Gaius isn't a fan of being surrounded by wolves. He tells his party

"Be safe, be smart, and we can make it through this"

He then pulls out his great sword, makes a prayer to Helm and it begins to glow and is ready to strike.

Gaelin darts into the wood and moments later appears back with Chompski, her spear dripping with blood.

OOC: Gaelin kills a wolf.

A wolf Jumps at Gaius. Its mouth looking for purchase they find none.

Another wolf breaks from the undergrowth and rushes at the parties right flank. It bites at Chompski missing him altogether.

One more wolf rushes Fenlen. However it too fails it's target.

Fenlen Centers himself and feels a bit more vitality in his body.

Gaius looks behind himself to find cover and when he begins to move that direction a wolf is upon him locking him in place. He then unleashes his massive weapon passing his hand over the blade and imbuing with holy might.

A Dire wolf closes on Gaius. Noticing the wolf next to Gaius the Dire wolf seems more confidant as it bits at him. The massive beast finds purchase and tears at Gauis's arm.

OOC: Gaius takes 10 points of Damage.

The other Dire wolf jumps at Fenlen. Tearing at his should as he lands next to him.

OOC: Fenlen takes 8 points of damage.

Chompski fire at the wolf that is charging him he scores a hit. Dog also attacks this wolf but misses it.

OOC: Chompski wounds the wolf at J12 for 10 points.

Reyna turns from the wolf tearing at Chompski and looks between both Dire wolves contemplating on books she has been fortunate enough to read. She knows that Dire wolfs are more agile and heartier than the smaller wolves. She also realizes that Wolves in general perform better in a pack.

OOC: Dire wolves gain advantage when another wolf is within 5 of the target.

"Try to help Gaius after you dispatch the pup.  I shall help my cousin."  Gaelin says before running off.

The last attack completely wipes away Fenlen's false life spell, so he draws his sword and attacks the wolf at L9.

Gaius quickly punches his blade and the edges look a bit sharper. With a smirk he swings at the smaller wolf(G9).

Dog makes a whimpering noise as he turns around to see the wolf take a chunk out of Gaius. He barrels towards the wolves and headbutts one.

Since I'm almost last, I'll give target priority if some are dead.

Gaelin Springs forward and drops one of the wolves then moves in behind one of the Dire Wolves.

Chompski is chomped at again but missed.

Gaius is struck by by a wolf that savages at his arms.

OOC: Gaius is struck for 7 points of damage.

Fewnlen lays into the Dire wolf before him drawing blood from the front of the creature.

OOC: Dire wolf takes 8 points of damage.

Gaius Swings his massive sword liberating the head from the smaller wolf next to him.

The Larger wolf next to Gaius savages at him but misses.

The Dire wolf next to Fenlen tries to make make a snack of him him ripping into his side.

Chompski brings down the wolf in front of him. Dog moves tot he Dire Wolf Facing Gaius and head butts the beast.

Reyna is about to loose a bolt at the wolf in front of her but it is dropped by a bolt and she shifts her attention to the Dire wolf in front of Gaius.

Gaelin struggles to maintain a good two-handed grip on the spear that is covered in blood.  As the dire wolf attacks Fenlen she lashes out with the spear and vicious kicks, aiming at hamstrings and knee joints.

Reyna a bit confused, "Did something happen, did I miss my first turn?"  She begins scratching her head and says "Oh hell no" She turns to the dire wolf between Fenlen and Gaelin, lifts her arms in the air and begins to build a orb that has bits of lightning spitting out of it then launches at the wolf with all her fury.

Fenlen winces at the bite and sucks air through his teeth. "I work through pain, Chompski!

He takes a deep breath to center himself before he approaches the massive wolf at M10, twirling his scimitar and holding his shield in front of him. Then, he strikes with a quick slash. Feeling the adrenaline rush from the vicious bite in his side, he rushes in, shield in front, to deliver another slash.

"Very well, I'll save these draughts for after." Chompski puts the flask back on his belt and takes aim at the head of the large wolf at G10.

Dog attempts to kick the dire wolf's shin while also making peculiar gestures towards the animal. Despite the limited nature of his gesticulating and vocal capability, the crew is fairly certain several of these gestures are meant as taunts and deriding comments about the dire wolf's parentage.

Gaelin becomes a blur as she lays into the Direwolf. New wounds open up in the beast as she presses the attack. The Dire Wolf seems dazed but maintains standing.

Fenlen Lunges forward with his blade piercing the chest and striking the beasts heart in it's dazed state. It then drops dead and breathes no more.

OOC: No Action Surge Used.

Gaius Brings his sword over his head in a large arc striking the beast in it's Body.

OOC: Dire Wolf take 12 points of damage.

The Dire Wolf in front of Gaius Savagely mauls the Holy Warrior in return for it's new wound on it's side.

Chompksi and Dog Finish off the large wolf with a combination of bolts and head butts.

You all breath and gather yourselves. Your Certain that the large Crow with the red eyes on Yonder tree is watching you. It then leaps into the air and flys East.

Gaelin remains in her fighting stance until no additional enemies are revealed.  She then sticks her spear in the ground and removes her hands one by one.  Struggling a little letting go as the blood has started to congeal and became sticky, and she watches the crow.  "Is the evil castle east of here by any chance?  Well, that went surprisingly well.  Last time we fought wolves I was holding my intestines from spilling out at the end."  She looks around at the group, and rushes over to the paladin.  "Chompski, I think he can use that assistance now."

Chompski grimaces as he gets a better view of the hole the dire wolf left in Gaius' side. "Oof my friend. How are you still standing? You holy knights are something else." He reaches into his pack and pulls out a small bottle. He pours some of the liquid out and begins to dress the wound. "This is gonna sting, but should stave off infection. Do you have any idea how dirty wolf and dog mouths are?!"

OOC:
Cure wounds: 1d8+4 = 6

Gaius' move is before Chompski so Gaius goes down with that last attack (I had 11 HP darn it!) so I'll make a death saving throw for the move. Then I'll come back up with 6hp after Chompski's turn.

"Thank you friend, but worry not as I can heal myself from here. At your next chance let's take down this foul wolf."

”You mean this one?” Gaelin asks as she lifts the dead dire wolf’s head. ”Or this one?”  She asks as she holds up the decapitated wolf head. ”Did you hit your head when you fell?  Wait, how many dead wolf heads am I holding up?  Who is the current ruler of Neverwinter?  What’s my last name?  Do you feel dizzy?  This happened a lot at the monastery. There was one acolyte that would drop his guard on purpose to get a hard whack to the head and use that as an excuse to ‘forget’ his chores.”  Gaelin inquires with some concern, before shifting to the story.

Gaius shakes his head and apologizes.

"Apologies Gaelin. As I fell and saw the wolf's fangs I did not see the end of the battle. I thank you all for the rescue. Might I suggest we find a place to rest?"

"Yes we can.  If you are able, Vallaki is not far and would make an excellent place to rest."  Gaelin says before dropping the wolf heads and retrieving her weapon.

Gaius touches his chest and his hand glows. Afterwards he nods

"Aye, I can do that"

OOC: Use lay on hands to regain 10 HP.

The group pulls themselves together and heads toward town. Some of them limp and some of them are splattered in blood. They are an interesting sight indeed but maybe not that far from the ordinary in this place.

The Old Svalich Road meanders into a valley watched over by dark, brooding mountains to the north and south. The woods recede, revealing a sullen mountain burg surrounded by a wooden palisade. Thick fog presses up against this wall, as though looking for a way inside, hoping to catch the town aslumber.



The dirt road ends at a set of sturdy iron gates with a pair of shadowy figures standing behind them. Planted in the ground and flanking the road outside the gates are a half-dozen pikes with wolves' heads impaled on them.



From behind the gates you here a voice say, "Oy, what you all doing here? This here be the town of Vallaki and we would be knowing your business coming here?"

Gaius replies

"We're adventurers who are looking for a place to rest our heads after a difficult battle. I see you've had your share of wolves as well. We just finished off a few of them ourselves not so far from here."
