[OOC] Strange Magick

The in-game question to Malkus to lead us to discussions about what kind of abilities you have that others should keep in mind. For example, if Malkus uses the Sentinel feat, that knowledge is good for the rest of us to have. If Elisar likes to cast Sleep, or some other controlling effects, that is also nice for us to know so that we can work better together. We don't need to share full spell lists or anything, I'm just talking about things we would need to know for better cohesion.

Wightvane is pretty heavily focused on melee combat and generally uses his spell slots for Reactions (Shield or Hellish Rebuke) and attacking with his Actions. His primary attack is Booming Blade, and he's not afraid to take an extra hit for the sake of hit and run tactics to generate additional damage on the targets.

Fair enough. My magic is mainly focused on supporting others, so Sleep to knock out opponents and I just learned Faerie Fire which will give PCs advantage in battle. I’m not really direct attack focused, though I do have some tricks up my sleeve.

[OOC] Strange Magick

Level 3, so no feats yet =/
I'm basically combat at this point, as I have decent AC, hps, attack, and damage. being a pali, my spell slots aren't locked in, but at this point I anticipate saving them mostly for heals. Otherwise, I mostly know buffing spells.

Conquest is my Oath, so crowd-control is a slight hobby of mine. Can't do much with it yet, just frightening (debuff), so disadvantage on attack rolls and ability checks & can't move closer to me. I'm a ways of from 7th level when I get my Aura.

Well met.

[OOC] Strange Magick

GM - to clarify the situation as people are posting in two threads...

I read it that we four are standing somewhere in the Fierce Hearts village, waiting for Izayah to arrive.

Meanwhile Izayah is in Hexia’s shop, and a couple of non-quest PCs have just showed up in the shop.

Does that sound about right, or are they on different timelines?

[OOC] Strange Magick

Yes the group is still currently waiting on Izayah in this thread. As for the timeline this thread is in the morning of in Hexia's tent where as the Hexia's Shop thread is still the previous morning. As far as I can tell Izayah is still in Hexia's Shop at this time in the previous morning where as Elisar, Enialis, and Malkus are no longer or not yet there. Since Wightvane stayed in the village in the night before he could still be in Hexia's Shop at this time as well if he would like otherwise he would be somewhere in the Fierce Heart village at this time, but if that is the case then there is no need for him to post in the Fierce Heart thread as it has already been established in this thread.

Oh god, I guess it's necessary cause those guys wanted to speak with Izayah in the first place but this might get confusing if a third unrelated party started appearing in Hexia's Shop. Should we wait until their done or should we continue onwards?

[OOC] Strange Magick

We might have to wait, but I doubt this will take very long. No third party will be joining in the confusion. I guarantee that. As for confusion this is very maintained and I think we can handle the improvising well enough. Any concerns are welcome to be voiced. We appreciate any ideas or suggestions. Should go rather smooth though depending on the curve balls the Players may throw at us.

Alright guys I need to know which of you are going first between Alban and Izayah, and Wightvane and Malkus. I leave it up to you to decide.

It doesn't really matter to me.

...is Alban really trying to attack, see through it if it's an illusion and try to find out how to turn off the fountain all in one turn? Lol. That's a lot.

In reply to Izayah Hamadrell (msg # 78):

Reading the posts, Izayah was ready and attacks without thinking (not being derogatory, just that as a warrior he reacted instantly as he naturally would), while Alban is considering his action so will be a moment behind.

Malkus is taking a defensive action at the same time as Wightvane is attacking, so they are concurrent and don’t affect each other.

If in doubt, go in the order they posted in...

I tested positive for covid this morning. For the most part it shouldn't have much impact on my presence in the game, but there are times that it drains all of my energy or it makes my brain so foggy I can't think straight, so it may slow me down from time to time. If at any point you're just waiting on me, assume I'm stab/shoot my way out of the situation.

Got a cold snap moving through here this weekend. going to have to winterize the house while I can.  Looks like Fall finally showed up with a bang.

I hope everyone's health keeps getting better.  Feeling run down all the time really sucks. Been there, done that.

Xmas was good, just me, my wife and two kids, plus my mother-in-law who came to stay for a few days. We were supposed to see my sister-in-laws family on Boxing Day but needed up doing that on FaceTime.

We had planned to escape to Devon to spend NY on the beach but we had to cancel due to lockdown regulations, so just a quiet NY at home for the four of us.

Did well present wise - got Gloomhaven and a new Larp sword and shield, so happy with that little haul.

Getting everyone their presents delivered in time for the event was a challenge.;}

No racial features can be seen out from under the hooded cloak that the figure is wearing.
There is a locked door to each cell placed at the front of it facing the door that lead into this room to begin with. There has been no definitive proof as to how the kobold and this figure ended up in their cells. There is no magical item crafting that requires kobold parts.

I like Elisar's suggestion a lot more than (any/all of us) taking her only to return in a week to keep looking. We're supposed to find the "what" and "why" of the warmth. The fountain seems obvious, but "dwarf magic" might not satisfy Hexia.

Then again, if it's just enchanted with a powerful spell that keeps this area frozen in time or something, there wouldn't be anything else to discover except what actual spell is being used.

I agree. We can spend some more time really researching every detail about the fountain itself. It's possible that the fountain and the kobold lair have nothing in common outside of their locations.

The lair has the possibility of treasure, I'm certainly up for fully exploring it whether that's now or later, but it may not be related to our goal at all.

The water is not flooding the hallway, but it is drenching the floor as it is only 5 inches deep. The force of the water coming from the box is what is making the ground difficult terrain. Alban, you can try to look into the box, but all you would see is water continually forcing it's way out. The door is wide open slammed against the other side of the box to which it could swing to. The water level is not rising, but maintaining.

Okay, I must confess to having missed the bit earlier about the clay coins. Where did we find them, how may did we find and where are they now?

They sound like a useful Get Out Of Jail Free card. If you're deep in doodoo then crumble to coin and magically disappear.

TBH I’m good alignment so loathe to kill this guy just for existing, so if I can persuade him to wander off to a different part of the forest and leave the locals alone then that would be great. If not, then finding his stash and killing him (purely to protect innocent civilians you understand) will be the order of the day.

If I could recruit him to the Smiths Gambit Civil Defence Force that would be some achievement, but I think somewhat unlikely.

Note to all - this is very much my plan that I am making up as I go, you are under no obligation to go along with it!

Maybe if we feed him we can use him as a bouncer in the tavern...!

Seriously though, do you think it is worth trying to get him to join the community in Smiths Gamibt? Maybe as some kind of guard to prevent bandits etc attacking travellers. We could pay him with shiny things and food, if he’s agreeable.

My kids just discovered the new Scoob! movie. They love it and have started watching the cartoons too. We resisted when they were younger as I thought they might be a bit scary, but now they are old enough to enjoy.

Alban, I am not trying to put you on the spot, you just have literally twice the INT I do. If you'd like to explain to Hexia about the fountain and the elemental plane of water, I'm happy to let you

If you'd rather not, I'm willing to handle it... Just keep your expectations at an appropriate level ;)

Erret Smith:
Smith's Gambit Needs You!
Under a painting of Erret Smith pointing as if to the viewer of the notice, is printed:

Adventurers!

The Rimewood is teeming with unknown threats and valuable secrets! I will pay a minimum of 25g to each member of a party who brings new information brought in that helps ensure the safety and prosperity of the town!

I will also pay 200g for each 1-day section of map a party fills in, to be split among the party as you choose.

Once we finish with Hexia, I think we also checked some of these boxes too =)
*Presence of Ogres?
*Orcs as allies, along with some more Goblins, and possible location of another Red Foot staging ground?
*We traveled three days north in our journey, so perhaps we opened some map sections?

Re: [OOC] Strange Magick

So team, two obvious options for our next mission.

1 - go find the lost hunting party.

2 - explore the dwarven ruins deeper.

Any preferences? We don’t have to all stick together, and it might be fun to mix up with other groups. Thoughts?

Re: [OOC] Strange Magick

In reply to Elisar Moonraven (msg # 457):

I believe there is a group (Carmen, Victor, Chelsie, Wendel) already looking for the missing hunters.

Personally, I'm interested in heading back to the ruins, although it may lack the NPC-sponsorship of an official mission. I don't know whether the DMs want to take on this kind of sandbox environment or not.

Regardless of all that, I need to get back to the Gambit in order to start some plans in motion.

As far as mixing with other groups, that's fine by me. I mean, after my initial patrol, two members disappeared altogether, and the other two stopped posting after Strange Magic started. Where I am going with that is each mission I've had has been with different people, so shuffling the group members isn't unusual from my perspective.

Aside from Brohm, I am not sure if anyone else is LFG.

Ah, I didn’t know that as the job is still listed as open.

I’ve done two missions so far, the first was with Wightvane and Izayah plus others who dropped out.

I’m happy with this group, four good players for me to interact with and a good balance of PCs. Curious to see where we go next. If the GMs are happy for us to explore the ruins further, even without a sponsor, then I’m up for it.

I agree; I feel we have a solid, fun, and diverse cast.

Also, while it isn't tactful to whisper out of earshot of friends, it's rude to discuss my business dealings with Alban in Hexia's shop too openly. On the off-chance I can avoid some back-and-forth portalling to utilize my credit, I find it prudent to hash out the details before we leave.

So ... Looks like Elisar wants to track that fellow down. Do any of you three have a job preference?  Even with the magic-bag-of-holding-redundancy plot-twist, the ruins still feel slightly more lucrative to me.
