OOC Discussion 5

!!!===IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT===!!!

We have a new character creation thread and rules.

We have streamlined a lot of the process to make sheetwork and rewards easier and faster.

The update will use ONE reward: Battle Points.

You spend BP to buy items, buy levels, buy race points and even buy additional sourcebooks. All rewards and penalties will simply be an amount of BP.

NO MORE SHEETWORK WILL BE ALLOWED FOR ANYONE UNTIL THEY UPDATE TO THE NEW FORMAT (which you submit a sheetwork request to do so).

Everyone will be updated within the next 3 months or REMOVED FROM THE GAME (that's 90+ days, plenty of time).

PLEASE READ OVER THE CHARACTER CREATION THREAD AND LEARN MORE ABOUT HOW THIS WILL ALL WORK.

That is all.

THANK YOU FOR READING. STAY AWESOME!

Re: OOC Discussion 5

Woah... this BP stuff is intense. I'm not sure I understand it at the moment. it's going to take a bit of reading to completely grasp this.

Edit: So yeah, i'm lost. How exactly do we determine what our current BP is?

Re: OOC Discussion 5

You don't. The GMs will do all the calculations for you.

Once we have you updated, all you need to do is spend it like a shopping spree.

It will allow you to change out gear and change levels so much more easily. You can even UPGRADE your race if you want by buying alternate racial traits and tacking them on.

And you don't have to sacrifice feats for higher race points either.

Re: OOC Discussion 5

So given that you no longer gain hero points for winning fights or leveling up, I take it Monster Hunts and such are going to cost Battle Points now?

Re: OOC Discussion 5

No, Brakt, we're calculating your new BP based on your existing GP, items and XP. Everyone should start at 300+ since everyone has acquired at least some gp/xp since creation and many of you got at least half the bonus.

No, we'll still have hero points. It just wasn't added to character creation. Hero points are not scheduled to change as of right now.

Re: OOC Discussion 5

We mostly just need you all to line up in an orderly fashion to receive the update. You don't have to do anything but request it and wait.

And while you're waiting, read up on how it works and learn how to use it.

Most of you will be pleasantly surprised that it not only makes the process easier, it gives you a bit more freedom to tweak your gold/xp/race points.

Do I have to request a conversion in my pending sheetwork, or is it already on your radar since it's... well, sheetwork?

Re: OOC Discussion 5

If you have sheetwork pending we're going to convert you.

Krumm has already been converted and you're next.

But I'm tired and have a super busy weekend ahead of me so you'll all have to be patient. Learn the system in the meantime.

I have pending sheet work (mostly buying stuff) ; need I post a new request? Or scrap this one and post a request specifically for the battle point conversion ?

I've read through the new character creation thread. Good stuff! Looks like it's going to streamline a lot of things.
I'm a bit worried about the multiclass stuff though (mostly because I don't have access to the book at the moment) --I have a feeling this is going to tune Josep down a little...

GM Arkrim:
3 guild masters enter.

Each competes to defeat the most monsters wave after wave and puts their very different skills to the test. That sounds awesome!

While this does sound awesome, I'm not going an other wave-after-wave kind of fight any time soon. It is very time consuming...

Re: OOC Discussion 5

I don't think I like the multiclass new rules, thats gonna take some research to see if its worth giving up half my feats for a portion of the class abilities.

The formula
quote:
ADVANCEMENT AND LOOT (house rule)
Winner: (Opponent's BP * 30) / (Your BP) = BP earned (round down, minimum 1)
Draw/Runner Up: (Opponent's BP * 20) / (Your BP) = BP earned (round down, minimum 1)
Loser/Yield: (Opponent's BP * 10) / (Your BP) = BP earned (round down, minimum 1)

Opponent's BP and Your BP is that total earned, or what was spent on charracter (I.E. weapons, race, traits, ...), or how much you currently have?

I can see the possibilities and how powerful it has the potential to be - primarily with spell casters and those that want some spellcasting ability, but my beef with it is that sometimes you only want to take a dip into a certain class, not progress with it. Like with Ugrim, i took a 1 level dip into the fighter class to gain some extra feats so i wouldn't have to waste feat slots on getting horrible feats so i could get awesome feats. Now, from the looks of things, I would have to use the variant multiclassing system to go fighter and I wouldn't even get the bonus feats from doing so, so what's the point?

Not to mention - how do prestige classes work now? It doesnt seem theres room for things like Arcane Archer or Assassin when using the variant system.

Also also, to quote the character creation thread:
quote:
However, you can have only up to 2 base classes and 1 prestige

This bit of text suggests that normal multi classing rules can still be used from my perspective as this is unchanged from when normal multiclassing rules were in place. Sure using the variant multiclassing rules would cover the 2 base classes side of things but what about the prestige?

also also also - http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classe...ariant-Multiclassing

To summarize - I think variant multiclassing is a cool idea and one that would work pretty good... if it was actually any good. At the expense of half my feats though i think that it is a rarely good idea - especially when what i want from another class isn't even offered by the table presented on the SRD.

However, if the GMs can think of a fair way to let us use our BP to buy back the lost feat from using the variant multiclass system, then i might consider going down that rout with some of my other characters. not with ugrim though. Its a 1 lvl dip into fighter for the feats or bust for him.

Re: OOC Discussion 5

1) If you can't provide a solution, don't complain. Your feelings aren't useful here. Save that for your psychologist.

2) It's about reducing paperwork and making character sheets easier to track.

3) Hypothetically, the only other alternative we had was 1/2 and 1/2 where we follow the same multiclassing rules from 3.5 where if one class is more than 1 higher level than another you take penalties (or in this case, simply not allowed). That would force everyone who was Brawler 5, Barbarian 1 to become Brawler 3, Barbarian 3 and so on and so forth.

"Dipping" itself is the problem. It makes tracking near-impossible. If we had more GMs as dedicated to sheetwork as Sehly and me (at LEAST two more) we MIGHT be able to sustain the normal multiclass. As it is, we cannot. The arena has grown too big and it's STILL growing. That's a good thing, but it comes at a cost.

It's simply a matter of sustainability like it or not.

BP purchasing will allow a lot of new possibilities in the future. We're still exploring more and more as we go.

Oh yeah, and thanks for the link!

Re: OOC Discussion 5

Interesting points you make Ugrim, and thanks for the link!

Right now, it seems that the only way I could keep Josep's features would be to switch him to primary sorcerer and secondary wizard (the opposite of what he is now)

However, if that's really how we're going to handle multiclass from now on... well I guess I'll get used to it.

Re: OOC Discussion 5

If you guys don't like the new multiclass, you're welcome to offer solutions that will be CONSIDERED, but don't offer complaints or "woe-is-mes".

As it is, no multiclassers have been updated yet.

But you're on a timer to find a solution you're happy with and offer it to us. :P
