OCC: Tavern Tales of the Transverse Triangle

Talk amongst yourselves. Since there's only 2 of y'all right now, you can discuss what level you first want to try things out at and what you two wish to play as for your first character(s)

OCC: Tavern Tales of the Transverse Triangle

Hello all. I look forward to trying this out together with you. I have only given Pathfinder 2e a cursory glance, so I'll be familiarising myself with the differences between it and 1e as well, but it shouldn't be an issue. As for what we'll be trying out, I would personally lean towards starting out if not lvl 1, then at least fairly low level. Mostly to keep it simple to begin with.

But I'm open to whatever, since I haven't really formed any opinions on 2e or the setting yet.

OCC: Tavern Tales of the Transverse Triangle

Hi Everyone!  Looking forward to testing out some PF2 stuff.  Like Mr.Gremlin, I have very little practical experience with PF2 - even if I do own the core rules (and Dark Archive).  So, I'll be fumbling around a fair bit to start with.

Level 1 is fine with me - presumably with jumps in advancement (like after 2-3 combats or so) to see how stuff scales as we level up.  Starting levels would keep the options streamlined, until we were ready for more.

But, despite a desire to keep things simple, I am looking at a caster (i.e. a Psychic)... so, maybe I am just a glutton for punishment?  Also, is it bad form to ask if when picking race, whether a rare one - like Automaton - is okay?  I am okay with sticking to the core races (well, with mutant thrown in the mix) as well.  Interested to see how the 'Free Archetype' option works.

Oh, and the link that GammaKnight provide to the online PF2 character building app is pretty nice (though unless you pay, you cannot access the Free Archetype template).

EDIT:  I guess the only thing about level 1 is that it doesn't really leverage the Free Archetype template (yet).  But, of course, that will roll around at level 2 - so, maybe accessible after only a couple of combats.

Correct, but instead you can open up another character and just pull that race/archetype/class up to see what you want and then just put it on your character sheet here.

Re: OCC: Tavern Tales of the Transverse Triangle

A question about the setting. Is it meant to be a postapocalyptic version of our world, or a postapocalyptic version of a fantasy world?
Like, did all the weird stuff only show up after the Bad StuffTM happened, or did magic and monsters already exist, but got worse and out of whack after the apocalypse?

Just so I got an idea what we're adjusting to when trying to fit the PF stuff in.

EDIT:
Og, and I'm thinking I'll try out the gunslinger first.

Re: OCC: Tavern Tales of the Transverse Triangle

I'm trying to remain as setting neutral as possible, but we'll go with the standard GW one. This mean that it's our world after a nuclear war that destroyed everything and "humanity" is just now coming back to the tech levels of Pathfinder 's Golarion.

Re: OCC: Tavern Tales of the Transverse Triangle

Sight, so remnants of our world, with added apocalypse weirdness. Gotcha.

You mention that gunpowder weapons are prevalent. Do you mean like people still are able to use modern guns, or that we've just gotten around to flintlocks, and more modern guns are tech found in ruins and barely understood?

Re: OCC: Tavern Tales of the Transverse Triangle

Gunpowder weapons, as well as clockwork, are in their infancy. It's not unusual to see somebody walking around with a firearm of some sort, but they are out of reach if most people. There's always some town weirdo messing around with ancient and/or clockwork technology.

Re: OCC: Tavern Tales of the Transverse Triangle

Right, nice. I think that means the gunslinger wouldn't really need to be changed or anything to fit the setting. Except flavor, maybe.

Re: OCC: Tavern Tales of the Transverse Triangle

Hi folks!

There's me too. I third the suggestion of Pathbuilder and paying the one-off fee. It is excellent.

Of the listed classes, by elimination of those I'm not really interested in (or am already playing), I'll probably go with one of:

Monk, Rogue, and Swashbuckler (& maybe a dextrous Fighter)

Hmmm...I might resuscitate a Fetchling Swashbuckler from a game that died, move him down to level 1. Or a gnome rogue from another game that died. (Sheesh!) They were nice characters and I'm getting tired of making characters and them only lasting so long.

Re: OCC: Tavern Tales of the Transverse Triangle

Ok a very generic character built done and dusted unless we are all going to play gunslingers and be like a band of outlaws ;)

Re: OCC: Tavern Tales of the Transverse Triangle

So I'm guessing that's two done with their characters. How's everyone else?
