Stones, brush and wood, dumped into the aforementioned badger den. There wasn't much, just enough to build a firepit.

[OOC] Protect the Watchtower Builders

Adam, with Sai watching the shallow side of the hill, you should be (relatively) safe to search at least a few hundred yards downhill. As long as you stop before the trees get taller than goblins, you don't have much to worry about, as long as you don't stumble into a badger's den. If you spend an hour, you can canvass an area that size with little trouble. Drawing a map with the locations of the resources while keeping an eye on your surroundings will add 3 hours to the time it takes, but anyone who uses the map would get advantage on gathering them and be able to do it in half the time. Normally, a survival check to find and gather resources takes four hours, and you have to focus on one type (herbs, animals, etc.) Less time than that, or splitting your focus, drastically reduces the yields. Since you can make a note on a map without having to cover as much distance, you can pay attention to multiple types of resources, but copying the foreman's map (he'll let you borrow it now that he's not using it at the moment) is where a good chunk of that 3 hours comes from.

[OOC] Protect the Watchtower Builders

Which way is North on the map?

Also, how much room do I have to clear additional squares if I need them?

My original plan was to make a hut with a base dimension of 6 meters diameter (roughly 20 ft).

[OOC] Protect the Watchtower Builders

North is the top of the map.

You could clear up to an additional 15 feet in any direction but west. Any farther and you're building on a slope (Though it's only about 5 degrees going east, you could build it up a bit if you want to move farther that way, but it will take longer. If you don't mind being 5 feet from the watchtower, you don't need to clear any.

Of the areas south and east of the cleared area, are they higher or lower than that of the cleared area?  I'm mainly looking for a lower elevation.

[OOC] Protect the Watchtower Builders

You're at the top of the hill, so every direction is down. You can clear out 15 ft north, south, or east before you hit a slope. After that distance, the slope is too steep to the north or south for anything, but its shallow to the east.
