Tesseryn shuffles his armoured feet, glancing over his shoulder to see if anyone noticed his failure to remedy yet another unholy object.  Composing himself he finally enters the room beyond the statue and looks about.  His attention settles on the frame that held the mirror and crunches over the shattered glass to investigate more closely.

Wrukaog doesn't often look satisfied or amused with himself, and now is no exception. He hoists Tessy Junior back up off of the ground and falls in line once again.

The orc plucks his javelin from the air once it's within reach, releasing a flat "Thank you."

When we're all together, Wrukaog will remain at the rear, pending any more furniture needing vanquishing. If we split, he'll stick with the halfling that has fewer people with him in an effort to ensure their safety.

Now that everyone seems ready to move on again Brindle will lead the way down the western corridor to the junction at the western end to see what is down each of those corridors.

Re: The Dark Tower - the Village of Mitra's Fist

Brindle leads the way down the narrow passage, Cogwitz at his heels.  Tesseryn pauses for a moment or two to sternly regard the remains of the mirror, not exactly admiring the skull-motif frame, before following on.  Leisha and Aurion come next, with Wrukaog holding a threatening position at the rear, the silver statue of Mitra tucked underneath his arm.

Those of you who need to breathe take but a few steps before the fetid stench becomes noticeable, and by the time you are half way down the corridor it is all any of you can do not to lose the contents of your stomachs.  After that it gets bad ...

Any brave souls who make it to the end are rewarded with the view of a room about 50 feet long by 40 feet wide with a floor strewn with human skeletons, bones and rotting corpses.  There is a dank patch of water towards the far end of the room, and the opposite wall is covered in ragged drapes (just plain black for a change), that afford the merest glimpse of another chamber beyond.

But, perhaps more excitingly, nearby you spot two large creatures with many legs and segmented bodies that somewhat resemble slugs, though abhorrently big ones with more teeth and tentacles, and which appear to be contributing generously to the overall unbearably obnoxious odor as they feed upon two of the corpses, for the moment more interested in the not-so-recently dead than the living.

OOC: Map of the proceedings updated ...

Fort save vs DC13 for all, unless you have specific immunity, else Nauseated (can't attack/cast spell etc - can only take single move action per turn)

"I detect a faint hint of putrification in the air."  Tesseryn is untroubled by the smell as he clanks past the halflings to swing his greatsword wildly at the nearest beast.  "Die now vile creature, and leave the dead to rest in peace!"

Cogwitz caught wind of the smell second as he traveled behind Brindle down the hall.  He thought he might lose his earlier meal, but with quick thinking he began to breathe through his mouth.

Then suddenly Tesseryn rushes past him and struck out at whatever the beasts were inside.

Cogwitz took his chance to find a path to possibly flank the creatures and attack.
(Can I get into position?  I will roll when I find out.)

Leisha wrinkles her nose, but keeps her composure, a slight greenish cast to her skin being the only visible sign that the smell bothers her at all.

She considers suggesting that we simply ignore the creatures and continue on, hopefully to better-smelling chambers.  Indeed, she has already worked something about not needing to `slug it out' into her planned proposal, but Tesseryn's charge stops her before she speaks.  She resists sighing, as the required inhale would be unpleasant.

Brindle slows his steps as the smell gets worse and worse. When he finally sees the awful scene in front of him he finally loses the battle with his stomach. He staggers a step forward and to the left, just inside the room and left of the entrance where he heaves up his breakfast all over the wall beside him. He clutches the glowing pebble tightly in one hand an a wand in the other.

Re: The Dark Tower - the Village of Mitra's Fist

On some days wrukaog's breath might rival the stench in the hallway. Upon reaching the entryway, however, is where the putrid odor finally manages to outperform the orc's mouth, even in its prime.

00:12, Yesterday: Secret Roll: Skald, on behalf of Wrukaog, rolled 26 using 1d20+12.  Fort Save vs DC13.
He doesn't seem to mind the smell much at all, really. A waste heap outside of an orcish warcamp with mounds of rotting pig (and humanoid) carcasses festering in the sun at least makes modest competition with this, and that smells like home to him.
That's what you get for taking one level of four different good fortitude classes >_>

The orc lets Tessy Junior down in the quickly-becoming-customary (un)gentle fashion. While the one hand continues to hold his axe, the other newly-free hand is used to draw a javelin as he makes his way toward the room down the hallway. Once inside, he'll hurl it at whichever creature he's got a clearer shot at.

09:26, Today: Wrukaog rolled 15 using 1d20+7.  Javelin vs. one of the thingies.
09:26, Today: Wrukaog rolled 9 using 1d6+7.  javelin damage.

30' movement into the room wouldn't quite get him within range of one of them.
If the orc can charge, somehow, with that many people in the hallway, then he'd do that instead of the javelin toss.
This no-initiative thing still vexes me.

Re: The Dark Tower - the Village of Mitra's Fist

With the sweet scent of true devotion, Tesseryn is remarkably unaffected by the terrible stench.  Indeed, sighting the creatures feeding upon the fallen causes him to stride forward, intent upon ending such an outrage, though his blade goes awry as he treads in something nasty.

Such boldness serves to inspire Cogwitz who rushes forward in Tesseryn's wake, picking his path carefully to place himself at the other end of the creature (alas, the sharp and pointy end), taking advantage of the distraction that the Paladin provides to slash at one of the abominations, opening a long gash in its side, from which thick green ichor oozes, doing little to improve the ambience.

Further back, Leisha struggles to keep her last meal down, not even daring to utter the jest that sits on the tip of her tongue, lest she loses the fight.  Aurion is not much better, but is able to send a crossbow bolt whistling past her ear, over Brindle's head, and well clear of everybody and everything in the chamber beyond.

Hot on the heels of the bolt, and with no ill-effects at all from the putrid stench (indeed, the Orc seems to actually enjoy it) Wrukaog lumbers down the narrow corridor, pushing past those in his way to hurl a javelin at the nearest of the nasties, piercing it through and wounding it grievously.

As further ichor issues from the wound, Brindle finally looses his struggle and contributes mightily to the general mess.

The wounded creature turns its head towards Cogwitz, jaws and tentacles writhing ... but it seems it is in no mood to contest its meal, instead choosing to slither away, its many legs clattering and squelching and the javelin that pierces it waving about wildly as it heads to the perceived safety of the far end of the room.

Its companion is rather less perturbed, swiveling about with a surprising turn of speed to lash Tessryn with its tentacles.

At the same time the large puddle towards the rear of the room starts moving slowly towards Cogwitz ...

Wrukaoag smriks at Brindle and the new wall decoration and then steps up beside Tessy Sr. As he does so, he brings his axe with him in a nicely controlled, broad stroke over the top of Cogwitz's head with over a foot of clearance, with the intention to cut deeply into the length of creature.

As the thing swung around that he had just slashed at, Cogwitz wondered if he had erred, but then the thing began to slither away instead with the javelin in its back.  AoO?

He then realized as the water puddle in the corner of the room began to move that the two creatures weren't the only adversary here.  Thankfully the thing moved suprizingly slow which gave Cogwitz a chance to assess the situation and make an action.  He knew there was no way he could affect the ooze that now crept towards him so he moved behind and to the side of Tessyrn to id him in the attack of the other creature.

Through divine grace Tesseryn masters the paralysing poison without difficulty.  "Victory is ours!" he declares prematurely, inspired by the display of axe and knife work and forgetting his own failure with the sword.  Then noticing the ooze he shouts a warning. "Beware!  A sinister puddle draws near."  Having no means to fight such an abomination, he seeks to protect his companions.  He grasps the nearby mouldering corpse and lobs it in front of Wrukaog in the hope of deterring or distracting the ooze.  "Forgive me." he mutters, reproaching himself for such ignominious handling of the dead.

Coming down the hallway, Leisha frowns.  "Nigh," she suggests.  "`Draws nigh' seems more in your idiom.  I'm not sure puddles really count as furniture," she notes.  "Though I suppose they can be mirroresque.  Well, let me take a look.  What color is it?" she asks, as she approaches Brindle and starts edging around him for a better view.

Tesseryn straightens up from the mouldering corpse and glances back at Leisha.  He seems rather pleased at the notion that others are becoming aware of his idiom ... and 'nigh' really is a better choice.  "Indeed."  He nods his agreement to Leisha, vaguely wondering why he expects to hear a clop-clopping of coconut shells as she advances down the passage.  The thought quickly vanishes as a hail of stones clatter down nearby pummelling the puddle of ooze, surely another sign of divine aid.  "Praise Dauros!  And praise Mitra too..." he adds as an afterthought, not really sure which of those particular deities was responsible for the rockfall, but certain that neither would take offence - surely its good to have backup, even when you're a god.

Re: The Dark Tower - the Village of Mitra's Fist

Wrukaog's blow is both accurate and mighty, merely ruffling Cogwitz's pony tail as it cuts through the air to all but carve the carrion creature in twain, as Tesseyn would have it, even nigh on cleaved asunder if the Paladin enlisted Leisha's assistance to choose his words.  The Halfling's blade also finds its mark, as Cogwitz strikes with deadly accuracy, and the beast slumps to the floor, most definitely dead, as the Orc might very plainly put it in sooth or not.

As Brindle, sickened by the stench, most noisily and messily expels from his gullet meals long past, Aurion recalls and recasts one he prepared earlier and, much to the Paladin's obvious delight, causes a hail of stones to pelt not only the cowardly and craven other carrion crawler, slaying that one too, but also the strangely ambulatory puddle, to great splashy effect, even as Tesseryn reluctantly heaves (somewhat more productively than Brindle) a handy moldering corpse.

The stones pause the puddle's advance, if momentarily, though the said moldering corpse certainly garners its attention, as the puddle flows around it, the remaining scraps of rotted cloth dissolving immediately upon contact.

The Paladin offers thanks as Leisha moves forward, carefully and fastidiously avoiding contact with Brindle who's coming the other way in an extremely unwell manner.  The young woman bravely peers into the quite nasty chamber, the smell not enhanced by the addition of another two dead things.

The marginally cleaner air down the tunnel finally allows Brindle to recover. He gasps in relief for a second then bravely turns around to have another go at facing that dreadful stench. He hurries back down the tunnel and squeezes past Leisha to a spot where he can see that nauseating puddle of ooze. He points his wand and speaks the command word [Language unknown: "Diiepeio!"] to shoot a quartet of orange-glowing missiles at the puddle.
