Re: COMMENT THREAD 3

No, I was just offering my opinion.  I do think we should get above ground, however I would hate to pass up the chance cure the disease.

I don't.  I thought the old man might.  Do we know how he (or our companion from before) got it?

The gnome might have some insights on how to cure the disease and what lay around us.  I think too we should seek him out and see what he knows.

Re: COMMENT THREAD 3

Tahldar won't mind resting and eating, though he will insist that we cook the food.  As well we should take what we want to cook outside the room then close the door to help keep it cold so the other meat doesn't spoil.  This is assuming the meat hasn't spoiled already.  If anyone has a way to detect poison that would be wise.

Health,  is there any wood lying around we can use as fuel?

Re: COMMENT THREAD 3

Another thing to consider is them smell of cooking food may draw any monster around to us.  This would be bad.  I saw we back track to the place where we entered, lower a rope down into the cell where there was healing water and rest there.  Hopefully the water will heal Malissin and we'll be safe to do whatever we want.  Assuming of course nothing comes down the rope, or flying through the hole we created, to harass us.

Re: COMMENT THREAD 3

I will answer questions in the main game thread.

Really, this thread is for those related to improving the game itself, the game rules, or the game mechanics, not the specifics of the adventure.

Kahan, I will cast reduce on the door so you can save the wand, but I am waiting for answers to a few questions I have asked Heath.  I primarily want to know if we heard the voices coming from behind the moving west wall or not.

Re: COMMENT THREAD 3

I was going to cast on the northern wall first, but this works.  I'll cast another reduce on the northern wall this turn which should allow the water to drain and hopefully allow us to move on through the south passage.

How many giants are patrolling the prison walls?  There are two out front for sure, but I'd like to know for sure how many are patrolling the walls.

Given the distance, it is hard to tell.  You are looking a long way in a fairly dark, underground tunnel with only the occasional glowing purple crystals to light your way.  He puts the number at between 2-5 but only reconaissance would really let him get a more accurate number.

Re: COMMENT THREAD 3

Could we use the boats they have to get across to the island, or are they too big to navigate by humans?

Re: COMMENT THREAD 3

They could be navigated by large, strong humans.  They have oars and are about 4-5 times the size of normal canoes--small by giant standards, but large by human standards.

Re: COMMENT THREAD 3

We don't have time to wait and rest, so we need to attack now.  But how?  I figured I'd write this out in OOC.  Heath, let me know and I'll move it to IC if you wish.

By my count we have 8 in our party.  Borimer, Donovan Redmond, Hatchman, Kahan Singh, Lukas Rimshank, Shae Shadowglen, Shapfren Diditlew, and Tahldar.

I can cast invisibility on three and cast dimension door on myself to get over to the island.  Dimension door only works on myself.  Shapfren can cast two more invisibility spells.  This is a total of 6 to attack the island.  Leaving two to create a diversion to the south, though these two would have to be fairly strong since they will have to navigate a boat by themselves to the island once they have triggered their diversion.

Too, there is the issue of a boat being navigated by no one (but really the 5 invisible party members) which would draw the Giants on the islands attention.  For this I'm thinking Shapfren would somehow use her illusion spells to create fake Giants to make it appear they are in the boat and doing the rowing.

Thoughts?

Re: COMMENT THREAD 3

This can be OOC, but it should still be in the main game thread.  The idea is so that people don't have to look at a bunch of threads to follow what is going on currently in the game.

OK, before we get started on this rescue, I got a question.  Would there happen to be any pile of large rocks in the nearby area?

don't want to get out in the middle of the water and have giants lobbing rocks at us

There are a number of porous rocks all around, most of them between the size of your fist and the size of your head.  That is a common occurrence by "lava tube" caves.

Re: COMMENT THREAD 3

I am reviewing some of the characters regarding reactions and potential future issues.  Please keep in mind the charisma of your characters as you roleplay.  Borimer and Tahldar have the lowest charismas, and Shapfren, Shae and Hatchman have the highest charismas.  The others range from average to high, with Kahan being next highest.

Therefore, when they speak, keep in mind your character's potential reactions to them based on this, and note that I use this score whenever possible (since it is underused in the rules).

Re: COMMENT THREAD 3

DM Heath:
Junar says, "That island where they take prisoners for play and for eating.  Maybe more prisoners inside building.  That where I escape from.  Giants take it from gnomes, knock down walls and use as their own."

If we reach the island will we be able to access the buildings inside the island?  The walls are knocked down so I assume so.

Also, I gained a level.  Will my extra spells and slots be available for this upcoming battle?

edit:  three Giants have left the shore near us.  Does this leave two more?  Can we reach a canoe without having to fight any giants?

Re: COMMENT THREAD 3

You will have to find access to the building, though that doesn't appear like it will be a huge problem.  If nothing else, you can probably access it from the roof.

Upon leveling, you get all physical attributes (hit points, increased ability scores) for the increased leveling, but you don't actually get spells until you rest and learn them (though you can scribe them and have other benefits of the higher level).

That said, let me remind the newcomers of the House rule about increasing ability scores:

HOUSE RULES OF CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT:

Every 3 levels, you may raise one of any attribute by one point (up to your allowed maximum).  So at level 3, you could raise a 15 strength to 16, and then to 17 at level 6, and so forth.

Every 5 levels, you may raise your prime requisite attribute by 1 point (such as Wisdom for clerics).

Yes, this means that at level 15 you may raise two attributes.

Re: COMMENT THREAD 3

Can I get a quick recap of what is going on and what we're supposed to be doing? I think I'm on the island with the giants but I'm not sure what the plan for us was. If its 'Go and stab all the giants!' then I'm pretty sure we're gonna die.
