The Dark Tower - Level The Second

Though the banter induces a certain itchiness in poor Tesseryn, ne'ertheless, the brave Paladin follows a safe distance behind Wrukaog and the statue of Mitra, while everyone else follows an even safer distance right behind him.

The floor of the tunnel slopes downwards, neither particularly steeply nor particularly rough underfoot, and you walk for perhaps half a minute before the big Orc stops, waiting for a couple of seconds for you all to catch up and survey what lies beyond, whether using your gods-given darksight or the lights helpfully conjured by Brindle.

The tunnel gives way to a more regular stone passage, fashioned much the same as those on the level now above you. To the south, almost straight ahead, the passage continues on around thirty feet to a plain wooden door.  To the west the passage is clear for about twenty feet, then is filled with fog.  To the east about ten feet away, the passage branches in a gentle curve, left and right around a wall of beautiful white marble.

"Hmmm.  Evil reveal yourself."  Tesseryn mutters as he steps forward into the intersection and glares down each passage in turn.

Eyeing the fog filled passage, Aurion comments to Leisha "Another mist opportunity. Does this fog look the same as that outside the naga's abode? I wonder if they are connected in some way, although I recall that Omphalos warned you to avoid that mist filled passage." He steps forward next to Tesseryn and casts Detect Magic.

Brindle nods when he hears what Aurion says.

"Yes, I remember Omphalos saying that. I am also inclined not to open doors until the unobstructed passages are checked first. I wouldn't be surprised if those curved passages go right round in a circle, so shall we explore that way first?"

"Perhaps someone else could accompany you Master Thistlefoot. I will stay here and check for magical hazards." Aurion replies distractedly. "If there are any you'll be the first to know."

Wrukaog looks at the door to the south, weighing his greataxe in his hand speculatively.

"If you cannot open it..." he mutters while producing a half-grin aimed at the door, exposing teeth ranging in shades from off-white to brown.

He then makes his way after Brindle toward the curved passages to the east and starts walking around the northeast passage.

As Tesseryn and Aurion study the options before them, Wrukaog and Brindle set off towards the east and the curving passage around the marble wall.

Deepening his voice, Aurion mimicks Tesseryn's pompous tone, "Magic is present.  I shall wait here and learn more."

Brindle catted happily as he followed Wrukaog around the curved passage.

"This passage is really groovy, isn't it, Wrukaog? What do you think caused that? Maybe there used to be hundreds of monks walking round and round with their hands trailing along the inner wall there, halfway up the wall? Not Halfling or gnome or goblin monks, of course. That groove in the wall is probably too high up for someone my size to have made it."

Having announced the presence of both evil and magic, Tesseryn and Aurion concentrate mightily, striving to understand what it is they can sense.

Meanwhile, Brindle and Wrukaog continue around the curving corridor, the Halfling merrily speculating as to what could possibly have made the groove on the wall of white marble.
