Re: Session 2

Lord Segliani shrivels and lays still.  It's a less dramatic death than his wife's, but a death nonetheless.  A real one, as far as you can tell.

Leilatha successfully regains both her feet and her sword.  She may even be at an advantage for the moment, as the ghouls are all focused on Lazarus.  The wizard has managed to get up to the chandelier, which is now swinging precariously (and you don't like the way that chain is creaking either).  One of them does manage to claw at the wizard's leg before he pulls it up out of reach.

Ghouls rolled 4 using 1d8.  Damage.

After making sure the vampire lays dead, Lucius turns towards the remaining foes. He charges at the ghouls and strikes, managing to nick one of the undead with the tip of his blade.

14:25, Today: Lucius rolled 2 using 1d10+1.  Damage.

14:23, Today: Lucius rolled 9 using 2d6+1.

Re: Session 2

"Aragh! Keep your claws to yourself, you no-good cadavers!" Lazarus hastily pulled himself even higher out of the ghouls' reach. The chandelier certainly wasn't safe, but it was safer than staying down below. At least his sturdy black boots were proving to be a wise purchase.

The wizard knew that if he could get himself fully atop the light fixture, maybe there would be more ways to use it to their advantage. Or at the very least, he could hold onto the chain if the rest of it fell down. He tried very hard not to think about what sorts of spiders might be living in the cobwebs of the chandelier as he climbed through its dusty frame. "Come get me you nasty gut-suckers!" he taunted the ghouls.

After armor, Lazarus took 3 damage. He is at 13/16.

For now Lazarus is just climbing to a better position. That way he will be in less danger if the chandelier breaks, and can potentially even start casting spells again.

Istvan, thanks to Lazarus and Leilatha, becomes aware of the Falling Chandelier danger, and he backs the heck up. He can whack any ghouls still moving with his new mace after gravity fulfills the latest aspect of its destiny...

...but Lazarus is still on top of the chandelier, which maybe doesn't affect you so much but is definitely inconvenient for him when it comes crashing down.  Not as inconvenient as it is for the two ghouls that are directly under it (just two left standing after that), but still not great.

Lazarus, roll DD+Dex.  If you fail you will take 1d6 damage from a combination of the fall itself and the rusty metal landing surface.  7-9 will still be 1 damage (no armor).  With any roll of 7 or better, you can choose to take damage as if you had rolled the next lower level of success, and in exchange bring down one additional ghoul.

Re: Session 2

When Lazarus spotted Leilatha going for the chandelier chain, he knew it would not end well for him. Still, it was a smart move on her part and Lazarus vowed to make the most of a bad situation. Instead of trying to lessen his fall, the wizard actually pushed off against the ceiling to help the chain break, then angled his glowing dagger toward his enemies below to use his momentum to his advantage.

The room went dark momentarily as his glowing blade entered a ghoul's skull. When he pulled it back out, Lazarus could see that only one ghoul was still moving after the crash. His own body had gotten pretty badly sliced up during the fall as well, but not nearly as bad as his enemies.

Lucius's first attack isn't enough to finish off the last ghoul, but with four of you and only one of it you can still make quick work of it.

And then it's over.  You stand in this very messy chamber, a little messy yourselves but not as bad as the opposition.  The two vampires that you met have been taken out, along with their servitors.  What now?

Re: Session 2

Lazarus stood over the bodies breathing heavily. Blood dripped from his glowing blade and down his wounded leg even as he surveyed the now-quiet battlefield. He exhaled loudly, then turned to his companions. "That... went better than I had dared hoped for." He turned toward Leilatha  and added, "Thanks in large part to you and your feathered friend. I am glad you showed up when you did, and would be more than happy to continue working together."

The wizard exhaled loudly again, then clasped his hands together. "Now, I suppose some healing is in order. I'll see what I can do with my skills before I wear myself out. Istvan, do you have some healing magic to share too? Lucius and Leilatha, do you two want to make certain that all of these undead are good and truly dead? I don't want any vampires popping back up while we try to rest. And I will need to rest after this. I am exhausted both mentally and physically."

He then went about the room and touched Lucius, Leilatha, and himself with his arcane healing until his mind was so exhausted that the nuances of his spell slipped from his mind.

"Some bats dared us to come here," Istvan remarks, looking around and studying the area carefully.

(18:10, Today: Istvan Vanoson rolled 11 using 2d6+2 ((6,3)).

When you closely study a situation or person, roll+Wis.

On a 10+, ask the GM 3 questions from the list below.
...take +1 forward when acting on the answers.

What happened here recently?
What is about to happen?
What should I be on the lookout for?
What here is useful or valuable to me?
Who’s really in control here?
What here is not what it appears to be?

Istvan is hoping to find:
--any traps that are here
--anything treasure-y
--anything else valuable
--anything that could make this area securable as a safe place to rest
--the bats (maybe the GM could NPC our druid into getting us closure on the bat bet now?)

Although he's not really going to feel safe until that cauldron upstairs is dealt with safely...)

Just the 5 - you can only absorb as much injury as was actually there

Leila inspects the bodies to make absolutely sure that none of them will get up again.  She is satisfied that they won't.

Istvan looks carefully around the room and the adjoining hallway.  The coffin room does not appear to have any more secrets to give up (or if it does, it's not giving them up to him).  Nothing in the hall immediately outside either, but then a moment of bravery and inspiration leads the cleric back to the fork that had brought you here.  In the darkness he can't see exactly what's down there, but it does look like there is something that will merit further exploration.  Of course, you'll need a way to get past those traps.  Maybe something in the room full of detritus and dead bodies can help with that?

Incidentally, while you are searching, you get a sense from that mace you found like it could potentially help in this situation.  You'll need to spend some time studying it before you figure out how though.

"Thank you," Lazarus said to Lucius after being fully healed. Then, adding on to what Istvan said, he addressed Leilatha's question.

"Yes, bats did indeed dare us to come here. But the main reason we agreed was so that we might have a safe place to rest after we rescued some slaves from Dreorus. Worshipers of Matyokol had hired goblins to kidnap people from Vorbund for slavery purposes, more or less, and now we are headed to Dreorus to investigate and probably free some slaves."

"All right, folks... we've got to rest. Should we do it here, or somewhere else? I have this feeling that my new mace could help us get to that other room down the way-- might even help with the trap or traps that way... but I'll need to study it while resting for a few hours first, so we might as well do that soon. After resting, maybe we can use the stuff in this room, too? Toss a dead body or a coffin lid that direction, see if it sets off any traps safely, say...? It looks to me like there's interesting stuff down that way...? Which makes sense, if THAT way is trapped, but THEY slept down HERE... Must be important stuff that way..."

"Sounds good to me," Lazarus agreed. "After all of that spellcasting I did today, I think I have a few insights to jot down in my spellbook that might lead to a breakthrough or two. And I wouldn't mind re-centering my mind too. It is feeling a bit... frazzled. Which is normal, but inconvenient. Especially when we are still in a dangerous locale."

The wizard looked around the room, then said, "I think we can make this room work as a resting spot. Especially if we make a light barricade with the coffin lids across the doorway. I don't especially like the idea of sleeping near these undead corpses, but we know this spot is secure, and there is only one entrance to keep an eye on."

Lucius knows well that anyone working inside the home of a vampire is either 1) there voluntarily, and thus presumably an ally of the undead, 2) a thrall under their control, or 3) a lesser vampire (or other undead minion) themselves.  Although he doesn't know which of these options is correct in this instance.

"That's... fine, I suppose..." Lazarus conceded reluctantly. He wasn't as eager to go looking for more trouble right away, but it did make a certain amount of sense to not let potential enemies have time to regroup. "I won't be able to use curative magic anymore though, so make sure you aren't relying on that as part of your strategy. My mind feels a bit muddled too, magically speaking, so hopefully my casting is not needed much in other ways either. I do have healing potions and some antitoxins though, so let me know if they become necessary." Still holding his glowing dagger, Lazarus moved toward the doorway. He was ready to follow the others out into the castle to search for any lingering evils.
