Re: COMMENT THREAD 3

may we get a summary of where the enemies are (by name/square occupied or something similar)?  i think a giant centipede is within attacking distance of borimer (it attacked kahan, who is next to borimer at the end of round 2), but im not sure what else is close enough for him to attack.

Re: COMMENT THREAD 3

Yes, I'd like one of those too so I can tell if Kahan can move around the wall of flame without walking across any undead or centipedes.

Re: COMMENT THREAD 3

I was planning to put it in the map I put up yesterday but ran out of time and wanted to get the post up.  I'll try to do that today.

Each square is 10' x 10' correct?

Re: COMMENT THREAD 3

Yes.  The player who used to play Va'a Polemi is a sometimes lurker here, and he created a division of the room for me.  I will post it, but it doesn't say who is where exactly.

Here's what he did.  I might adjust for future rounds to use these.  Feel free to reference these squares if you want for movement.

Re: COMMENT THREAD 3

not sure if the square designations changed with the va'polemi chart, borimer is headed to the northeast corner (i think that was F6).

btw how is va'polemi doing? s/he only played a bit after i started then quit, but seemed a bit angry when s/he did. i hope s/he's doing well, i enjoyed journeying with the character (and the player) :)

Re: COMMENT THREAD 3

Va'a is fine.  His call name is "Bart" or "Ghenghis the Hutt" and he posts in Community Chat as well as at ASWoT here: link to another game

Kahan's player also posts at that "game."

He said he liked playing and the character.  He just doesn't like 2nd edition anymore, but he still lurks occasionally because he likes the storyline here.

Re: COMMENT THREAD 3

DM Heath:
Tahldar casts web, which extends across the two slime undead.  One thing Tahldar didn't count on was the extreme heat of the wall of fire dissolving the web.  It will hold the two slime creatures for maybe one round.

I was hoping the web would ignite from the fire and do 2d4.  Not much damage, but every little bit counts.

Re: COMMENT THREAD 3

The only "fire" is the red line of fire.  The red and purple splotches are just extreme heat due to proximity.

Re: COMMENT THREAD 3

Etag already had his spellbook out and should have been able to cast something this turn.

Re: COMMENT THREAD 3

Yes, but I was trying to imply that he was shocked by the scene and was flipping through his spellbook to find a spell, which caused him delay.  He is not a fighting type of mage by trade.

Re: COMMENT THREAD 3

Maybe I could help make it faster by casting a knock or two?

it just ocurred to me, would have a knock spell saved us the effort of zombie killing??

Re: COMMENT THREAD 3

LOL.  I was waiting for someone to ask that!  Yes, it could have, though there are multiple doors needing to be unlocked here.  That was a major flaw in my design of this part of the dungeon that I feared would be exploited, yet apparently no one saw it.

Re: COMMENT THREAD 3

We will have a "scene" coming up where your alignment will be part of the determining factor in the number of experience points you get based on your character's behavior.  Some of you have not indicated what your character's alignment is.  Please check your character's alignment and, if it is not there, please add what it is.

Re: COMMENT THREAD 3

Does Kahan feel that the gnomes and whomever else gets put in the portable hole will have enough air to breathe inside it for them to cross? It shouldn't take more than a couple minutes.

Re: COMMENT THREAD 3

After casting his dimension door, I estimate Tahldar will have about 280' of bridge left to cross.  He moves at 120', so it would take three rounds of movement until he could unfurl the portable hole on the other side.

Re: COMMENT THREAD 3

In reply to Kahan Singh (msg # 97):

At walking speed of 3 mph, you can walk 110 yards in about 75 seconds.  This is about 3 times as far.  You also cannot simply walk across because of the way it sways, has missing boards, and how careful you will have to be.  So 1-2 miles per hour is probably the speed you can do, assuming nothing goes wrong.  This means it will take a minimum of about 450 seconds (or 7.5 minutes) to get across.  If you have problems or multiple people crossing that shakes the bridge or makes it dangerous, then you are likely restricted to about 1 mph, which means you can cross in about 11.25 minutes.  So that's your calculated range, not including the time to spread out and open/close the hole.

The size of the portable hole is 6 feet in diameter and 10 feet deep.  "The only air in the hole is that which enters when the hole is opened. It contains enough air to supply one Medium creature or two Small creatures for 10 minutes."

A gnome is a "small" creature.

Given the oddness of the portable hole, plus claustrophobia, etc., you will have to succeed with a charisma check for each gnome you want to climb into the hole.

So to answer your question, these are the variables you are working with.  So maybe 2 gnomes can go in the hole if they agree, and maybe you can get them across if all goes well.

Re: COMMENT THREAD 3

At 1mph you can cover 1.46667 feet per second, let's call it 1.5 for simplicity sake.  This would be a move of 90' per round.  My dimension door covers 720' of the 1000' the bridge spans.  Leaving 280'.  I figure it would be about 5 rounds (minutes) to get Etag and 1 Gnome in the hole, cast dimension door (time to cast is 1), and cover the 280' then let them out of the hole.

Sound good?  If yes, then Tahldar will insist everyone wait to try to cross the bridge till he gets across.  He is not the most able bodied of adventurers.  :)

Re: COMMENT THREAD 3

You can certainly try that.  But keep in mind that you are opening a dimension door over a very rickety planked bridge that is neither stable nor very strong.  So when you exit the door, will you step out onto a plank, the space between two planks, or miss a plank altogether...?  I suppose a saving throw will determine that.

Etag is a drow, which is medium sized creature.  You can fit two small or one medium sized creature in the hole with 10 minutes of air.

Re: COMMENT THREAD 3

Having one medium and one small creature inside will surely give at least 5 minutes of air.
