"That was unexpected," Dei said.

Replaying what you saw you notice several things, first as far as you know the assassin hadn't shown any magical ability before, second when he cast the spell he didn't use any gestures or incantation it was as if he willed it into existence, thirdly as he cast the spell your arcane senses told you that the power was unstable.

Oskar had dashed into the main area of the watch station and was yelling at men to give chase.

Dei looked over at Danni.

"I know I owe ya an explanation, but that'll have to wait until we're somewhere private or at least more private than here."

Oskar looked back into the room "I think it best we get you both out of the district" he said gesturing two guards forward "at least till we can apprehended this man. These two will escort you wherever you need to go"

"Thank ya kindly, sir," Dei said.

"Where to?" One of the guardsmen asked Dei "I'd like to see my folks, but I'd probably not get a way for a while once I do" Danni said "Might be best to talk first"

"I mean, it's fine if they hear. They did hire me after all," Dei said.

Danni shrugged and laughed "Well don't say I didn't warn you. You're probably not going to get away either. They are going to insist on cooking you a meal"

Dei laughed.

"I suppose I've been fairly warned."

The guards escourt you to the Longfallow residence and there was an emotional and tearful reunion, before you are lead inside and sat down at the table as Ms Longfallow fused about supplying you with hot drinks and snack food "I'll feed you a proper meal soon enough dearie"

"Thank ya, mam," Dei said. "I guess I owe ya that explanation now. I'm sure my appearance an accent makes it clear I ain't from Sharn..."

Dei paused, unsure of how to proceed.

Ms Longfallow smiled "Don't worry  dearie we aren't either. We came from Cyre" she said placing another steaming drink down.

Danni looked at her and nodded reassuringly as well "That bastard acted like he knew you?" He said glancing at his mother as he cursed but she seemed to not hear.

"I'm actually from Droaam, I was fourteen and out playin' when there was Breeland soldiers in the area. I didn't know of course," Dei said. "The soldiers caught me and decided they'd take me back and sell me to a brothel, zoo or somethin'. In the mean time, I was a slave for the group. Cookin', cleain' and things like that. The captain kept me from the worst of it...when he was around, anyway. They also took part a one a my horns. After seven years and the war ended, the captain took me here and just released me. The guy that took ya was one a them."

As you spoke you could see the face of Ms Longfallow becoming more and more horrified, when you finished she moved over and hugged you "You poor dearie that is horrible and for it to happen at such a young age"

Danni looked concerned "I think you had better be careful, he escaped and he said something about others right?"

Dei hugged the gnome woman back.

"They'll have to find me. Not an easy thing in the city."

Danni nodded "True enough, but I do owe you. So if you ever need help, let me know. I do have some talents that could be useful"

"I've been workin' as a detective long enough to know a bartender's a good course of information," Dei said.

Danni nodded "Of course, but I was meaning I could watch your back., when you are investigating, as I think things may have got more dangerous for you"

"That is kind of ya, and I can pay ya, but are ya sure you want to quit the weird bar ya work at?" Dei asked.

Danni shrugged "I can get by okay, mom is better now" he said "And I can probably still do some shifts and keep my ear to the ground for you"

"Well, a case typically pays out ten to thirty gold," Dei said, a hand going up to touch her broken horn. "We'll have to figure out how to split it."

"Surething, be a pleasure to work with you" Danni said as his mother brought out plates and began serving the meal it was a thick looking stew with freshly baked bread" she put an extra serving on your plate "Eat up dearie you look all skin and bones"

"Ah, thank ya, ma'am," Dei said as she started to eat.

You spend a pleasant evening with the Longfallow family, night has fallen by the time you finish your meal.

"Thank ya so much for everything," Dei said. "But I really have to get going."
