Re: The Basilisk Gate

Following the gaze of the tavern patrons I jump at the sight in the door way. Turning to Vig I ask what he knows about the others in our party and if the four entering are friend or foe.

Re: The Basilisk Gate

The gnome ask a question to his dwarven compatriot and then realizes that they have no description of the person they are suppose to find all they have to go on is a name Tarina. As he sits and contemplates this he hears several bits of conversation.

"I'll bet my last copper piece that those so-called refugees are advanced scouts for an army that's preparing to attack Baldur's Gate!"

"The Flaming Fist is decapitated. The captains have already started bickering over who should be in charge with Ulder Ravengard gone."

"With Ravengard out of the way, who'll be the next grand duke, I wonder? My money's on Thalamra Vanthampur. Practically born in the sewers, she was, and more vicious than a swarm of rats."

Re: The Basilisk Gate

Qrurr enters Elfsong and quickly surveys the room. Taking note of the manager's unease and the shiftless gaze of the other patrons, Qrurr responds for all to hear, "I intend no trouble nor do I welcome any."

Qrurr sits near Vigg and Captain Screwdriver Head. "I have little taste for goldhorder refreshments but am more than curious to see if this swill is half as palatable as you claim, Dwarf".

Re: The Basilisk Gate

Vigg watches the ripples of emotion wash over the room when the party arrives, noting any undue hostility or excessive interest. Then he signals to the unusual band and leans over toward Screw. "Well, you and I won't need to watch our behavior on this outing. We could wear brass bells and nothing else and nobody would look twice!"

When Qrurr arrives, Vigg gamely slings him a pint. "I've never brewed for your breed before, but I'll drink to your health and welcome your thoughts nonetheless. If it's not to your liking, I'll brew you a special batch if we survive this job. To us!" He sloshes most of his beer into his mouth, with a fair bit draining into his beard as well.

When the dragonborn arrive, Vigg leans back to take in the sight, then rounds up three more mugs. "And you lads... I'm sure you get this all the time, but are you kin? Or just travel together? At any rate, it's a rare sight. At least if our friend knew we were coming, she surely knows we're here!"

[OoC]: 23:19, Today: Vigg Hammerhand rolled 12 using 1d20+4. Perception. Anyone extra shady watching our crew?

Also, maybe some intros? I'd especially like to get the dragonborn straight from the start or I'll keep screwing it up. Is it two paladins and a wizard?

Taken off-guard by Vigg's enthusiastic hospitality, Qrurr cautiously sips from his stein. He makes a somewhat delighted chirp. "It's certainty no Nyanzaru tej, Dwarf, but it's far more refreshing than Kumis. I don't mind it."

Qrurr continues to drink and survey the room.

Re: The Basilisk Gate

The Dragon people and the bird man settle in at the table and have their share of the dwarves barrel. Things seem to go back to normal but there are many glances thrown at the table and other patrons just stare at the table. Murmurs start to make the rounds of the tavern. You can catch a bit of what is being said.

"Dragon cults."

"Someone is trying to oust the Flaming Fist."

Is this what brought about the destruction of Elturel."

Still you have no description of the individual you are supposed to meet just the name.

Upstairs lit lanterns hang from the rafters in this windowless room. Rugs cover the wooden floor and help dampen the noise from drunken patrons gathered around two large tables, eating and playing games of Baldur's Bones.

*murmurs to the group*

I've always found that landborns who are in debt for coin have far looser tongues.

*finishes stein and parades to the bone tables*

Re: The Basilisk Gate

The bird man goes upstairs and watches a round of the game Baulders Bones. He watches a round to see how it works.

Each player puts the agreed ante in the pot.

Each player rolls three dice. Play then proceeds clockwise around the table, with the host of the game going last.

On their turn, a player can choose to "stand" or "roll." If the player stands, the next player can take a turn. A player who rolls takes an additional die and rolls it. If the total of their dice exceeds 21, they "bust" and are out of the game. Otherwise they can keep rolling additional dice until they either stand or break.

After everyone has had a turn, the highest point total (excluding players who busted) wins the game and takes the pot.

Qrurr then moves to one of the tables. A few of the patrons look at the birdman and then three individuals in a row bust and leave. Leaving two players left at the table.

A human female and a male half elf. The half elf looks at the woman shrugs and then throws in an ante.

The half elf grabs the dice three dice and rolls. First off he rolls a 1 a 1 and 4. with a total or 6. Play next goes to the woman. She rolls a 2 a 3 and a 5. They both then look at Qrrur.

OOC: Roll three 6 sided dice. I use google to roll dice.

The Half Elf grabs another die and rolls it. It comes up a 6 for a total of 12. The Woman rolls another die as well. hers comes up a 3 for a total of 13. THey both look at Qrrur.

OOC: The built in roller algorithm really favors low rolls and combat was taking forever because it would take ten tries to get over a 13. Qrrur you can stand or roll. the goal is to get to 21 or be the closest.

Qrurr rolls a 3 for a total of 17 and makes a somewhat discouraged whistle.

He looks to the woman and says, "I'm in a tough spot. You appear to know how these bones roll. What would you play?"

Knowing that the game is winner takes all, Qrurr tries to deduce as much as possible from her response.
