

The two goblins attack Lago took courage at the deflected attack, one of the swords getting passed his defenses, the other one deflected.

Again another volley of Javelins launches into the gathered group of adventures, this time with devastating results. Two missiles clatter off the ceiling. One catches Anders in the shoulder sending waves of pain down his arm. Another shatters against the Tortle's shell, however, another finds a weak spot stabbing into her leg. Again one strike Cril in his leg a final projectile catches Lago unaware in her lower glute.

Anders in anger burns and crisps a goblin, however, it remains standing.

Cril leaps forward finding a weak spot and opening stabbing at the Ogre. His longsword empowered by divine energy making a mighty arch opening the Ogre up from belly button to nose, its body falling to the ground in a heap of flesh.

"Nice work, halfling", Fenrick grins at his companion for taking down the ogre.

He quickly looks back, seeing that the group has the back more or less under control, and so moves forward to attack the group of goblins that are past the ogre.

As he reaches a goblin, he takes a swing at it, connecting solidly and splattering goblin guts everywhere.

Anders felt some kind of...energy, a life force, enter him and shelter him from the damage the second crossbow bolt that skimmed him would have created. He frowned, not sure what had happened exactly, except that Chelonia was responsible. He felt like he was wrapped in a cold blanket that gave him just a bit more vitality.

"the darkness protects me?" He asked under his breath. Then he shook off the confusion and tried to concentrate on killing off the goblin intent on killing him, "Fulmine Ignis!", but his bolt of fire seemed a bit weaker than last time, if more accurately fired. He let out a small sigh.

Seeing Anders take a javelin to the shoulder, Chelonia pulled an unnaturally black crystal from her pouch.  It almost seemed to suck light into it, that's how black it was.  She focused upon the energy of the crystal and then in an instant sent that energy into Anders.  For the man it was as if time somehow reversed for but a fraction of a moment, back to just before the javelin struck him.  He could feel that black energy around him bolstering his defenses, making him in that instant more agile.  Hopefully it would be enough to allow the man to evade the incoming missile.

Re: (IC) Fenricks Trail into the Caves

The Javelin that would have hit Lago is deflected by a nimb twist of her wrist her sword sending it harmlessly away. From the Black orb, Chelonia channels her power shattering the javelin missile which would have hit Anders. Guts splatter as Fenrick kills another goblin, two quick swings from Lago both find air, one arrow from Gryphon takes another goblin square in the chest ending its life, his second bolt flying just by the head of a second goblin that got lucky. Chelonia swings and misses with her Warhammer.

One goblin finds a weakness in Chelonia's defenses after opening herself from her attack striking her upper inner bicep, Green energy taking some of the damage, however, the strike still draws a line of blood in her flesh. The second goblin swings and Lago deflects and repositions for her next barrage of attacks. The Five Goblins play games out of javelins they attack, disengage and move to allow all five a swing at Fenrick and Cril. Three shortsword attacks are blocked by Fenrick, one attack is blocked by Cril the second finds a weakness luckily the green energy in the area absorbing the damage.

Anders Frys another Goblin with his firebolt, and Cril swings a backhanded arch and misses his intended target.

Angered slightly by her previous failed attacks she came on strong with a swinging high arch that came down upon the closer goblin severing the creature in two from its head down to its abdomen. Blood sprayed up into her eyes causing the next blow upon the last of the goblins directly in her path to not have the strength behind it to finish it off but with a slice across its chest she did strike a significant wound.  She moved to the side to allow Chelonia the space she might need to finish the creature off, but not far enough that it could easily pass her to the Tortle.

Anders gave a nod to Chelonia. He then narrowed his eyes and focused on one of the goblins closest to her, knowing the value of keeping alive the tortle who was not only their leader but a cleric - though a cleric the likes of which he'd never seen.

He gestured and pointed again with his staff, relying heavily on the one spell thus far. "Fulmine Ignis!" Another bolt of fire outward from the staff, but being leery of hitting the tortle, he erred too much on the side of caution and missed.

So sorry...today turned into a write off game-wise.  I spent the whole day working online on a project with my father...then tonight I forgot was my weekly DnD game with my daughter and her friends via discord and roll20 (we'd had to cancel the last few weeks so I'd forgotten about it) we just finished.

I have to be up for 5am as I have to drive nearly an hour to get to work and will need a good half hour to convince myself to get out of bed.

Sorry for the crappy post, but it's an action and will move things along as I won't have a chance to post again until at least tomorrow afternoon if I'm not given overtime.

Re: (IC) Fenricks Trail into the Caves

In quick succession two goblins die from Lago's blades, Chelonia's Warhammer falls short, thankfully the Lago takes out the last two goblins on their side. Fenrick cleves another goblin and two bolts swiftly take two more. Five Goblins dead in a series of flashing metal and projectiles. Cril's Longsword Slices through the last Goblin as a bolt of fire slams into the wall from Anders staff.

All fifteen bodies of Goblins, two hobgoblins, and one Ogre lay dead a pile of smelling metal lingering in the air from the blood.

End of Combat

Silence fills the caverns, only heavy breathing from those around you can be heard. You recall that one of the hobgoblins had Bardari's body, now covered by dead bodies.

Anders looked over the bodies a bit with mild interest. Some of the bodies wouldn't be raise-able, but most could at least be made into skeletons. The ogre and the hobgoblins would obviously be the prizes in the lot. He sized them up as he waited for the others to be ready to continue on, not letting the little fact of the matter that he didn't currently have the capability to raise any dead yet stand in the way.

He hummed a quiet tune as he moved slowly through the room.

After the group had said they farewells in their own way to their fallen companion, Fenrick approached them.

“I know this won’t bring your friend back, but I’ve piled up what I was able to find on the dead bodies.”    He points to the pile and lists off what he found (OOC see loot post)  “I figured it would be ok if I used the longsword and shield and returned the shortsword I borrowed.  I’d love to keep the chainmail to sell later, but it’s pretty heavy and bulky to lug around.  I’m not great with a bow, but I can use it if necessary, though I didn’t find any arrows.  Since I have no way of carrying anything, you’ll have to figure out someone to carry what everyone wants to keep”.

Fenrick then became visibly uncomfortable; you could tell he wanted to bring somethign up but was hesitant and wasn’t sure how.  When he finally started talking, you could tell he was still unsure, “And as much as I hate to bring this up, and by no means intend to dishonor or diminish your friend, I wonder if he possibly has anything that could aid us in finding your friend...”   He kinda trailed off, expecting the Tortal leader of the group to verbally chastise him for even having the thought.

I'm guessing Anders light the torch? Otherwise those with no darkvision are currently unable to see

Re: (IC) Fenricks Trail into the Caves

After the battle, Anders had recovered his torch and held it handy. As soon as the gift of darkvision from Chelonia ended, he had methodically and calmly stopped what he was doing and re-lit the torch once more. "Hrhm. Ah, there we go."

He then stepped towards where the ogre had come from. "Perhaps we should check this way out first to ensure there are no more threats coming from this previously hidden direction before we move on?"

OOC: Anders would have had to light the torch right after your gift of darkvision ran out, so I put it in to this post, but it happened earlier. My mistake.

Re: (IC) Fenricks Trail into the Caves

Turning the corner entering the room the six goblins came out of and the Ogre you all find yourselves in what could be considered the guard chambers a fire in the center is roasting a stick of meat. Six beds, animal hides on top of withered leaves circle the area. On the North wall a door, made of rock is open, if closed it could be considered a “secret” door.

The food in the chamber is surprisingly fresh, but warm and probably still not safe to eat. A cauldron resting next to the fire holds a liquid, a thick fermented drink of some kind. Makeshift and rusty weapons can be found by the beds, and “armor” can be found in various stages of repair, though nothing of value.

To the west a long tunnel leads you deeper into the complex.

Stepping into the Ogres chambers you see the massive beast has created a nice place for him self. A tall large raised bed of hides and straw, a natural spring for clean water to drink and bath in, his own entrance into his cave multiple barrels of ale, mead, and wine a few barrels open. And finally a large bag of gold sit on is bed. Who knows what other treasure could be hiding in his chamber.

OOC

I will update the map as soon as I can. Various checks can be called out if desired.

Re: (IC) Fenricks Trail into the Caves

While exploring the Ogre's cave you find there is one "Trap" a thick Hemp rope spans the entrance from outside, if tripped a spiked heavy log would fall and swing into the entrance hitting anyone stupid enough not to see the rope. A crude trap, however effective if dump enough to get hit. It is easily disarmed if desired.

The barrels of ale, wine, and mead are all of high quality and still good. Each is stamped with the crest of a Guild. On top of one barrel is an interesting ceramic jug able to hold a gallon of liquid and weighs 12 pounds. Sloshing sounds can be heard from within the jug when it is shaken, there are ten corked holes in the jug each of a different color; dark green, green, brown, yellow, white, black, orange, light blue, dark blue, red, the topmost being the biggest of the holes and a light blue around the neck.

Other than the bag of Gold a bag of silver, copper, and the second bag of gold is found each heavy with its metals.

In a pile by his bed under some old bones three scrolls with arcane writing written on them are found, a vial that looks empty, but when gently swirled a sloshing sound can be heard, two other vials with a reddish liquid, a ring of handsome workmanship, and a masterfully crafted sword, but the blade at about half its length is broken off.

Other than that his cave is only rotten carcasses and old hides.

Walking down the hall Lago sees two more cells similar designs to the one Fenrick was kept in, nothing is found inside them. A branching path leads her deeper, dancing firelight can be seen off the rock and chattering from the same language she has already heard is coming from this room.

Lago looked at Fenrick a moment when he rolls out his plan and doesn't mention her and suggests that she, a Ninja, should remain back and fight from safety.  She could feel anger rising.  Mindfully she reminded herself that humans perceived their women as weak and fragile.  Perhaps they mistakenly had similar assumptions about females of all species.

Then Fenrick commented
Fenrick (Fen) Uther:

With that she turned and sprinted down the tunnel saying over her shoulder, I'll either be back soon with a description of the lay out and exact numbers or I'll have a horde of goblins chasing me.

Closing in on the area the goblins were chatting around a fire she snuck along the tunnel trying to get a better description of the room and its inhabitants.

Re: (IC) Fenricks Trail into the Caves

Knowing Lago as she did, the Tortle was fairly confident that the fiery hairfolk had taken exception to being left out of Fennrick's assault plan aside from remaining back and attacking from a position of relative safety.  She would have taken that as a direct assault upon her gender.

It was known to the cleric that many races, humans included, saw females as inferior physical specimens but among others, such as her own and that of Lago's, women were seen as equals in all things, including combat.

The woman-warrior was definitely not the 'stay back in relative safety' kind.  Chelonia wasn't either, but she understood that someone needed to remain back and as the one with the ability to heal the injured, that role usually fell to her but it would be a mistake to think that she too couldn't hold her own in the front line of battle.

For now her concern went to Lago who had forged ahead to prove her worth.  She was a stealthy and crafty woman and her concern at this point was only mild.  To the rest she said: "For now we await her return, but be prepared for battle in the event that she is overconfident in her skills this day."

Fenrick was surprised, and confused, when the one the Tortle had called "Lago" looked at him specifically when relaying the information regarding the goblins.  Now was not the time to worry about it though.

As for the goblins, Fenrick was torn.  Young goblins turn into adult goblins, who generally try to kill people like Fenrick.  On the other hand, in good conscience Fenrick could not kill defenseless people who had not provoked him to defend himself.

Once Lago started speaking to the marksman, he decided to stay quiet but ready for now; he could make his opinions known if they needed to be.

He also started to check the way they had come into the ogre's room, just in case someone had tried to sneak around behind them.

Chelonia observed the dejection upon Anders face at her pointing out that concessions would need to be made for those unable to see in the dark, should lighting on the other side of the door that Lago described not be present.  Her instinct was to coddle him and assuage his damaged self esteem, but he was a grown man, not a child.  If he could not handle the fact that he, like everyone else in this world had weaknesses, well...he was in for a rude awakening.  The things that they found down here would not coddle him for his lack of vision, but rather will use that weakness against him.  The sooner he came to terms with and accepted this weakness, the sooner he would think about taking steps to remedy it rather than mope about it.

It was then that Lago piped up and confirmed that there was light visible on the other side of the door.  She would mull over whether she would need to have a chat with the man when time permitted.

Anders gave a nod and smiled, moving to the bottom of the stairs before putting out the torch without pause. He waved the remnants of smoke away and then stowed back in his pack. He took a deep breath, "Ready." He said it out loud, but quietly, since there wasn't light in their current room really. He waited for others to proceed him since he didn't want to be first in the door.

Lago was closest to the door.  Slight of Hands roll = 22 She slid the thin blade of her short sword through the thin space between the door and the wall and ever so gently lifted the bar up and out of place then gently balanced it upon the blades thin edge and silently placed it on the floor.

Readying both swords she whispers, Bar gone... 3... 2... 1... And she thrust the door open and prepared to rush into the room.  Light filled the stair well as the door opened.

Opening the door wide and quick the companions rush the room, finding another similar sized room, a large fire in the center with bed on the outer walls. Seven Goblins stand up shocked at the intruders, all unarmed, five goblin women look worried their eyes quickly dart to the three goblin children running around playing. At the back of the room, two hobgoblins armed with longswords and shields are also shocked, behind the hobgoblins is another wooden door leading out of the common room.

"Crap.", Fenrick thought to himself. "The women and children are in the way, and the male goblins pose no immediate threat.  If we let them live, though, they'll warn the others."

Fenrick quickly looked around to see if the goblins would be able to arm themselves.

Despite the precarious situation, the hobgoblins were the most immediate threat and armed, and closest to the other door, so he decided to attack the closest one to him (OOC Assuming that won't incur any opportunity attacks.  If it would, Fenrick will then try to knock out the closest goblin to him that doesn't invoke an AOO)

Realizing that this could quickly turn into a bloodbath, Chelonia takes a step forward, draws a white stone (Howlite) from her pouch and holds it in her left hand. With her right she makes some arcane gestures.  Finally she utters the word "somnum parvulis".  A soft white energy emanates from the stone and that soft energy moves toward the goblins, wrapping as many as she possibly can in it.  she is hoping that it will at least allow the children to be spared.

Fenrick chuckled quietly to himself at the Tortle’s “holier than thou” comment.  Yah, he thought to himself, easy for you to say, keeping your hands clean in your ivory tower while the rest of us stick our necks in danger. He hadn’t been this annoyed with a “commander” since back in his military days, and that didn’t end well.

However, more out of spite than any sort of honor (though that was a part of it as well) he declined to kill the sleeping goblins, stewing several paces behind and watching the rear, trying to mask his irritation as best he could lest he do something he would later regret.

OOC Edited to clarify it was thought and not spoken.  Sorry, I wasn't away italics were the correct convention for thoughts.

Chelonia could see the man trying to hold back some hateful statement of indignation, likely accusing her of being some saintly prude willing to let others do the dirty work of killing the remaining goblins.  He was entitled to his thoughts, if that's what they were.  She knew the truth of her intentions as well as her convictions.  There was no way she could, in good conscience, kill defenseless women and children while they sleep...nor could she stomach waking them up just so that they could see the stone cold, murderous eyes of their executioner before they died?

you can still color your text...just italics like you've done...and no "", some us single 'quotes' to put around thought text...which works too.

Exiting the Door on the other side of the room (Room 23) leaving the sleeping goblins behind the group finds themselves traveling down along cavern until it branches one headed south the other continuing a northeastward direction.

(room 24 slightly discovered) Following the branching path, the group finds themselves in a torture chamber. In the chamber, you all find a Harefolk and two dwarves chained and tortured gruesomely

(Exit F) Going back down the hallway there is another exit leading outside, 20 feet higher than the ground where you all entered. As you all look out a slender path leads around the ravine to another entrance, as well as a steep slender trail leading up to the next level, and another entrance. (another map will be provided to show where these paths lead)

(room 25 undiscovered) Headed directly north of the exit a pathway leads up, goblin chatter can be heard as you follow the tunnel upward.

(Room 26 undiscovered) Going up the North West path away from the exit chattering from hobgoblins can be heard.

OOC:
I have given the group many locations to look into. Checks and questions will still need to be asked for to gain insight and information. The group can certainly split up and check multiple things, just remember if something terrible happens, you don't want to find yourselves out of position.

He didn't want to start an argument, but was getting a little tired of her opinions being thrust at them all as a 'leadership' style. They would never be friends, but so far at least they could work together, and he was content to leave it at that.

He gave a shrug. "You are correct. I neglected to mention the fourth path. That is an option if we wish to avoid entanglements." So much pacifism or avid avoidance of conflict for an adventuring party, it was unusual to say the least, from the books he'd read. But perhaps they had been exaggerated or romanticized for more enjoyable reading.

Yes Anders, I will go and check to see if the lives in that room are within my power to save or if they have already departed to be with their gods.  Please, maintain a watch to ensure we are not set upon while investigating within.  If they are alive, we will need to re-evaluate our plans but for now, should they not be, I agree that removing the threat of hobgoblins is the best course of action at this point...even direct goblin threats for that matter.  I have no qualms about vanquishing those raising weapons against us...I am sorry if my disdain for murdering the unarmed and relatively defenseless is found to be offensive.  Understand that I have dedicated my life to my god, and I must live by his tenants.  To an acolyte, it is our belief that we are held accountable at the end of our days by a higher power...and I am constantly wary of how I will be judged by my god when that time comes.

Lago, will you accompany me?"

She proceeds to the torture room without looking to see if she would follow...they shared a deep friendship.  Lago would never allow her to enter into a place of potential threat without being at her side...just as she would not allow her to do the same...except for those times where she ran off to do so on her own...there was no way for the tortle to catch up with the fast harefolk, even if she tried.

Re: (IC) Fenricks Trail into the Caves

Anders rolled his eyes behind the Tortle's back. She didn't need to keep clarifying and/or bringing up the defenseless killing subject. Letting it drop would likely be best for everyone, at least as far as he was concerned. That was what Anders was going to, just not bring it up again unless it was absolutely necessary. They all knew where they stood know probably.

He walked in to the torture room along with them, however, and began slowly looking around and examining things.

Re: (IC) Fenricks Trail into the Caves

As Fenrick had been lost in his own thoughts, he realized that the people in the torture room could've been part of the team that Olkym had brought with them.

He decided to follow the others to see if he recognized any of them.

Re: (IC) Fenricks Trail into the Caves

The scene as you enter the room is nightmares becoming reality. The walls and floors are not the dirt of the other rooms, instead, this one is lined with black stones tightly and neatly set. It doesn't take a professional as you all enter the room to realize there is no way that either of the three bodies could still be alive. The bodies are laid on workbench side by side, dangling from the ceiling are various chains and tools. As you all take in the horrific imagines and begin to imagine the grotesque actions that took place. What really happened in here becomes more clear, more than a torture room, experiments were done on the bodies, limbs were detached, organs removed, and attempts to transplant them on the other bodies is clear.

Fenrick, you instantly recognize the three Betony another Harefolk a trusted ally on your previous expedition. Yagnaer Whitbraid a powerful, strong-headed laborer who used to have a quick smile and lighthearted laugh. Lastly, Dareron Kragdelver another hired mercenary you fought shield to shield with against the denizens of the forest.

Chelonia, looking at the wounds you notice the way they were patched and mended and how the blood congealed and the number of clotting tells you the limbs, body parts, and even organs were taken while the victims were still alive. The bloody work of transplanting and dissection seems the work of trained, "professional" hands. This was practice you realize, the bodies used like clinical cadavers.

Lago, you recognize the Harefolk. Not someone you new extremely well, but her face is familiar, a fellow disciple.

Anders, confident in the expertise of the Tortle to examine the bodies, you begin to look around the room. Its... clean. Strange, that from what you know of Goblinoids, and Gnolls cleanliness is not something they are known for. In the corner a workbench with miscellaneous tools saws, sutures, knives of various sizes and shapes, thread with needles, and syringes. All neatly arranged and organized by size, shape, and type. Each polished to a brilliant silver shine. Jars on a shelf preserve and contain various organs and necromantic spell components.

The work performed in this room is dark and evil, the air and very energy in the room have the feel of evil. For the first time, you all understand what the physical form of evil would be.

Gryphon, nothing happens in the hallway as you keep watch.

OOC:
All those in the torture room give me a WIS save DC 13 and CON save DC 13.

On a failed WIS until you finish a long rest a madness has taken over your brain everything you see looks like a corpse, everything smells of death, and your thoughts are clouded with thoughts on no escape.

On a failed CON, you take 4 psychic damage as your body heaves over retching like your spirt is denying what is happening in the physical world.

Re: (IC) Fenricks Trail into the Caves

Fenrick saw the bodies of those he had known.  Whether it from seeing them treated like this, or the evil perpetrated in the room, something messed him up.

He started to think of his old battles, the death he had seen, but this was different, it was even more terrifying.  No matter how the battle was going, it just kept going.  As his thoughts turned towards the current situation, a pessimistic, almost claustrophobic wave of fear washed over him.

He had seen death before, he had relived some of the battles even, but now, the bodies were different, wrong.  Even those standing very much alive in front of him looked dead, rotting, incomplete.  He covered his face to hide the other members of the group from his eyes, their rotting corpse-like visages reminding him of the inevitability and futility of the situation.

And for the first time that he could remember, he could even smell it, and it was almost nauseating.  Whatever he did, he couldn't stop smelling it.  It was everywhere and nowhere, like the air had simply become death stenched.  Luckily, for now,  he was able to hold himself somewhat together, barely.

"Fight it,", he said quietly to himself, "you're stronger than this, fight it".  But it was easy to tell he wasn't winning this battle.

OOC Would've rather taken the psychic damage ha ha

Chelonia, her mind over taken by the sight, smell, and fear of death becomes very anxious.  Through chattering teeth she says:

"From the looks of the wounds and surgery performed on these bodies it is clear they were alive while all of this was done.  It's as if whoever did this was skilled.  This was definitely not the first time they'd done this.  It seems like it was merely practice for some future 'work'."

Lago took in the room.  She saw the tortured Harefolk.  She could not stop herself.  Turning to the side she threw up as waves of emotions twist her insides up.

Succeeded at WIS save.  Failed CON Save.  Takes 4 psychic damage.

Re: (IC) Fenricks Trail into the Caves

Anders began to slowly walk through the room, examining each area carefully before moving on - not touching anything, only looking with his eyes. The only sounds coming from him were his rhythmic breathing and the sound his staff made when he used it to help him walk along.

He frowned lightly and turned to look at his companions, head tilted to the side. "Fight...what, Fenrick?"

Just then Lago threw up. "Oh, dear. Yes, this is more than a bit gruesome, isn't it?" He didn't really sound like it was, though.

To Chelonia, though she was talking through clenched teeth for some reason, he nodded. "Agreed. The one who did was clearly disturbed and monstrous, regardless of race. Brilliant work, very organized, but horrible and evil. They must be stopped."

Re: (IC) Fenricks Trail into the Caves

The group that entered the torture chamber are all greatly affected by the scenes of grotesque cruelty and evil. Many affected Physcologicliy others hurting from their body's visibility rejecting what they see. Making their way back out to Gryphon, who stayed back, watching the hallway.

The group sets a well-exicuted trap for the 2 hobgoblins in the room just off the exit. (Room 26) Clearing the room, and setting up alarms and other ways to alert the group the team settles in for a hopefully restful break, a much-needed rest to recover themselves. A good break it was, each able to mentally prepare themselves, meditate, and get some well-deserved sleep. Interestingly enough, and luckily no Goblins stumble into the room, though angry chattering and conversations can be heard echoing down the hall. Those that speak Goblin are able to hear the Hobgoblins believe it's the Gnolls thinning their ranks to take over all of the caves. The female Goblins are dismissed, when they are told of tales of humans, tortles, and rabbits.

After eight hours of rest, the group gathers their things and heads off once again. Spells recovered and rememorized, wounds mended, and brains recovered from the awful experience. Those that sleep have dreams, different for each of you, the themes are all slightly the same you are running, a creature following you is laughing its teeth and claws always right at your neck. Though unlike other nights were this same dream has haunted you, this time it seems, less powerful, almost distant. (Fenrick you do not experience these dreams)

Remembering his experience when he was captured Fenrick tells the group he was taken outside for a few moments, going down a slope, then brought back inside. He suggests leaving through the exit and following the trail up may be the best way to find Chelonia's mentor.
