Day 4: Prophecies

Present: Lady Chlora, Zhalis

Two sisters stalked through the woods in search of a wooden door, poorly covered in leaves. They had been given their assignment, to find and kill the Thayan necromancer who was said to be the leader of the Thayan mercenaries who were trying to threaten and control everyone in town in order to lay claim to the mine for themselves. These clutch sisters knew the general area of the secret entrance, but not the specifics, which had lead them to searching with no results for the last ten minutes.

Lucky for them, the trees overhead provided a fair amount of protection against the heavy rains, as the massive thunderstorm blew swiftly through the land. Water still fell everywhere, but the leaves and branches channeled much of it into numerous streams that fell from the high branches like so many tiny waterfalls. At the bases of trees water rushed down to erode the dirt at the base of its trunk causing pools to form and rapidly grow. Lighning fell from time to time, but mostly arced across the sky with a flash of light yet not actual strikes or accompanying thunder. When a strike did fall nearby, the crash of thunder was brutal, causing a painful ringing in your ears and the hair on your body to stand on end and a burnt smell to permeate the air nearby.

All of the forest floor, thanks to its thick canopy, was open mud covered only by the natural detritus from the trees and whatever wild animals dared to venture this close to a humanoid settlement. Sunlight barely reached this far into the trees, leaving only occasional small patches of grass or the growth of a new sapling to manage to take root. The whole area was muddy, some places worse than others. The mud was thick enough to make a bit of a squelching sound as you walked, and if you weren't careful you might slip a bit, but so far it had not become so bad that your boots were beginning to stick or for large clumps to cling to them while you walked. If the search took much longer however, you weren't sure how longer that would be the case.

You finally managed to spot the cellar door, about twenty yards away. It is tucked in with bushes on either side making it somewhat difficult to see, but the rain had washed away whatever leaves and things had been piled on to hide it.

Just as you recognize it as the door you sought, however, a figure stepped out, dressed in red and black robes and bits of golden jewelry. His head was bald and he wore no beard, but eerie tattoos covered his neck and chin, crawling up his cheeks as well. He had a dagger on his belt, a black staff in one hand, and lifted a deep sack filled with several things, including some weapons that stuck out from the top, which he hefted over one shoulder.

The man did not bother closing the doors as he stepped out, but as he stepped out, his eyes locked straight onto the two of you. He hesitated for only a moment before dropping the sack and using that hand to reach up and grasp a dark amulet at his throat. He spoke words in a language you did not understand, but laced with the power of magic as they were, understanding his intent was not so difficult.

Chlora and Zhalis, roll initiative. If you beat a 16, post your actions as well. If you do not beat the 16, or only match it, you can post your reaction and initiative, but wait to post actions or movement.

06:24, Today: Lady Chlora rolled 11 using 1d20+2.  Initiative.

"Well now that is most interesting is it not ?" She said from behind her veil.
Eyes flickering to the man coming forth from the hole in the ground.

"Men don't often come up from below like that."

When the necromancer seems to be casting a spell her eyes flicker about for cover and the trees nearby.

Day 4: Prophecies

[Language unknown: "Nesaro p adin aited, nt m lissal. Oftrta nceredugh se oselai i atimi,"] the Thayan pulled at the amulet, snapping the small chain, and held it out before him. The dark gem shattered in particles and dust, and he let the pieces that remained fall to the ground. As he did, the dust took shape - three individual shapes - in front of him.

The first that took form was that of a hound whose mouth had additional rows of teeth in place of lips or jowls. As the darkness of the storm and shadows of the trees played over the hound, he seemed to nearly disappear entirely until some bit of light touched him once more.

The second was a skeletal soldier wearing half-plate armor made of bone and shadow. In his hands was a longsword with a dull-gray blade that reflected no light.

Finally was a humanoid shape, but there was no variation in its form, no details to be made out, as though it was being of pure shadow and no other substance.

The Shadow Hound ran toward the sisters, but disappeared after only a few bounding strides... (there's a line on the map to show where the hound moved before he turned invisible)

The Skeletal Soldier stepped forward then stood and waived a mocking wave for Zhalis to come forward.

The Shadow Being glided closer, but stayed between the soldier and the necromancer. It reached out a hand toward Zhalis and an inky spray flew toward her, slapping into her shield. As the pureblood warrior glanced down, she saw the shadow formed barbs against the shield's surface, but as it found no purchase it turned to wisps of shadowy smoke and faded to nothing. (miss)

The soldier, beckoned to Zhalis, wanting her to close the gap between them. She grinned at him, before she cast a spell in his direction.

"I think I'm fine right here, thank you for the consideration."

Once again, Zhalis muttered something too low for him to hear and gestured, eldritch energy shooting out straight toward the soldier.

"Even more interesting."

She didn't like the looks of the shadowy ghostlike one at all. The skeleton she was sure her clutch sister could face. She called up a small ball of lightning (Chromatic Orb) and hurtled it at the blue bordered shadowy being. She then moved a distance taking cover by one of the trees.

Day 4: Prophecies - Round 2

Present: Lady Chlora, Zhalis

Zhalis cursed the skeletal warrior to weaken it's strength, but she refused to accept its offer of melee combat and fired a blast of eldritch energy at it. The Soldier intercepted the blast with the flat of his blade like it was nothing. (miss)

Lady Chlora conjured an orb of lightning and hurled it at the Shadow Being. The orb collided with the thing's body and the lightning arced out across the torso, but many of the arcs seemed to fizzle into the air instead. (Shadow Being takes 6 damage, Resistant to Lightning) She then sought the protection of a nearby tree, but as she moved she felt the hound's teeth bite at her right hip and the hound became visible once more (Lady Chlora takes 11 Piercing damage).
16:55, Today: Arthin Dol rolled 15,11 using d20+5,2d6+3.  Shadow Hound Bite - opportunity attack. – [roll=1644706509.22948.364942]

Khorth emerged from the tunnel, seeing the red cloak of a Thayan wizard directly in front of him. The paladin sought to take advantage of this situation and stab the Thayan leader before he was aware it was coming. At the last possible moment, the wizard turned a concerned eye toward the double-doors, as though something sounded off. His eye widened as he saw colors he did not expect, and he windmilled his arms as he leaned back to dodge the toothy blade. (miss)

THE STORM rages on, and lightning strikes down in the area, three separate bolts in rapid succession. The first strikes in the north, the second directly between Zhalis and the Shadow Hound, and the third far to the southeast. (Zhalis, Dex DC 13 w/ Advantage vs 6 Lightning damage. Success you take 3 damage. Failure you take 6 and have Disadvantage on attack rolls this round.)

The Necromancer recovered himself from dodging Khorth's attack and was consumed in a demonic figure of shadow that formed menacingly inf front of the paladin, then flew through the air like a sheet in the wind, to reform back into the shape of the necromancer some thirty feet away. He raised a clawed hand in Khorth's direction and a ragged, ghostly hand appeared near Khorth's heart, who was agile enough to dodge away before the claws found flesh, or worse. (miss) The necromancer snarled and then ran further south and west.

The Shadow Hound recoiled from being so near the lightning strike (Hound takes 6 Lightning). The flash of lightning seemed to have blinded him to Chlora's escape path, and the hound sought the easy target instead. The large beast bit at Zhalis, but colors still played across its vision too strongly for its aim to be true. (miss)

The Skeletal Soldier closed in on Zhalis, striking furiously with its longsword. The first strike came while she was still recovering from the flash of lightning, but that attack brought her back to the present and the soldier's blade met only her shield on both of its follow-up blows. (Zhalis takes 8 Slashing (hit AC 23), miss, miss)
17:23, Today: Arthin Dol rolled 23,8,16,7,15,6 using d20+5,d8+3,d20+5,d8+3,d20+5,d8+3.  Soldier attacks. – [roll=1644708187.26368.364942]

The Shadow Being shifted slightly and sent a shadowy blast at Khorth. He had dodged the necromancer's magical claw, but the shadow's ranged attack sank into scales and Khorth could feel stabs of pain into his flesh and a cold sensation flow through his veins, sapping his strength. (Khorth takes 13 Necrotic damage and suffers -3 Strength until a short or long rest. At 0 Str, you die.)

From the secret door, other figures began to emerge - A half-elven woman dressed in the colors of nature and wielding a scimitar. A halfling in foreign garb with a hooked axe in one hand. And finally, a black-scaled dragonborn with the emblem of Father of Dragons on display, holding a twin-bladed axe forming a wedged chopping pattern.

Ariadne came out of the tunnel, into the stormy night.   She looked around, seeing the magical creatures that the nearby Thayan must have either summoned, or was at least in cahoots with.

Having both the hound and skeleton directly on her was not ideal, but better Zhalis than her sister. Zhalis had undergone training for this very situation.

Drawing a special gift from her patron, Zhalis summoned a spectral tentacle in front of her, between the two monstrous creatures. Continuing to target the skeleton, the tentacle struck out at it, connecting with the undead.

Then, in very snake like fashion, her fangs grew longer, as if by magic and Zhalis bit one of the bones making up the undead, but was too slow to connect before the skeleton moved out of the way.

Day 4: Prophecies

Akyra emerged from the tunnel and took in the scene around her. She barked orders at Sakamoto, then placed a protective hand on Khorth's shoulder as she called on the blessings of Bahamut to protect him. She then raised Windfall to point toward the necromancer and invoked more of her magic to summon a weapon of her spiritual energy to strike him with. He seemed very well adapted to close combat, for a wizard, and he brought his staff up to block the attack. (miss)

Zhalis reached out to her patron, calling for its aid, and the smell of salt filled the air around her as spectral tentacle formed between her foes. The tentacle slammed into the skeletal soldier and left an icy impression where it had connected, dark energy coalescing as well from her hexing curse. If the warrior felt pain, he gave no indication. (Skeleton takes 2 necrotic damage and 4 Cold; Resistant to Cold) Embracing her own heritage then, large fangs protruded from Zhalis's mouth and she made to bite the skeletal warrior as well. This soldier showed he had not died to so easy a blow in life, and dodged it. (miss)

Lady Chlora learned from previous experience and that bone was a poor conductor of electricity, and wondered if perhaps a more concussive force would fare better. Another orb formed in front of her, and like shedding a layer of old skin, the orb pulled apart from itself to form its own likeness. She hurled the orbs toward her sister's assailants, and then darted around the nearby tree for more cover. The hound took the orb full in its back and let out a hollow howl, but the soldier showed his prowess once more as he cupped the orb with the blade of his sword and directed its path into a nearby tree. (Hound takes 15 Thunder, miss on the Soldier)

Sakamoto threw the hood of his cloak over his head and called for assistance as he rushed off stealthily toward the necromancer. A cloak of mist on a small body, in the middle of a rain storm, made for a nearly-invisible Sakamoto, who rushed off to follow Akyra's command. (Hidden DC 19)

Ariadne stepped out into the darkness of the storm and looked at the scene before her. Seeing the shadowy being attack Khorth, she knew her target and pounced. Flames appeared in her hand and spread out into the form of flaming scimitar, shedding light all around her, as she rushed forward and slashed. Flames cut into the shadow and licked up along its form, but the light of that fire did not (6 damage to Shadow Being; Resistant to Fire)

Khorth rushed after the necromancer, unconcerned with the shadowing being who stood in his path. Perhaps he should have been more concerned, as the the creature's claws drug through his scales as he did so, sending a new wave of necrotic energy throughout his body. (Khorth takes 10 necrotic damage and -2 Strength from an opportunity attack) Khorth certainly felt the loss of his strength now but he called out to the bother to bind this necromancer. The shadow being moved to rake its clawed hands right through Khorth's chest, but the protection of Bahamut held and the creature recoiled from the divine energy. (Shadow's OA missed) Roots sprung up all around the necromancer, trying to bind him in place, but he simply raised a hand and caused the roots to blacken and wither, then crumble into dust. (Dex 20, no effect)

THE STORM poured down rain, even harder than before, obscuring vision. Ranged attacks are now at Disadvantage on targets more than 30 feet away.

The Necromancer repeated his previous attack, sending a ghostly hand to claw at Khorth's life force, but once again the attack was unsuccessful. Day 4: Prophecies

Khorth stood amazed that the magic of the Mother could not stop the man, as he casually walked away. The shadow creature had turned it's attention to the druidess, wielding a fire sword and he saw that the cleric was also there. The two unknown females were busy and he considered going to the first one to help her out.

But the redcloak wizard had almost laughed at him and the Mother... for that, he needed to pay.

Planting his clawed feet in the ground, he started to run, as he called to the halfling.

Day 4: Prophecies

As the skeletal warrior maneuvered past Zhalis' defenses, striking her squarely in the ribs, she mumbled something under her breath and a mote of fire sprang up around it.

Reaction (Round 2): 14:57, Today: Zhalis rolled 23 using 3d10.  Hellish Rebuke.

Zhalis was definitely feeling the strikes from the skeleton, and used her early training as a soldier to combat against it. Zhalis, you've handled worse than this learning to fight, overcome!

Seeing her sister strike both enemies with her magic, helped embolden Zhalis to not flee for better positioning. Once again, her fangs came out, but this time her aim was true and the skeleton was unable to dodge as her teeth sunk into its dry bones.

Day 4: Prophecies

All ranged attacks over 30 feet are made at Disadvantage.
Every square on the map that is not light green in color, is now considered Difficult Terrain, requiring additional movement. Difficult Terrain includes all trees, bushes, logs, circular fire pit things, and the darker green squares. (I will move you as favorably as possible in all cases.)

Akyra faced off against the shadow, her shield up, and mentally adjusted the spectral axe to the shadow. As one, both she and the axe swung at the shadow. They struck in unison, and the shady being screamed with the pain of a thousand voices heard as if from the bottom of a well. (Shady Being takes 11 Force and 11 Magical Slashing)

Zhalis rebuked the skeletal soldier with a fiery wrath. (Soldier takes 23 Fire damage) She gathered her resolve, then  fangs came out once more, but this time her aim was true and the skeleton was unable to dodge as her teeth sunk into its dry bones. (Zhalis restores 11 HP with Second Wind, Soldier takes 6 Acid, 4 Necrotic)

Lady Chlora ducked out of cover, formed another pair of twin orbs - this time acidic - and both orbs found their mark, burning into shadowy flesh of the hound and dried bone of the skeletal soldier. The hound let out a roar of pure anger and hatred as the acid ate away at the substance of its shadowy form, then it puffed into nothing but black smoke, the remaining acid falling harmlessly to the ground. (11 damage to Soldier, 16 damage to Hound - Shadow Hound is dead)

Sakamoto rushed through through the forests, relying on his cloak, the rain, and the terrain to hide his movements and allow him to strike unnoticed. He attacked the necromancer from behind, striking a powerful blow with his kama. (The Necromancer takes 9 Slashing, 15 Sneak Attack damage) The Necromancer spun around and smacked Sakamoto across the face, causing a numbing sensation to wash over him. (Sakamoto takes 3 Cold damage and cannot take reactions until the end of his next turn)
23:10, Today: Arthin Dol rolled 20,3 using d20+7,2d8.  Numbing Strike, Cold, No Reactions. – [roll=1644815433.01921.364942]

Ariadne swung her fiery scimitar again, cutting deep. The flames did not burn this creatures as much as she wished they would, but they did burn enough. The flames of her scimitar flared across the shady being's body, incinerating it in an instant. (Shady Being takes 6 Fire damage, and is dead)  [Ariadne, you can include a move for this round at the start of your next post if you like, in addition to your normal move for that round.]

Legendary Reaction: The Necromancer called out, "Maurdreth, defend me!" The air around the Skeletal Soldier twisted around him in a pentagonal spiral, the Soldier disappeared, and Sakamoto heard footsteps sink into the mud behind him as the Soldier reappeared.

Khorth pursued the Necromancer, but could not land a blow with the necromancer's body full of adrenaline after Sakamoto's surprise attack. (miss)

THE STORM called down lightning once more, three bolts in rapid succession, and instantly the thunder cracked and shook the world around you. The rains continued to pour, harder than ever, and all was becoming mud. A tree was struck to the east, catching on fire, though with this much rain who knew how long the fire might last?
23:22, Today: Psynister rolled 24,19,6 using d30,d20,2d6.  Lightning Strike. – [roll=1644816151.91149.356976]

The Necromancer brought his staff forward and raised it into the air. Black necrotic energy exploded around him in a sphere, engulfing Khorth and Sakamoto. As the spell effect clears, the Necromancer appears somewhat recovered from Sakamoto's earlier attack and all manner of vegetation within ten feet of him are completely withered and rotted away. The tree that stood beside him was now a rotting husk. (Khorth and Sakamoto, make a Con Save DC 15, you take 12 damage on a failure, 6 on success) Once more the necromancer turned into a black sheet of smoke sailing through the air to the west (misty step). The mud was thick there, but he pushed through as best he could, must sticking to his feet. He raised a fist to the sky and shouted, "Damn you, Talos!"
23:40, Today: Arthin Dol rolled 12 using 3d6.  Wither and Bloom, Necrotic, Con DC 15/half. – [roll=1644817226.75158.364942]

The Shadow Hound is dead.

The Skeletal Soldier turned his sword now onto Sakamoto. The first slice caught him completely unaware and he felt the blade cut deeply across the backs of his legs. (Sakamoto takes 14 slashing damage - if you fail the necromancer's Con save, you are unconscious and can start rolling Death Saves)
00:04, Today: Arthin Dol rolled 3 using 1d8.  Crit Damage. – [roll=1644818699.45024.364942]

Day 4: Prophecies

The skeletal soldier disappeared from in front of Zhalis, and while she felt bad for the person now facing its attacks, she also felt relief. Keeping him in her sights, she once again felt the crackling energy from her patron ready to be released. Taking a breath to steady her aim, Zhalis released her spell, hitting the creature squarely in the chest.

"Come sister, let us show that necromancer how we like to play."

Zhalis began walking toward where the necromancer had last been seen, seeming to be moving at a leisurely pace, as if she wasn't currently in a fight for her life.

Grabbing the amulet with her shield hand, she again called for the platinum dragon to aide her. [Language unknown: "Setratund, eau m laer. Fiom trase notartich ie hi ivekorthi o pleen iou are era poelhe!"] She looks at the wizard and smiles.

even as she does, she reaches into her soul and begs bahamut to move the skeleton, the wind seemingly assisting in the endeavor.

Day 4: Prophecies

Ariadne smiled fiercely at the vile shadowy creature died upon her flaming scimitar and the might of Akyra.  Looking around, she could barely make out Khorth and, she suspected, Sakamoto, fighting another dark, shadowy being.  She ran as best she could through the bramble and the wet ground, to help her Traveling Companions.  She used her fiery weapon as much for light as for defense, as even this rainfall couldn't extinguish it.
To be honest, it went against every instinct she had as a druid, a hunter, a half elf, and a person with an ounce of brains, to be running around in a lightning storm, like some hapless child enjoying a gentle summer rain.
However, her friends needed her.  That was reason enough.

Pushing herself, she rushed the shadowy soldier, slashing with her burning weapon.

Every square on the map that is not light green in color, is now considered Difficult Terrain, requiring additional movement. Difficult Terrain includes all trees, bushes, logs, circular fire pit things, and the darker green squares. (I will move you as favorably as possible in all cases.)

Akyra grimaced at the situation, then in an unbridled display of athletics, leapt over a fair portion of the muddy terrain. Little bud stuck to her boots when she jumped, but when she landed she sand down nearly two inches. She grabbed her amulet with her shield hand, called for the platinum dragon to aide her once more, and smiled in the necromancer's direction. She fought to take steps, a slurping suction sound with every step as the mud tried to hold her in place, huge clumps of it sticking to her feet as she went, then she looked at the skeletal soldier and begged Bahamut to buffet the creature toward her; which he did. (Str save failed)
22:16, Today: Psynister, for the NPC Skeleton Soldier, rolled 10 using 1d20+3.  Strength Save. – [roll=1644984994.12731.356976]

Legendary Reaction: The necromancer snarled and raised a hand toward the cluster of enemies to his east and shouted, "..." Confusion crossed his face for but a moment, replaced immediately by rage. (silence causes his spell to fizzle)

Zhalis felt a moment of guilty relief as the soldier vanished from before her. With it still in her sight, however, she sent a blast of eldritch energy to slam square into the soldier's chest. Bits of bone flew off in response to the powerful hit and nearly dropped its blade - but black energy flowed around the bones, pulling the broken pieces back to it, and helping to maintain its grip on the blade. (Soldier takes 13 damage, but Undead Fortitude keeps it "alive") The ghostly tentacle she commanded then flowed through the mud toward the skeletal soldier.
22:20, Today: Psynister, for the NPC Skeleton Soldier, rolled 18 using 1d20+3.  Con Save. – [roll=1644985256.42453.356976]

Lady Chlora moved south in search of the necromancer, feeling confident that the skeletal soldier would soon fall to the others. She spotted her target, difficult though it was with the rain, and sent a jet of flame out toward him. Sheets of water proved an effective barrier to sight and she could not even tell what she did hit, but knew it was not the necromancer. (miss)

Sakamoto attacked the soldier with his kama, seeming to be a perfect hit, but the warrior caught the small blade with its longsword and deflected the weapon. (Soldier reaction, +3 AC) Sakamoto followed it up with a kick to the femur, landing a solid blow. (Solider takes 6 bludgeoning) The soldier seemed as if it were going to crumble, but the necromancer's magic fortified it once more, and the soldier fought on.
22:58, Today: Psynister, on behalf of Sakamoto, rolled 18 using 1d20+3.  Con Save. – [roll=1644987506.72467.357792]

Ariadne stuck to the driest part of the terrain she could see, then leapt over the wettest parts, following Akyra's lead. She slipped a bit as she landed, but she stayed on her feet and had slid the direct she was going anyway. Flaming sword in her hand, she ran toward the skeletal soldier as quickly as she could. (With the difficult terrain, Ariadne doesn't have enough movement to reach a target, but I got her as close as I could.)

Khorth continued to struggle against the skeletal soldier. Lights flashed all around as bolts of lighting landed throughout the wooded area *flash, flash-flash*. Time and time again, blade met blade, blade met shield, blade fell harmlessly on armor. The rumbling sound of thunder was constant, and louder than any of them had ever experienced before. Khorth was a skilled warrior, but others were succeeding where he was failing time and time and time again. It was like *flash-flash-flash* he was cursed, or something. (miss)

THE STORM shot three more bolts of lightning down in the immediate area, but fortunately none of them was close enough to do any harm.
23:12, Today: Psynister rolled 8,3,8 using d30,d20,2d6.  Lightning Strike. – [roll=1644988372.33273.356976]

The Necromancer trudged through the mud, moving away from his enemies, but more importantly away from the silencing spell that rendered all of his magics impotent. As he did so, he drew out a vial from his belt, downed its contents, and then smashed it soundlessly against the tree in front of him. As he stepped out of the spell's area of effect he laughed and turned to shout in your direction, "Did you seriously just cast a silencing spell centered on me? I had to actually consider if you were smart enough to cast it behind me so that I would move further into it while moving away from you, or if you were smart enough to realize than I would think you smart enough for such, and cast it closer to you so that countering the far throw I would thereby counter myself. Ha! Come now, lets play some more!"
22:47, Today: Arthin Dol rolled 18 using 4d4+4.  Greater Healing Potion. – [roll=1644986872.57058.364942]

The Skeletal Soldier continued to swing at Sakamoto. The first swing was high, the second swing too far to the left, but the third caught him right in the stomach. (Sakamoto takes 6 slashing damage and is unconscious.)
23:31, Today: Arthin Dol rolled 11,7,7,5,20,6 using d20+5,d8+3,d20+5,d8+3,d20+5,d8+3.  Soldier attacks. – [roll=1644989491.48661.364942]

Day 4: Prophecies

The druid ran towards the shadowy warrior.  She slipped and slid in the wet grass and muddy ground, but years of work as a hunter and tracker allowed the normally graceful half elf to keep on her feet, though not as stylishly as she'd have liked.
As she ran, she saw a magical attack come out of the night, to strike her target.
'Good,' she thought, 'hopefully that means they're allies'
She saw that the source of the magic was a reptilian woman.  Was she a Lizard Folk?  A Dragonborne?  Something else?   As long as she was a friend, it didn't matter, Ari supposed, though she was amused by how the mammals of the party were quickly becoming a minority.

And on the subject of her fellow mammal, she saw the halfling fall to the ground.  She winced, knowing that he was in dire need of healing.  However, trying to heal a fallen comrade while an enemy was swinging steel above ones head seemed ill advised.

Ariadne came to the side of the shadow man, swinging the flame blade.   Sadly, the unstable footing made her swing short.

Akyra held her hand up and a bolt of silver light flew from her hand, but missed her target. (miss)

Legendary Reaction: The necromancer pointed a hand toward the group, though it was hard to tell at who, exactly. [Language unknown: "Beles la sefole yinreaany, Maurdreth!"] The skeletal soldier took on a ghostly appearance and walked through Khorth's body, then solidified once more beside Akyra.

Zhalis held her ground, sending another blast of energy toward the skeleton and attacking it with the spectral tentacle as well. Neither attack managed to find its mark, unfortunately. (miss, miss)

Lady Chlora slogged her way through the thickening mud, staying back within the brush to try her best to remain hidden from the necromancer's view while she repositioned for a better strike. (Stealth 17)

Sakamoto struggled to hold onto life. (Death Saves 1 Pass: 0 Fail)

Legendary Reaction: The necromancer cackled as he saw Sakamoto fall, [Language unknown: "Ainasters lo evis liev, Maurdreth!"] Black flames licked up the Soldier's body, restoring some of the damage it had sustained.

Ariadne choose to attack the skeletal soldier rather than save the life of a friend, but the soldier battered her flaming blade aside with ease

Khorth taunted the skeletal soldier and laid a healing hand on Sakamoto's shoulder, sending a pulse of the Mother's healing magic into his body. Wounds closed and he gasped as his eyes shot open, then coughed as the falling rain hit the back of his throat. (Sakamoto heals for 6)

THE STORM continued to produce lightning. Strike-strike-strike! Strike-strike-strike! One of the bolts landed right beside the necromancer, sending a jolt of electricity into his body, and causing him to be somewhat disoriented. (Necromancer takes 11 lightning damage)

The Necromancer seemed addled by the lightning strike, and couldn't bring his legs to work properly. Still, he managed to summon more magic and a ghostly claw reached out for Khorth's heart. The paladin felt the cool touch of death as it reached in to snuff out his life, but The Mother's warmth kept it at bay. (miss)

The Skeletal Soldier raised its sword and attacked Akyra. Two blows in a row met armor, shield, and axe, but the third landed successfully. (Akyra takes 6 Slashing damage - Concentration save DC 10 on Silence)
21:13, Today: Arthin Dol rolled 10,9,16,4,19,6 using d20+5,d8+3,d20+5,d8+3,d20+5,d8+3.  Soldier attacks. – [roll=1645154008.54516.364942]

Every square on the map that is not light green in color, is now considered Difficult Terrain, requiring additional movement. Difficult Terrain includes all trees, bushes, logs, circular fire pit things, and the darker green squares. (I will move you as favorably as possible in all cases.)

Akyra swung her axe at the skeletal solider, but he still proved more than capable of defending himself. Her spiritual weapon finally got within range to swing as well, but it too failed to connect with the fallen warrior. (miss, miss)
22:37, Today: Psynister, on behalf of Akyra Clethtinthiallor, rolled 6,9 using d20+5,1d8+3 with rolls of 1,6.  Spiritual Weapon. – [roll=1645331845.91791.357236]
22:35, Today: Psynister, on behalf of Akyra Clethtinthiallor, rolled 10,7 using d20+5,2d4+3 with rolls of 5,3,1.  Attack. – [roll=1645331727.39314.357236]

Zhalis continued to assault the soldier with the spectral tentacle, yielding no results. With increased vigor, she throws another blast of Eldritch energy and it solidly connects, sending bits of broken bone flying from the devastating impact. (Soldier takes 19 damage) The necromancer's magic still holds strong, binding the shattered bones with necrotic energy. (Soldier crits on Undead Fortitude, and continues fighting)
22:39, Today: Psynister, for the NPC Skeleton Soldier, rolled 23 using 1d20+3.  Con Save. – [roll=1645331986.91787.356976]

Legendary Reaction: The necromancer strikes a Zhalis with the ghastly claw, reaching for her heart, but another spectral tentacle reaches out from her chest and bats it away. (Miss)

Lady Chlora continues to sneak across the battlefield, taking advantage of the storm for covering sights and sounds alike.

Sakamoto got to his feet and lashed out at the skeletal soldier with wild abandon, but could not find his mark. Even surrounded as the creature was, it managed to evade and parry attacks as though it saw from all angles. (miss, miss)

Ariadne breathed easy as Khorth brought Sakamoto back to the fight, and continued to swing her flaming blade at the skeleton, who continued to parry as if he were born to do this. (miss)

Khorth also took advantage of Sakamoto's waking state to turn his focus once more on the skeletal soldier. His blow was closest to finding its mark, but even the jagged-toothed blade was blocked by the skeletons own sword. (miss)

THE STORM sent more and more lightning down in the area. Three strikes here, three strikes there, three more further through the woods. Two of them struck near to the group, several members having to guard their eyes after the brightness.
22:51, Today: Psynister rolled 19,9,10 using d28,d20,2d6.  Lightning Strike. – [roll=1645332713.10243.356976]

The Necromancer summons another sphere of deadly necrotic energy on top of the skeletal soldier, attacking the very life essence from your bodies. Akyra, Ariadne, Khorth, Sakamoto all feel the pulse of terrible energy. (Nectotic damage: Akyra takes 11, Khorth takes 5, Ariadne takes 11, Sakamoto takes 11)
23:07, Today: Psynister, on behalf of Ariadne Greenthorn, rolled 3 using 1d20+2.  Con Save. – [roll=1645333658.78757.358194]
23:05, Today: Psynister, on behalf of Akyra Clethtinthiallor, rolled 2 using 1d20+1.  Con Save DC 15. – [roll=1645333517.02841.357236]

The spell draws out the renewed life that Khorth had bestowed upon Sakamoto and the halfling fell unconscious once again. (Sakamoto is unconscious and prone, roll a Death Save, but go ahead and include an action too in case someone heals you.)

The Skeletal Soldier seems to have been bolstered even more by that deathly spell, and continues to follow his orders to take out Akyra. The first strike is a glancing blow, but still connects. The second is more skilled, again striking true. The third, thankfully missed the mark as Windfall knocked it aside. (Akyra is hit twice for 4 + 6 Slashing)
23:12, Today: Arthin Dol rolled 20,4,20,6,7,6 using d20+5,d8+3,d20+5,d8+3,d20+5,d8+3.  Soldier attacks. – [roll=1645333926.80458.364942]

Akyra called out to her deity to turn the skeletal soldier away. Her symbol shined with a silvery light, but the black orbs within the soldier's eye sockets only grew more fierce as he held his ground. Still, the cleric sought to face off against the necromancer direction and moved off to meet him in combat. As she did so, the skeletal soldier gave her a slash across the shoulders, and the cleric looked as though she were barely standing. (Akyra takes 8 Slashing from an opportunity attack) As the dragonborn stalked through the mud toward the necromancer, her feet sank in and make sucking sounds as she pulled strongly with each step to be able to move, but she summoned a new form of the spiritual weapon, swinging at the necromancer. The weapon seemed to slam into a magical barrier, preventing the magical axe from landing a hit. (miss)

Legendary Reaction: The necromancer raised his clawed hand toward Akyra as the cleric drew near, and the spectral hand appeared before her. Thinking she could shrug it off, Akyra paid little attention to it, until the hand sunk through armor and scale, muscle and bone, and she felt the cold grip on her heart. Ice shot through her veins and the world went dark as she fell face forward into the mud. (Akyra takes 13 Necrotic damage and is unconscious/dying. Make a death save, but include actions as well in case someone heals you)
23:45, Today: Arthin Dol rolled 23,13 using d20+7,2d8.  Chill Touch, Necrotic, Prevents healing. – [roll=1645422323.33745.364942]

Zhalis also closed on the necromancer's position, firing another blast at the skeletal soldier and lashing out with the spectral tentacle as well. The blast hit true, causing more damage, but not enough to disrupt its animation. The tentacle lashed out, seeming to be on solid hit as well, but the skeletal soldier intercepted it with his blade. (Soldier takes 11 damage from EB, but uses a reaction to gain +3 AC versus the tentacle)

Lady Chlora continued to position herself so that she could get to the far side of the necromancer unseen. So far, she had been successul.

Sakamoto continued to lay unconscious and bleeding in the mud. (as you were not healed by your turn, your actions did not take place)

Ariadne stepped around the skeletal soldier to lay a healing hand on Sakamoto, bringing him back from the brink of death once again. (Sakamoto heals 4 damage)

Khorth took advantage of the Soldier's focus on Akyra to land a devastating blow. His sword cut through bone and already he could see the necromantic energies flowing to fill in the wounds and hold the soldier's body together. Khorth called out to the Mother for aid and green light suffused the blade before exploding into the skeletal remains. As it did, the black flames flared green and vanished. The skeletal soldier stumbled back a half step, dropping its sword and the half-plate armor it had worn clanked as it clattered down from his skeletal frame. It brought one hand up to its chest in a warrior's salute to Khorth, then crumbled. (Skeletal Soldier is finally dead, radiant damage preventing Undying Fortitude)

THE STORM blows past and sunlight pierces through the leaves up above. Lighting and rain still fall heavy and brutally in the storms path, moving off toward the east.

The Necromancer cursed as he saw Maurdreth defeated. He turned west, flying across the deeply water-soaked area nearby in the wispy black-sheet form he'd used twice before. With a stretch of less-soaked water available to him, the necromancer began to sprint eastward, away from the party.

The Skeletal Soldier is dead.

The magic of the Mother had proven stronger than the unholy energies he had finally brought down and he looked around as the storm still raged on. The druid was taking care of the halfling, there was still that weird black tentacle that had fought the skeleton and he could not see the two women the seemed to be on their side.

That left Akyra, that had foolishly turned her back to the skeleton and been dropped, so the lizardfolk went to her, hand glowing green has he gave her healing.

Ariadne almost gave up the chase, getting ready to heal Akyra, but when the other lizard man did it first, she dismissed her flaming scimitar and ran towards where the necromancer had gone.  As she ran, she loaded up her sling and tried to hurl a stone at him, but concentrating on too many things at once, she slipped in the wet undergrowth and flung the stone into the bushes.   She let out an exasperated sigh of annoyance, wondering if her brief time with this group had dulled her outdoor skills.

OOC:   Full move forward, use sling.   17:20, Today: Ariadne Greenthorn rolled 6 using 1d20+5.  sling.

Day 4: Prophecies

Zhalis could see that the soldier was finally dead, good. Even better was the new group's willingness to get up and continue moving against the necromancer. Provided they could catch him, it would now be a more even fight. His minions soaked a lot of damage off him and dealt a lot of damage, however, the necromancer was still dangerous and they would have to be careful.

Following the direction she remembered her sister moving in earlier, Zhalis stepped around the tree to see the necromancer had moved, much farther away at that. It seemed that with his minions dead, he did not want to face the group in a fight. With the storm no longer raging around them, Zhalis had a clear target and sent a blast of eldritch energy in his direction. Sadly, with the distance, she misjudged her aim and it went past him.

Day 4: Prophecies

Every square on the map that is not light green in color, is now considered Difficult Terrain, requiring additional movement. Difficult Terrain includes all trees, bushes, logs, circular fire pit things, and the darker green squares. (I will move you as favorably as possible in all cases.)

Akyra lay unconscious and bleeding. (you had not been healed yet on your turn, so you won't have an action until next round)

Zhalis fired a blast at the necromancer, but shot past him and into the trunk of a nearby tree. (miss)

Lady Chlora moved further west, and caught a clear sight of the necromancer. She sent an orb of chromatic energy at him, but just as she released the spell, he turned around to look at Zhalis for the blast that had just missed him, and in doing so her intercepting aim was now off target. (miss)

Sakamoto stumbled out of the thick mud, then collapsed to hands and knees as he caught his breath.

Ariadne released concentration on her spell and moved forward with sling in hand to hurl stones at the necromancer. At such a distance, it was no surprise the stone bounced noisily off of a tree limb before reaching its mark. (Miss, a sling has disadvantage on ranges over 30 ft, not that it mattered with a 1 on the first attack roll)

Khorth commanded Akyra to get up and rejoin the fight, sending the Mother's healing power into the cleric's unconscious body. (Akyra heals for 10) He wasted no time before stalking after the necromancer.

The Necromancer stopped in his tracks, his body language suggesting he had just realized, or remembered, that he was missing something. He turned back around to face east, [Language unknown: "Ulck!"] None of the heroes knew the language he spoke, but it was quite clear that he cursed. He took off at a sprint, right back toward the group, then veered toward the north, running on top of a log then jumping, swinging off of a low branch, and landing on the far side of said tree. As he landed, he drew out a vial and downed the contents.

Round 9 Actions. The necromancer is clearly trying to make an escape.

Akyra commanded her spiritual axe to move nearer to the necromancer's position as she stood and healed herself with Bahamut's light. (Akyra regains 11 HP)

Zhalis moved yet closer to where the necromancer now stood, transferred her hexing curse to him, then sent another blast of eldritch energy in his direction. The Necromancer reacted to Zhalis casting the spell by trying to tug on the strings of her Fate. She felt a power warring with her hand as she aimed it, but she easily overcame and the blast still caught him in the chest. (Reaction gives Zhalis disadvantage, but she hit him anyway, 13 damage)

Lady Chlora sent another orb of thundering energy at the necromancer, catching him in the left shoulder and fluttering his red robes about as the energy shook him. (Necro takes 18 Thunder)

Legendary Reaction: the necromancer reached his clawed hand out toward Lady Chlora, the spectral claw reached out toward her, sinking into flesh and sending chills through her blood. (Chlora takes 6 Necrotic damage)

Sakamoto leaped into the mud, then rushed toward the north to intercept the necromancer's movement. (move, dash, bonus-dash)

Ariadne hurled another stone and missed in an embarrassing way. The druid cursed, and tucked the sling way. (miss)

Khorth also moved to intercept the necromancer, utilizing the higher ground as best he could to avoid the deepest mud. (move & dash)

The Necromancer seemed frustrated by the party's movements, creating a wall barring him from whatever he had turned back for. "Pray, is it? We'll see who feasts on whose flesh today." The necromancer moved further to the northeast, chanting as he moved. A spinning orb of the deepest black appeared ahead of him, then he threw his arms wide and the orb exploded into inky blackness. (Darkness spell has been cast.) Most of the party lost sight of the necromancer as soon as the orb exploded, but Chlora watched him walk into it himself. Zhalis was swallowed by the darkness, with only lower section of her right leg sticking out for those who were at an angle to see such.

Sakamoto hoped to rely on the magical qualities of his cloak to keep himself hidden from necromantic yes. (Hiding)

Ariadne moved nearer to the dark sphere and summoned a sphere of her own. Her's was wreathed in flames, however, and moved a squishy bounce as it rolled through the mud. Zhalis got to see the sphere up close and personal, feeling the heat radiated from the flaming sphere. As it rolled into the darkness, however, Ariadne felt her magic unravel, and the sphere was swallowed by the darkness. (The flaming sphere is dispelled as it comes in contact with the Darkness.)

Akyra waded into the darkness, axe swinging. The blade connected with something solid. Too solid? It was hard to tell, but there was a grunting sound that followed it, so she repeated the stroke and landed another solid hit. This time, however, splinters of wood sprayed out against her body and she heard a faint chuckle. (miss and miss - out of range)

Zhalis took aim into the darkness, relying on memory as best she could. The blast left her hand, and an impact was heard, but the sound was distinctly that of a tree rather than a body. (miss)

Lady Chlora felt around for clues of where she was. (I should have replied to that sooner. Go ahead and include actions for this round and the next in your next post. I'll let your first attack roll in that post not have disadvantage for my lack of an earlier reply.)

Sakamoto crept closer, trying to remain hidden.

Ariadne approached the darkness and shifted into the form of a wolf before moving in and attempting to sniff out the necromancer's location. She was close. Almost there. She hoped to bite, but there was more searching to do; more north, more west. The wolf dashed to reach him, and she found him. (Not enough movement to reach him, so I had you use your action to Dash and move adjacent to him this round.)

The snarl and snap of a wolf's teeth could be heard in the midst of that darkness. Was it friend, or another shadowy foe?
Khort & Sakamoto: you see Ariadne turn into a wolf, so you know the sounds to be her indicating the necromancer's location.

Khorth uses all of his knowledge and skill to try to pinpoint the necromancer's location. Northern edge. Khorth pursued, and informed others of where the necromancer was.

Akyra swung her axe wildly in the necromancer's direction. As she did, she felt pulling and tugging on the axe and felt/heart sounds of clawing and scratching along the shaft and blade as she swung. The momentum was robbed by whatever had interfered, and she caught only air. Furious, she brought brought it around a second time, but once more she felt and heard the clawing scratches against her weapon. Suddenly, cold rain drops fell down on her from the tree branches she'd just shaken. The shock of it and the recoil of the branch that she'd just caught her axe blade on caused the weapon to be pulled free from her grasp. As the rain hit the muddy ground and splashed all around her, the sound of the axe landing was muffled, and with the darkness spell active, she had no idea where her weapon had landed. (Akyra is disarmed. If Darkness is still in effect next round, you can spend your action and roll Investigation DC 14 to find it.)

Zhalis fired off another blast of eldritch energy, and yet more trees suffer abuse from our heroes. (miss)

Ariadne used her nose and Khorth's aid to find the wizard's location and tried to sink her canines into the man's flesh. She felt his cloth robes brush against her nose, but the teeth bit only darkness and air. (miss)

Akyra swore as she fumbled about in the mud in search of her axe. A small stabbing pain from the spiked shaft welcomed her to it. She took up the weapon again and turned back to face the necromancer. (Akyra gets her axe back)

Zhalis moved to the west and cast another eldritch blast toward the necromancer. Khorth heard the sound of the spell whoosh past his head as he flew off past them both. (miss)

Lady Chlora moved, hoping she was going south. Whether she was or not was uncertain, but she heard movement and then her sister's voice just as she stumbled into her, moved around to her far side, and found herself stepping into the overcast light of the forest. She looked back and saw the huge orb of darkness she had been standing inside of moments before.

Sakamoto continued to sneak through the brush, striking out at the necromancer from behind. His kama barely clipped the necromancer's robes. It was enough to confirm he had found his target, but also enough to alert the necromancer to his presence. Still, he followed it up with a kick that caught the man's leg.

Day 4: Prophecies

The hunter's frustration with the necromancer grew to new heights when he saw the halfling that he had started to respect get killed right in front of his eyes. While the pragmatic view of his race told him that Sakamoto was simply meat now, his short time with the monk, with this group, had changed his view and he had started to get an inkling of understanding for the reverence the softskins had for their  dead.

Which didn't excuse the abominable act that cursed human had done.

Tiny Dancer! Noooooo!!!!!!

Aligning for his strike, he saw the she-wolf pounce on the necromancer, biting him and throwing him on the ground. Quickly taking advantage of the reversal of fortune, he twisted his grip on the sword and plunged it deep in the man's torso, as green light flared angrily.

Zhalis continued to blast away, but the swarm of allies around her target made the effort rather futile so long as she cared about harming others. (miss)

Lady Chlora cast a spell and green orbs grew and glowed within her neck. She opened her jaws and breathed out a poisonous mist that felt over the necromancer and Sakamoto's corpse alike. The necromancer saw it coming, but too late and with not enough room to dodge out of the way before it settled into his skin and entered his lungs. (Necro takes 8 damage)

Legendary Reaction: the necromancer reached a hand out toward Lady Chlora, rotated the hand and flung it toward the rest of the group. Chlora felt the familiar spinning of the world that she had experienced before, as she was teleported behind Khorth, next to Ariadne. "I will harvest all of your souls at once!" He began another chant, this one you recognized as the burst of necrotic energy that had damaged everyone in an area and sustained the skeletal soldier.

Sakamoto is dead.

Ariadne crazed with frustration and bloodlust and lunged at the necromancer, teeth biting robe and flesh-alike, and the she jerked her head side to side pulling the necromancer off-balance. (Necro takes 5 damage and is Prone)

Khorth took advantage of the reversal of fortune as Ariadne drug the necromancer to the ground. He twisted his grip on the sword and plunged it deep in the man's torso, as green light flared angrily. (Necro takes 20 damage)

The Necromancer didn't let a little thing, like a wolf dragging him to the ground, cause him to lose focus on his deadly spell. Khorth's smiting blade sinking through his ribs and into his lung, however?

A thorny vine burst out of the far side of the necromancer's ribcage and plunged into the ground, digging deeper as it tore its way through the man's body. Another burst from the near side of his stomach to do the same, then a third from his right collarbone. The three vines dug into the ground, but held the necromancer's body aloft so that his body did not touch the ground at all. The necromancer's shadow thrashed wildly, out of sink with his body.

Zhalis felt something strong and cold snake its way around her throat...

Those who could see the necromancer's shadow clearly enough could see that it reached and clawed toward Sakamoto's body with one hand, and the ground itself with the other. A black-purple light flared and burnt out as it reached for the ground, as if some magical effect was trying to take hold in the ground, but failing from being unable to reach it. As that light faded, the shadow dissipated in smoky mist not unless the minions that he had summoned earlier. Eyes wide with shock and fear, and a look of desperation on his face, the necromancer's body went still.

The necromancer is dead. Combat is over.

Day 4: Prophecies

The Lizard-folk grinned when the necromancer gave his final breath as the Mother's power claimed his dark soul. Panting for a while, he put his foot on the ribcage to pull his tooth-sword from the corpse then he looked on as the dragonborn looted the man.

Yoooou gooot all the riches he has? Gooood. Nooow it's time foooor the feast.

Looking in the direction of the two new women, he remembered some sort of decorum and warned them.

In my peooople, it is custooomary tooo eat yoooour prey and I am hungry, he hurt me. Yooou doooon't have to loook.

Without waiting further, he ripped the remaining clothing off the necromancer and using his sharp claws, he digged deep and extracted the heart before biting it, the still warm organ gushing blood.

She wrapped the finger in a bit of cloth she ripped from the hem of the necromancer's robes and stuck the finger in a pocket of her pack.

"I am Zhalis, sister to Lady Chlora. I have some magical ability, but alas, I do not know that particular spell. Ah, sister you said you would like a word? Excuse us for a moment, would you?" The group set to introductions and discussion, findings were collected, and preparations to return to town were being made.

Akyra worked on getting Sakamoto settled and ready for travel. The magic that the necromancer had poured into his body seemed to have prepared him for animation, but the necromancer's death had prevented the spell from taking full effect.

Khorth set to the grizzly task of consuming the necromancer's corpse, ensuring the bastard would never again defile the rest of those who had perished.

Zhalis and Chlora headed east, away from the town, speaking their native tongue as they made their way to the cellar entrance, and bent down to retrieve something nearby.

Looking over her shoulder, she called to the two Yuan-ti. "We go for town now. If you would meet us tonight, I will repay you with that meal..." She looked at Khorth who had devoured the wizard. "....not that Khorth needs a meal ow."

She then set off for town.

With their loot in hand, and Sakamoto's body prepared for transport, the group made their way back into town. The journey from the secret entrance wasn't terribly far, maybe 150 yards or so, before they came in through the eastern edge of town, near the inn where Gundren and Don-Jon had taken up residence.

Those who wished to go to the inn were already there. Those who wished to seek aid for Sakamoto could go to the center of town, north of the square, to the Shrine of Luck, in hope that the priestess had returned from her journey east.

During the trip, he thought about the Mother and how she had graced him in his life. He felt more confident in his abilities now, his goddess having graced him with more knowledge as he was devouring the glowing liver of their enemy. He washed the blood in pools of water left by the storm and during the trip, he asked one of the new women.

In town, he followed Akyra's lead and went strait for the temple.

Day 4: Prophecies

The walk back to town was a short one, but Zhalis seemed lost in thought for most of it. Her eyes wandered, in search of the best pool to leave the finger in for her patron. Khorth stopped at one to clean the blood from his scales, but Zhalis thought that pool tainted the essence of Leviathan and kept searching for another. A short while later, she found one she deemed adequate for her purposes and broke off from the group to complete her task. First, she pulled the wrapped finger from within her pack and unraveled the dressings she had placed around it to keep any blood from soaking into the rest of her things. She dropped the cloth on the ground next to the pool, finding it beneath her to keep it now, and walked into the center of the pool to drop the finger into the deepest point.

Zhalis hurried back to the group and whispered to Lady Chlora, [Language unknown: "Be vor pl even-ompa. Ai tamiun fo whistiare oulredlin t ioos atetin-ourouskor ck est coningwit. Saear inund hasus etal e anyio thsa hatthalar."]

Khorth addressed the sisters and Lady Chlora did not hesitate to answer. Zhalis had the notion he expected a response from both the yuan-ti, replied with, "I travel with Lady Chlora most of the places she ventures, whether I have a reason to go there or not. Her skin is softer than mine and it is my duty to keep it in one piece."

Upon arriving in town, part of the group made for the temple, whereas Zhalis followed Lady Chlora to the inn. After they paid and received their rooms, she went up to change into dry clothes. After she freshened up, Zhalis made sure to do a little maintenance to her armor and other weapons before she joined her sister to thoroughly inspect the necromancer's bag.

Gundren raised his eyebrows in anticipation as he asked, "I take it the Thayan necromancer is dead, then? Did you happen to run into the others I told you about?" Don-Jon Raskin listened with interest from a nearby table, nursing an ale and picking roasted meat from the carcass of some type of bird. Next to him sat a dwarf is spiked metal armor.

Day 4: Prophecies

(At The Stonehill Inn)

The Grey skinned dwarf had just upturned a tankard of frothing drink into his mouth and continued gulping loudly as Gundren spoke and Don-Jon ate his fowl.  Yet before anyone could answer he slammed the emptied mug down on the table hard enough to rattle the few bits of eating utensils.  He looked at Gundren and the person he spoke to with a grimace.  And within seconds Brillik’s cheeks ballooned to a cartoonish size and it appeared he was about to vomit the entire tankard of ale back onto the table.  But when he opened his mouth the only thing that escaped was a loud 4-5 second belch.  He then quickly wiped his mouth with the back of his forearm and waited for the next round, or his meal he wasn’t sure which.

To onlookers Brillik looked impoverished, dirty, and smelled like street grime, or end-trails depending on how recently he had been looking for trouble.  His muscular chest and upper torso could be seen under the darkened leather straps that held what looked like a handful of grey wrought-iron patches strategically placed over his body.  Some of them brandished spikes, others were flat, but looked modular almost as though there were pieces missing.  As always his mohawk stood straight up and his braids fell across his chiseled and sinewed back and chest.  Anyone looking for weapons didn’t see any laying near his person.

After setting his tankard down he looked on as Gundren awaited a response.

At The Stonehill Inn: Brillik, Lady Chlora, Zhalis

Gundren seemed happy from the news of everything going well, even if he was a bit surprised at the mention of Khorth's belly full of necromancer, "I'm happy to hear those murderers have been dealt with. I know Akyra and Pavel will both be especially proud to have avenged the elven father. We'll have to see about getting word sent to Bharkel, that she and the elven family can return to their home here. BonThot had been working on means for magical communication; perhaps he's worked something out that will let him reach her without making the multiple-days-long trip."

He had cast a few glances about while speak, "Were the others headed back here, or did they still have more to finish up at the manor? I'd like to introduce them to another of my close associates, Brillik there." He pointed to the uncultured dwarf in the spiked armor sitting near Don-Jon. “Vell I’ll be a Fanon’s uncle!  That’s gut news.” He says in a jolly tone.  Brillik hated the stigma that followed him on a constant basis, through no fault but his own.  While he accepted his current fate, he did not have to accept it’s permanence, and he wouldn’t.  His head nodded as the last statement ran through his head and as his thoughts continued to spiral into ways he would earn his family’s honor back he watched the strange bi-pedal lizard enter this small sleepy Inn.

Though the sight of the lizardfolk surprised him more than it really should have since a pair of snake-women just waltzed on by, it still did.  He watched the lizard-thing with the eye of a warrior sizing up the creature in the event something kicked off and he had to defend himself.  The creatures movements and characteristics were completely alien to him , and as the beast sat down he burst out with a large belly laugh as though someone had told him the funniest joke in the last kin’s age.

Day 4: Prophecies

The final one of the group, Akyra walked in and looked to all accounts to be barely ion her own feet with exhaustion. The black skinned dragonborn has signs of blood dried on her scales and silver armor (Most not hers). Her pack was slung weakly over her shoulder, a hexagonal shield with a symbol of a side portrait of a silver dragon's head roaring on it. also strapped to teh pack were several weapons, including a black staff, a bow and longsword. At her hip was a unique battleaxe with the motive of dragon wings

She saw Khorth crouching and snorted with amusement, and saw Gundren as well as Don-jon and another dwarf with the two snake women. She made her way and sat down with a sigh. "Gundren....your not gonna believe the day we've had."

She looked at Ariadne, noting her mood, then spoke. "First of all, you should know - Pavel, Bharkel and Bonthot have all fallen to the undead scourge within the keep."

She fell silent, closing her eyes and clearing her mind as she whispered in her mind for her friends. Bharkel - May your journey find the adventure you seek. Pavel - may your path in the afterlife be blessed. Bonthot - May your new home hold the riches your mind sought.

She again opened her eyes. "We went in search of the source of teh red cloaks that were plaguing the village. It turns out they were led by a Thayan, a vile necromancer of some power." She looked at Chlora and Zhalis. "If not for you two, we may have perished, so for what it's worth, you have my thanks."

She looked at Gundren again. "As you know, we almost lost Sakamoto, but the priestess managed to help bring him back. He will need a few days, but he will be well once recovered. The keep has been cleared, and we have salvaged a few items....we need time to determine their properties, but that can wait until tomorrow."

She again looks at the girls. "If you intend to stay and help, then what gear we have, we will share with you. Zhalis, i noticed you fight with a blade - tell me, are you skilled with longswords?"

Day 4: Prophecies

Gundren was ready for the story as it began to be told, still smiling at the knowledge that Sakamoto had made it through, "Well, with Sakamoto falling, I imagine it was more dangerous than we expected." He laughed, and you could tell he was expected that to be more or less the worst of it.

Gundren's brows pulled together in angry disbelief as Akyra told him that three others had been killed, "Wait. Bharkel left before you did, with the family of the man the Thayans had murdered." He looked over at Ariadne for confirmation or refute, "I watched them head off down the road and up into the woods. I.."

Gundren stood up from his chair and began to pace as he processed. He whispered something to himself, words to breathy and quiet to hear for the most part, "Pavel and BonThot." He shook his head as he paced, speaking to himself. He turned to Akyra and spoke up, "Pavel and BonThot? And Bharkel?" As the dragonborn confirmed, Gundren ran his hands through his hair and kept them on his head, leaning back slightly and drawing in a deep breath...

...then he reared back, "FUC-" he punched the stone wall of the inn, a dull slapping sound and a loud cracking sound cut off his words. It took him a moment to compose himself enough to come back and rejoin everyone.

Those with Passive Perception or Passive Medicine of 12 or higher can read:

Spoiler text: (Highlight or hover over the text to view)
Perception: You can tell the cracking sound did not come from the wall, and Gundren kept the hand he'd punched it with off to the side afterward. When he came to sit down, you could see it was already swollen.
Medicine: You know from the sounds and his body language, that he broke his hand punching the wall.
Other than a bit of a flare to his nostrils now and then, he gives no indication that he feels the pain of it. Or perhaps he feels he deserves to feel it right now.

Gundren nodded his head to the other things that were mentioned, staying mostly quiet as the old guard spoke with the newly arrived clutch sisters.

Day 4: Prophecies

Akyra watched as the dwarf went through the emotions she herself felt in the keep's dungeon - she was ready to die among her friends, but common sense prevailed. As he sat, she shook her head. "You will need that seen to Gundren - My powers are drained from keeping us alive." She wanted to avoid talking about them, but she knew he needed the whole tale.

"When we arrived we found her and others in the ravine, already dead. Pavel fell and was turned by a wight, an undead that can raise teh dead. Bonthot fell to teh same beast, but he was not brought back." There was real sorrow in her eyes and tone, as she placed a hand on her friends shoulder. "I know the pain you feel....we all do. In the keep i almost...." she trailed off, remembering her facing the skeletons and her mind, she was ready to die. But then she remembered her other friends - Khorth, Sakamoto, Ariande.

The dragonborn knew what Gundren thought now...she had known him her whole life, and knew him well enough to know he blamed himself, but it wasn't his fault.

"But, there may be somethiing bigger than just the necromancer - He was fleeing somewhere. He may be dead, but this may not be over. We need to band together...." She looked at Khorth, and Ariande. "...combine old strength...." then looked at the clutch sisters with a nod, and even the dwarf with a little confusion. "...and new. We need to reclaim your home, and get answers."

Raising an amused eyebrow at Gundren's outburst, Ariadne smiled at the dwarf sympathetically.  She didn't really approve of losing control like that, but she definitely emphasized with how he felt, since she'd been there when those brave people lost their lives, and to Thayan undead to boot.
She spoke quietly to him.
"I've got one cure left, old man.  Let me share it with you."

Unless he stopped her, she'd reach out to the Natural Order and cast her last curing spell on him.

Day 4: Prophecies

Brillik watched as they all doted over the old dwarf like he was some kind of youngling.   He was a Dwarf, a race forged from the strength of the earth, rocks and granite.  But he stayed quiet as he watched the rest of them.  This had to be the group Gundren told him about, the ones who would need to help getting to the mines as their frail bodies would likely wilt and spill their life giving blood to the monstrosities that awaited them on their trip.

Then the dragonborn said something that made him pay attention:
quote:
"But, there may be something bigger than just the necromancer - He was fleeing somewhere. He may be dead, but this may not be over. We need to band together....combine old strength....and new. We need to reclaim your home, and get answers."
It was then he decided to speak up.

"Ja, you're right fraulein, something big is koming.  It wasn't a half moon ago that  I escorted Sister Garaele on a discovery mission.  MAybe you hav seen the storms in the area recently?  Vell, she thought there vas somethink funny about those storms and vhat ve saw I don't fink I would have ever seen.   battelink in the lightening filled sky, and , odd and powerful chanting somethink unnatural.  Within 3 moons somethink is koming."

He let the thought trail off while the others let his words sink in.... and emptied another flagon of ale.

Day 4: Prophecies

As Brillik mentioned the storms, a strange feeling came over Ariadne, Khorth, and Akyra. For Ariadne, it was that feeling of hair raising on the back of her neck. For Akyra and Khorth it was an uneasy tingling sensation running up their spines. Scenes from their recent dreams played once more in their minds eye, and Akyra thought for a moment that she saw the reflection of a large, armored man in a nearby window, but turning to look he was not there, and turning back the reflection was gone.

At the mention of teh storm, Akyra felt an uneasyness in her very soul, a shudder of almost electrical enery running through her body. She closed her eyes and breathed, then opened them.

...to see the armored figure in teh reflection of the window.

The dragonborn turned all of a sudden, thinking to see itm, but the figure was gone, like smoke in the wind. She turned back to look in the reflection, but saw nothing. She looked back to the others. "We saw a storm, master dwarf when we came out of the keep and faced the necromancer - it was in full force. " She looked at Gundren and nodded. "...and i think he may be right. That was no normal storm. I had a vision of it, along with a dragon flight. Had i just had that i would have tried to explore, but your friend's words - i believe that may need our attention."

Gundren brushed of Akyra's concern, and objected when Ariadne tried to heal him. Only when she insisted he let her share it did he relent and accept it. As the bones snapped back into place, his eyes went wide and pained sounds escaped his mouth, reacting more to the mending than he did the breaking. He flexed his fingers a few times, tender but no longer painful, "Thank you, Ariadne."

"We all felt the storm here, too. It rose up from the sea out west, and blew straight for us. Dragons and orcs? Unnatural chanting and an unnatural storm to follow? Nothing of what I know of the mine has anything to do with any storm."
Gundren looked over to Brillik, "At the ruins of Thundertree village, was it? In three moons? It will take you nearly that long to get there. If this is something you must see to, then you'll need to leave by morning."

Day 4: Prophecies

Zhalis appeared from the room she shared with her sister carrying a bow and a large sack thrown over her shoulder. It was obvious to the group she had doffed her armor and changed her clothes, and freshened herself up with a bath, the excess water still occasionally dripped from the tips of her hair. She sat down on a mostly open table, opened the bag, and carefully spread the items on the table for her companion's accrual.

As Akyra addressed her, Zhalis smiled at the woman. "I am trained with many weapons, but my greatest strength lies in my magical gift from Leviathan. If no one is using such a blade, I will gladly take it but if someone has already laid claim to it, please keep it."

Items laid out on the table:
Potion of Invisibility
Potion of Giant Growth
Staff of Healing
A bow: The bow was made of twisted branches and looked like it was strung with twisted...hair?
A pair of gloves (Stray's Conviction): At the hems are old, well-worn manacles that have been fastened to the gloves and magically clasp onto your forearms when worn. If you're missing any arms, hands, or fingers when you attune to the gloves, dark, smoky copies of the missing appendages magically rematerialize. The limbs are fully capable parts of your body and remain as long as you're attuned to the gloves. While attuned to these gloves, your movement speed is increased by 10 feet. While attuned and wearing these gloves, you can apply Sneak Attack damage to unarmed strikes and natural weapons. Additionally, when you successfully deal damage with Sneak Attack, you can apply the Sneak Attack dice's damage as Necrotic damage, to another target within 30 feet. You can use this ability twice per day, with uses resetting at sunset.

AKA my character has 1 level of fighter so is proficient with all simple and martial weapons, but only has a 13 strength and 10 dexterity, so regular weapons aren't really her forte even though she can use them.

Finding it hard to keep his eyes opened, the paladin closed up on himself, and felt the sweet song of sleep calling him...

Until the loud rock-digger started to speak of the storm. Opening a yellow eye, he fixated on the dwarf.
