Ghost and the Pyramid

After many weeks of labor, you all find yourselves ready to venture forth once again. Doctor Rajeed has been given insight into the safest way to water or civilization he points toward the setting sun as it disappears over the western horizon. West following Ra's blinding chariot is where you must go.

You all begin the trek across the cooling sands that first night. Without further incident you make camp early the next day. You all do your best to shield yourselves from the burning sun, but it is still uncomfortable. The heat and the sand almost unbearable. The soothing springs summoned by Doc and Scath help and the magical gruel though tasteless is sustaining.

For another full night you all trek west the going slow your movement halved in the soft sand as you sink to your knees with each step. It is as the dawn approaches on that second night that you come across tracks heading to the north-west. Taking stock doc directs you all to follow the tracks, he would make one of his religious comments about how his God is directing him to follow the tracks. Thus, your group spry thanks to the soaking pools and not tattered at all, turn to follow the tracks. The trackers amongst you would estimate 5 horses traveled this way. With the sun rising after the second night, you come to the end of the trail, the wind blowing briskly has covered the tracks leaving you all alone in the desolate desert.

As you all sit relaxing in the soothing spring the morning sun evaporating the magical water, Vander always alert sees a solitary man in rags appear not more than 100 yards away on the next dune. His features are indiscernible as he shuffles through the dust.

Vander grabs his short sword that lies at hand on the edge of the pool. The new magical blade gleams in the sunlight. Runes flashing with magical power. Standing knee deep in the water wearing only a loin cloth. Whisks of steam rising from his wet green skin. He points his sword at the figure giving his warning to the rest of you.
The strange figure doesn’t move other than to shuffle further to the north-west away from your group. Dressed in rags and unarmed it seems no threat.

Then she calls out to the stranger. "Hello Stranger, we mean you no harm. Come join us for some fresh water." She says motioning.

Then she whispers to Vander. "Even though I told you to put your blade away, do always keep an eye out."

With no one else putting up their hands to see who this figure is. Doc and Vander equip themselves and head up the dunes to the ragged figure. You shout and call, but the figure continues to shuffle away from you, heading to the north-west. When you come within 45' the ragged man turns to you both. At this distance you can both see that this man may have once been rich. His cloths are that of a king, but they are now ravaged by the sun, weather and harsh desert sands. His face is haggard, but it is the eyes that shock you the most. Vacant and black sockets look back at you. In a rasping voice this creature speaks to you.

The ghost of the ancient ruler turns and then continues heading to the north-west forever walking toward his tomb that he may not enter.

Ghost and the Pyramid

The doc after pondering a short time breaks into a sermon for his fellows.

"By golly my fellow adventurers, stories of this fabled curse are written in the holy scriptures, for the words of the righteously wise and great Ra say.

So it was that Osiris came to his grandfather Ra, showing him the respect due to Ra's exalted status he asked Ra the wises ones advice.

"Grandfather Iam perplexed. I have made promises to the pharaohs over the lands through which the mighty river Athis runs. Now the last of their line calls down a curse on their people under his stewardship, in my name. Though it pains me I am bound to fulfill it. The waters of Athis must cease. I do not wish to do this but even we gods are bound by higher laws. What can I do?"

The holy Ra smiled at his troubled grandchild saying,

"If you are bound to fulfill that curse then it must be done, but this doesn't mean conditions cannot be set that would break it or alter its intentions. If this foolish pharaoh will punish his people, make sure he is punished equally. Set conditions that will break both curses upon him and his lands that he may learn from his erroneous ways."

Osiris did as his grandfather suggested placing a way to break the curse called down by the foolish ruler on his people, but alas the condition he placed upon the pharaohs was not easily met for the pharaoh had been very cunning. Even to this day the curses remain unbroken. So sayeth the scriptures.

There has also been mention of these "Stargems" but I cannot remember the whole set of verses.

When the Evil walks our land again,
Will Nomadic princes come to Set.
His power into his first bride’s hand,
That good and evil then are met.
Then as needs be,
The Star Gems three.
To my tomb be borne hither,
And a hope shall not wither.
Open the gates to my sphere of power,
And put off evil in its appointed hour.

All interesting stuff but if this is the same curse my holy texts speak of there may be a chance to free not only this tortured soul but to free the river of Athis as well.""

The doc seems excited by the news of perhaps making up a little for the evil that you all released.

Lupine was, as per usual, ready to let the others approach the specter before stepping closer himself.  While he would support them in what he viewed as their folly, he didn't see fit to rush in headlong.

After listening to the doctor's fable, Lupine glanced over at the ghostly pharaoh and made a disapproving sound from behind his scarf.  "There is but one lesson to learn from this fallen spirit; one must aspire to serve, never to rule.  Though perhaps the trappings of that one's station may suffice to end the fire spirit unleashed by our hands."

On the other hand, if we are not the ones destined to battle the evil we released, then this chaps tomb could be ours too. The specter shuffles through the sand heading off to the north-west. A dark shadow falls over your group causing you all to look up. Is that a rain cloud?! You all turn to the southeast and rolling in from the dawn horizon are dark bubbling clouds. You can all smell a dampness in the wind, it is tinged with something else hard to pick. The wind is picking up. Blowing harder now and driving the dusty sand before it, stinging exposed skin.

The idea of water falling freely from the sky should have been a comfort in the parched heat of the endless sands.  Instead, it sent the wrong kind of chill up Lupine's spine.  He made a gesture to ward off evil, then gestured at the clouds as though the superstition would somehow ward off the storm.

"This one dares not brave that cloud.  All protection against the corrosive waters were destroyed by the fire demon."  He cautioned, already preparing to head a different way.

The rolling storm herds your group erringly to the northwest after the specter. For hours you seem to be rushing as fast as you can through the sands heading northwest. The storm is almost on top of you when it comes into view. There in the midst of the vast desert sands, the last relic of a dead civilization stands before you. Surrounded by the broken foundations of a once mighty city, the great pyramid itself rises up from the sands, looking barely touched by time. It is 745 feet square at the base and rises to a height of 700 feet. The pyramid’s four surfaces face the points of the compass. Surrounding the pyramid is a wall 5 feet wide and 20 feet tall. A temple structure is attached to the south face of this wall. It is the only existing way through the pyramid’s wall. Stairs lead up to a platform in front of the temple’s entrance. Behind the temple, running up the south face of the pyramid, a stairway rises 50 feet up to a platform and an opening into the pyramid. The first drops of rain begin to fall and when they touch your skin it burns like fire currently it is only a mild spiting, but heavy rain is on the way.

OOC: Everyone takes 1 point of damage.

With the storm rolling in your group faces a new obstacle. Soon the havens will open, and Lupine has already warned you all that the storm doesn't seem natural and staying out in it doesn't seem like a good idea. Before you are 2 places to get out of the rain first is the temple that is part of the wall that surrounds the pyramid proper and the second is the pyramid proper which you will need to get over the wall or go through the temple to get too. Both are before you as your group is approaching from the southeast.

What are you going to do?

The rain is coming down harder by the time you reach the broken lime-cement basin, 100 feet in diameter, rimmed by a beautiful but worn mosaic, with no apparent openings in the bottom lies before you. The dried basin empties into a deep channel that cuts a path into the desert ground to the south. The rain is causing the dust to become mud by now. You all continue to run reaching the base of the stairs up to the temple. The temples stone walls are worn by time. Yet are still quite solid and sturdy. There are no windows in the temple walls and only one entrance, behind a platform, shaded by a roof held aloft by two 10' diameter pillars. A dual staircase leads up to the platform. The temple’s roof is capped by a large dome. You all mount the stairs, hurrying up toward the arched entrance as quick as you can seeking to get under the roof overhanging the entrance. But barely part way up the stairs you are challenged by two dervishes that stand guard at the arched entrance to the temple.

Intruders! What are you doing here at the most holy temple of Amun-Re?

The desert language is not one you are all fluent in, but is close enough to common, that the two desert warriors can be understood behind their face coverings though their accents are thick. They both carry talwars drawing them as soon as you mount the stairs.

"Well met then pilgrims. I must apologies, for recently our most holy High Iaseda has gone missing summoned to stand before the righteous Amun-Re, even now the Iaseda prey for his return. I feared you were Symbayan spies, but please fellow pilgrims come in out of the accursed rain.  Soon my fellow will return with one of the holy Iaseda. Then we can get you into the temple where you might rest and prey."

says they guard gesturing you closer under the cover of the roof. You all soon hear voices and footsteps coming from the entrance as Pachi re-appears with a number of other dervishes. One an Olderman steps forward and announces himself,

"I am Iaseda Akmahlt, welcome to the final resting place of Amun-Re. You have disturbed my most holy of works why have you come here infidels?"

The guard who spoke before speaks up on your groups behalf,

"Holy Iaseda, these are but pilgrims here to worship the ancient gods we should welcome them and provide them sanctuary."

The stare from the holy Iaseda instantly silences him and the older man continues to address you.

As long as they got shelter he was fine. However if they tried to send them back out in the rain as doubtlessly they had done to others? Well, then he was ready to send them to their gods in return. Still, everybody had made with the nice-nice talk for now.

Re: Ghost and the Pyramid of

The Iaseda sees proof of doctor Rajeed’s faith as he calls down the blessing of Ra. This changes his attitude towards your group.

“I see you follower of the true gods. I welcome you follower of Ra to this holy place of Amun-re. I invite you to rest and give tithe at the holy fire. Please forgive my suspicions, but a follower of a false deity recently came here to defile this holy place. The mighty power of Amun-re did take the infidel and by accident our high Iaseda and his body guards who were in a close pursuit of the defiler. But please follow me and I must return to the studies of the holy glyfs and text in the hopes that we can find a way to return the high Iaseda and his men to us. Come.

He leads you all into the temple. A shallow ramp/corridor runs down from south to north some 20 feet between two sets of double doors. 2 of the dervishes open the doors revealing a 30-foot wide by 40-foot long room is lit by torches attached to the walls. The torches cast flickering light on the very decorative carved walls and high, domed ceiling. The Holy laseda, moves to stand at an altar in front of a huge statue of Amun-re. The five other Dervishes gather around the walls, returning to their casual study of the wall carvings. The Holy laseda opens a large white book with platinum fittings. Turning to the 6th dervish the holy cleric says,

“Ahmet take these pilgrims to the sleeping quarters and ensure they have a suitable room. Look after and guide them while they are here paying tithe and homage to the holy Amun-re.”

Ahmet nods and directs the group onward.

Re: Ghost and the Pyramid of

Ahmet takes you to the east corridor and down a set of stairs, soon coming to an unlit corridor, running north to south. The end of the corridor is lost in darkness. There are 10-foot square cells opening off to either side. Within many of the cells dirty dervishes lounge cooking, gambling or smoking hooka’s. He directs you to an empty  cell at the southern end of the hall with just enough room for the 5 of you to squeeze in to sleep cozily. Ahmet says,

“Sahib please make yourselves comfortable I will be over her when you are ready to look around the temple or to take you too one of a number of worship rooms.”

He moves to one of the other cells where 4 dervishes are playing a game with 5 bone dice and awaits your next moves.

"A moment, and this one can ease the hurts caused by the cursed rain.  It will require some time."  Lupine remarked after Ahmet had gone, keeping his voice low.  He bag casting his spells two at a time, with long pauses to consult his spellbook, until those who waited with him were healed.

OOC: Lupine can grant fast healing 8 for 2 rounds as a focus spell.  A single casting per party member should take just over 50 minutes and should take care of all the acid damage..

In reply to Lupine Vedetian (msg # 46):

"And...I could use my medical kit and we can heal the whole group in half that time." Vander points out. He proceeds to do just that, working on anyone who Lupine is not healing.

(OOC-I can treat wounds once every 10 mins, thus we can cut down the healing time to 20+ minutes or so.)

The Doc just shakes his head at Vander and Lupine, without asking he proceeds to scrape away the acid on each of you with a knife it is painful as all f@&k, but then he places a clean cloth and soothing balm on each of your burns you all find yourselves feeling as good as new within 10 minutes.

“Please come again.”

He says sitting down to address his own wounds after everyone else. Struggling to reach his wounds he turns to Vander his old friend.

“Can you clean my wounds old chap, I cannot reach them all.”

12:49, Today: Dr Rajeed rolled 8 using 1d8.  Risky surgery dmg.
12:46, Today: Dr Rajeed rolled 26 using 1d20+18.  Risky surgery ward medic healing hands to treat wounds on everyone but himself .

Everyone takes 8hp then heals 42 that should bring everyone back to full health a total of 34 hp for 4 people done in under 10min

The doc is good even when he hurts you :)

In reply to Dr Rajeed (msg # 48):

Vander, unlike the good Doctor's risky surgery, has a tried but true method of quick healing. Granted it is not as restorative as the Doctor's, but it is so route Vander needs to expand little time, effort, or risk upon doing so. "How the bloody hell did you get acid burns to the backside? The rain comes from the top down!"

OOC-Using Medic Dedication and assurance medicine along with Continual Recovery. The doc heals 15 hp.

Re: Ghost and the Pyramid of

Unsurprisingly, the shrouded elf resisted the dwarf's ministrations.  Forcibly, if necessary.  With his newly improved staff and his more innate magical abilities, that was a lot of possible resistance indeed.  Instead, while the 'doctor' tried to appeal to prospective patients, Lupine healed himself with a minimum of unnecessary bloodshed.

Scath accepts the good Doctor's ministrations though he's not sure if the doc will do it again after his eyes roll back and he shivers slightly as his veins pulse with an internal glow. "Buy me dinner first next time, you randy Rajeed."

In reply to Sakinah Dakar (msg # 52):

Ahmet looks up from where he rolls dice with his fellow dervishes,

"No Sahib. We met the woman, a powerful warrior traveling the desolate sands of the desert. Bread was broken, and stories were exchanged as is custom. She asked about the holy sites here in the desert. This woman seemed good, strong, and righteous. She told us that the spirit of the mighty Amun-Re had come to her and told her to seek out his resting place. The foolish Bahiba now fallen amongst our people believing her blessed by the true gods told her the way to this holy pyramid. Alas he spoke too soon for duplicitous as a snake she invoked the false god, Iomedae. Fearing the worst, the high Iaseda queried her reasons in seeking out this holy site. Imagine our horror when she said her intent was to rob and desecrate this holy site! Isis Damn the infidel!" *Pitu* he spits on the ground.

"Naturally as the chosen protectors of by the old gods of their sacred sites in this blessed land we rose to do our duty, but the woman was too quick and cutting down five of holy warriors she escaped upon her camel into the wastes. The high Iaseda lead a bloodquest after the infidel. Following her trail here we caught up with her, and chased her into the holy resting place of Amun-Re. Then by the amazing holy grace of Amun-re and Isis both the infidel and high Iaseda with his personal guard were claimed by the righteous power of Amun-re. Now or other Iaseda seek away to get the high Iaseda and his retinue back. The rest of us await their instruction. and prey at the holy fire for the high Iaseda's safe return."

Ahmet spreads his hands wide at these words. Then it is his turn to roll the bone dice and he is once again distracted.

“By golly chums, these chaps seem very wound up. Perhaps we should get them to give us a tour of the temple and tomb just in case they get upitty with us for wandering on our own. Now Vander I am sure this being a temple to the wonderous Osiron gods there will be some pretty shinies around the place. Let’s just keep our hands in our pockets so to speak. Their blasphemous worship of he who was little more than a vain man is bad enough, but this blood quest stuff doesn’t sound like twould be a barrel of laughs for us. Let’s just try to keep things happy dappy chappy for the moment yes wat wat.”

Sakinah places a hand on Rajeed's shoulder and whispers in his ear. "You realize I am a follower of the Dawnflower right? And am a Suli-jann? To these ones I am likely a walking heretic. Even though both my goddess and people are common through these lands." She whispered to him before standing back up, and looking around.
