Hey guys, not sure when I will get the next update out, I have some real life issues to deal with, my father is in the ICU so I am somewhat distracted but will try and get around to it as soon as I get time.

Off Topic Discussions (OOC)

I was doing a little research into what British money was called in 1797.  I had always thought that 'Guinea' was just a nickname for 'Pound,' but it isn't.  A Pound was 20 shillings and a Guinea was 21 shillings!  Why would any sane government have two different coins so close in value?!?  Oh yeah, Britain.  :-)

Actually a little more research:  They were originally the same value, but the pound was in silver and the guinea was gold (sourced from the Guinea region of West Africa).  They drifted apart because the relative values of the metals changed.  People still refer to guineas (used in horse racing and auctions) and now it means 21 pounds, but it doesn't actually exist as a coin or note.

Sorry if I'm boring anybody; I've always wondered and I found it interesting so I thought I'd share.

Probably, waiting to see how many PC's we will have before deciding on NPC's.

I strongly recommend that the playing group does not split up, this is often a fatal error in my games.

There are several PC's who are not cadets that should also be joining this mission.

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers, my father passed away on Wednesday.  By the time he got to hospital the disease and infection were too far gone.  He fought as long as he could but there was a limited amount of time the hospital could administer the drugs and other treatment but he did not suffer, he told us there was no pain and he drifted off in his sleep.

For the gents in the press gang. I'll give you a bit of a heads up. You'll find Padraig in a pub. Now, I'm not saying anything should be done about that but I really didn't want to break up the fun you're having at the docks and on the street with a monolog in a different location.

Also, I'm not around much on weekends so please don't feel like I'm sluffing you off if I don't respond until Monday.

Back at the Academy, first names seemed fine for introductions. As officers of the Royal Navy, I suspect that more formal titles are appropriate, but I'm not bothered either way.

Ahh, I didn't realize it was different rules for different settings, so, of course, neither did Aaron.  He's probably more socially adept than I am, at least in his own circles, so perhaps he should have realized it, but the poor chap is limited by the shortcomings of his player.  I'll have him realize this in character.

OK so any action that could be interpreted as a 'to hit' roll should have a dice roll, 1d100 attached to your post just in case.  Better to have a dice roll and not need it Vs need one and not have it, just makes game play a bit quicker.  Same goes for grabbing hold of another player or NPC, often an Initiative Roll should probably also be added.

Over time I will add more clickable dice rolls to your character sheets, I have added one now for PERsonality checks which the cadets may need for attempts to recruit/persuade people etc

Off Topic Discussions (OOC)

Sorry guys but with only 3 active players I am struggling to keep this game going and we have drifted a long way from the original concept for this game.  I had hoped to have a group of players that worked together as a gun crew, take part in boarding parties together and as they gained more experience to rise in ranks and end up commanding your own ship.  Unfortunately just about every player at the start wanted to be an officer and the few who were regular sailors quit or ghosted.  This probably could have worked if I was running separate solo threads for everyone but it also means a hell of a lot of extra work for me.  I also botched the the whole character generation part of the game by trying to make it part of the introduction to the game.  I am now having to run far too many NPC's to keep the game going and as I try to scale things up for ship to ship combat the workload is more than I planned for, especially with only three players.  In short the game has become work rather than fun.

Thank you for playing, it was fun while it lasted but I think I need to focus more on my games that have a larger, more stable, playing group.

If you are interested in playing any of my other games I'd be happy to have you.  I have another game that uses this same rules set and has been on hiatus for quite some time that I would like to restart that perhaps you may be interested in?  You can check out the premise of this game here:  link to another game

I also have a Star Frontiers game, a Boot Hill game and two 1st Ed AD&D games here on RPoL so feel free to contact me if any of these games interest you.

All the best

Off Topic Discussions (OOC)

When I first started using RPoL the first game a ran here was a home-brewed game based on my favorite series of novels.  I made many mistakes.  I didn't understand how to get the most out of the Game Wiki or how write any code for automating dice rolls etc.  I didn't always communicate clearly with players and the game system was constantly being tweaked.  The game started out strongly and over time players came and went until eventually it faded to a halt.  I'd like to think things have improved since then.  I have run quite a few games here now and have 4 active, regular games with stable playing groups.

The Lost Regiment is still my favorite campaign to referee and I am much happier with the game mechanics now, the rule set has been play tested in a number of different scenarios and seems to work well, I just need to get better at running games and managing players :)

With a few years experience on RPoL under my belt now I'd like to try and restart this game and invite old players and new players to come and join the action.  Whilst there are many opportunities for role playing in this game, once the campaign really gets going there is a big focus on combat.  Players begin the game as privates in the Union Army but over time they have the opportunity to get promoted and take command of larger and larger formations?

Each player will have their own solo thread for solo play (something I should have done long ago) and there will also be opportunities for players of a similar activity level to work together in joint story adventures/threads.  All depending on the preferences of the players.

For more info on the campaign back ground, character generation and game mechanics, feel free to visit the site and if this sounds like the kind of game you might be interested in, please send an RTJ.

`````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
Characters for The Lost Regiment are members of the 35th Maine regiment, the 44th New York Light Artillery, sailors from the "Ogunquit" or nurses from the Christian Sanitation Commission.  Their birthplace, language and background should reflect this.
There are no Native American or African American members of any of these units however there may be a small number of immigrants from Europe.
Over the course of the campaign, players will have the opportunity to generate additional characters from the new civilizations their Yankee characters discover.  Rus, Roum and Chin characters allow players to explore multiple cultures and character options.
We'd need to tweak a couple of things as I gave new characters extra skills in this game as opposed to The Lost Regiment game however we should be able to port basic characters from this game to The Lost Regiment.  You will need to send an RTJ to join The Lost Regiment.  I did run an add for new players in the "Players Wanted" section so that is probably the best way to join.
I think this link should get you to the Wanted Players thread.
