Yeah, But...

Anyone who loves cats enough to have 7 of them definitely understands why I’m having a rough time, and having that many cats makes you extra awesome in my book. Thank you.

Yeah, But...

I must admit that the truly special cat person in my family is my wife. Without her I do not believe I would have that many cats. She does nearly all the cat feeding etc. though I do my share of litter-box cleaning and, of course, petting and tummy-rubbing.

Yeah, But...

Awwww. Sorry about your kitty.

We acquired a stray three weeks ago, out in the Everglades. Figure she got lost and couldn't find her way home. She was only about a year old. She was skin and bones, looking for food. Surprised she survived the panthers that prowl.

Brought her home. She was still getting used to the three people, three dogs and another cat in the house, but she wasn't skittish around people.

Took her to the vet last week. When bringing her out, a loud noisy truck scared her and she got loose and ran off.

The vet said she was pregnant.

She was well-fed, though, and wasn't in the Everglades any more, so maybe she'll find a new home.

Even though we only had her for two weeks, I still miss her.

Mercy Kincaid:
"Anyone have an idea of where we might be able to get fuel along the way?"

It's been so long since we looked at Black Talon's engines, I've forgotten what they are, so I'm not sure what the fuel is we need--coal, wood, kerosene?  As we seem to be thinking there might not be a Vril presence resident in Lakshadweep, we could probably resupply any of those three, right here.

Diesel Fuel, however...maybe.  IRL, Diesel Engines/Fuel weren't invented until 1892.  In Game, many such technologies have been invented earlier, but even so, Lakshadweep is kinda remote.  Of course, I don't recall what the engine for the submarine was supposed to be--was it purely electric, or did it carry an engine for surface power & battery charging, like a U-Boat?

In reply to Grimsby Baskerville (msg # 647):

My apologies, my friends, for my recent disappearance.

I injured both of my hands last week, and typing was a bit painful.  And, Big Wuss that I am, I chose not to just "suck it up" and Post Thru The Pain... ^_^

I have finally regained the use of 1 index finger and 1 thumb--on opposing hands, so I'm still not able to pop open my own beer, dammit!--and will try to get back into things ASAP.

And I especially apologize to those games that were in the middle of exciting things!

Oh my gosh that's awful! I'm so sorry! :( :( :(
And thank you everyone, for your kindness. You are all so supportive and I really appreciate it.

I'm planning on posting more frequently now. It all still royally sucks but it's not so much of a shock now. The vet said she was so little that there wasn't much that could have been done even if we had known she was sick. Sigh. Loving animals is hard sometimes. Meanwhile, my mother in law's cancer is looking good so far. Her surgery is coming up, so as long as it doesn't reveal anything wonky she'll be in the clear. *fingers crossed*

Yeah, But...

Denholm's hands were chewed up by another cat he had to extract from under some machinery where he works. He thinks she may have been the other cat's sister.

Having got her out, he brought her home, thoroughly traumatized, though. She spent four days in the bathtub before we had to move her to the back porch.

It's been a month now, and she's put on weight (cause we give her treats all the time!), lets (demands!) two of us pet her all the time, but she's still skittish and only now starting to venture into the house to explore.

She and our other rescue cat, a butterscotch tabby named Dodger, are still trying to decide who's boss. She's not bothered by the dogs, though. It was the funniest thing the other day... she was laying in one of the porch chairs when the three dogs--two chihuahuas and our BFD--strutted past in single file to go outside. And she didn't even bat an eye.

She's gotten very vocal lately. Starting to wonder if she's part Siamese.

And we're still trying to come up with a name for her! Help?

In reply to GM StarMaster (msg # 654):

My sympathy if your cat turns out to be part Siamese. We have one who is part Siamese and very vocal --also very willing to use any other means necessary to get our attention. The local shelter had run what was supposed to be a cute ad showing a cat in bed with its owner titled "Wake up to your new alarm clock." The first morning after we got our part Siamese, she woke my wife at 5 a.m. by chewing on my wife's hair, and the ad wasn't so cute anymore.

Hahahahaha! That's awful and I can't seem to stop laughing! I love cats but they do drive me crazy! Our cat is named Moxxi, and she lives up to the name. Every morning she demands I play with her. She begs at the door of whatever room I'm in by doing this little chirping meow. Then I have to slide these thick elastic hairbands across the hall for her to chase. I usually go for about half an hour before I have to stop and actually do something with my life. She's so demanding!

And that's great Starmaster! I love hearing stories where animals get rescued. Shows there is still some good in this world. As for a name...hm...what does she look like? That tends to help. I named one of our old cats Misha because she had the snobby, elegant look of a Russian supermodel. You know how they are really beautiful but kind of give you this sleepy, "I can't be bothered with you," look? I mean that in the best possible way by the way! She had a gorgeous face and high cheekbones and it ended up fitting her really well. Someday I want to get a cat and name it Mee-Mow.

She's gray and white. White belly and legs with a bit on the face, but a gray patch on the nose and under her chin like a goatee.

Maybe we should name her Dog (after the song). We have a harness and leash to take the cat for a walk, but Dodger would never sit still for it.

I was thinking Sam, short for Samantha because it rhymes with Pantha her sister's name.

She sounds beautiful! Misha was gray too! Though mostly gray with only a touch of white. Samantha is always a good name. I like calling them Sammy for short. Hm...otherwise, I'll start brainstorming!

We have a very elegant grey male cat with a white chest; his tail always seems to be straight up. Unfortunately, he came with the undignified name of Mickey, though I feel as if he should be at least Michael.

Yeah, But...

Lady Samantha has been coming inside through the cat door at night and exploring the house while we all slept, so the other day, we closed off the cat door when she was inside. She still wants to go outside and hide under the baker's rack, but she's slowly getting used to living inside now. She's commandeered the dining room table, but then we weren't using it much anyway.

Samantha update...

She's apparently reached an accord with Dodger (our other cat) and is now using part of the cat tree that he's never had an interest in. There's this little hut part that he's too big for, but she fits in it just fine. She also sleeps on top of it.

Tuesday, she climbed down from the cat tree onto the back of my recliner chair, then down to my shoulder and on to the chair arm, and from there decided it was okay to curl up in my lap so I could pet her.

She's turning into a real sweetheart. She still hasn't been spayed yet, and she's pooped on Vince's bed twice now. Not sure why she chose his bed and none of the others.

In reply to GM StarMaster (msg # 662):

Your Samantha sounds a little like our Violet, whom we brought in from the cold last winter after she started living under our back porch. She's only about one year old, and very slender --like your cat, she has not been spayed yet, and the vet says she may fill out once she's been fixed. She's also found a little round space in the cat tree that fits her nicely, and she also likes to climb over and cuddle with my wife, though she is still cautious around me.

Yeah, But...

In my 20+ years of PbP gaming on various sites, it was generally accepted that posting between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day diminished considerably due to Holidaze, work schedule changes, family, shopping, putting up decorations, etc. For that reason, expectations for timely posts was kind of put on hold.

In my case, this didn't usually apply to me, but this year, I seem to have hit a down cycle. It's probably a combination of age + health + meds + diet + environment + Holidaze. So, just bear with me while I sort it all out and hopefully get back on track in the new year.
