The Dark Tower - Level The Second
"Couldn't tell you, I'm afraid," the door informs Tesseryn. "I've heard of Set of course ... and Mitra too ... though only by reputation."
"You're very welcome," Hargrove tells Brindle as the Halfling helps himself to the pile of coins, though as the Paladin sallies forth he sounds a little distracted by what is happening further down the corridor.
As Leisha and Tesseryn exchange words (the term conversation might imply that either really knew what the other was talking about), Aurion scampers past to be the first to the far end of the passway.
Sydni ... is not so fine a door as Hargrove. Indeed, one might say he has fallen on hard times, with peeling varnish, rusted hinges and a handle blackened with use and age, though the coins that are piled on the floor before him are greater in number, just shy of a thousand, perhaps - a mixture of gold and electrum, which you don't see much nowadays. Nevertheless, he too seems eager to make friends.
"Well hello, Aurion," Sydni responds warmly. "That diamond ?" there is a note of surprise in his tones as if he's only just noticed it lying there. "Why, absolutely nothing. Old Hargy is a bit of a miser, you see - he'd just hang on to it, putting it to no good use whatever ... whereas I'd be perfectly willing to sell it to you ... for a good price too."
"It's mine anyway. I'd have it now if Hargrove hadn't persuaded a thief to try to take it from me ..."
