Re: Monster Mash #8: Hiro vs. Josep vs. Latro

An umbral mass unfolds into a tangle of spidery legs and horrible mandibles, rising up to a monstrous height to bring its cluster of glowing red eyes to bear.

Latro smiles at the site of the monstrosity he has at his command.

Re: Monster Mash #8: Hiro vs. Josep vs. Latro

In the corner opposite to Latro's evil and monstrous spider, a creature of similar size appears. She is is reptilian, stocky with short stout legs and a reddish hide. On her shoulders, a tangle of necks protrude, sending a number of comparatively small heads some twelve feet up. He slithering mass of snake-like heads makes it difficult to count... But there appears to be almost a dozen of them.

Re: Monster Mash #8: Hiro vs. Josep vs. Latro

Finally a small blue-green dragon swoops into the arena, settling on the ground as the anti-flying magic takes hold. It rears back and roars into the arena... but no sound issues from its throat.

Re: Monster Mash #8: Hiro vs. Josep vs. Latro

Commanding his umbral undead to make quick work of the dragon while it was still unprepared, the Nightskitter launches an umbral web of shadow stuff towards the brine dragon, encasing it in energy draining webbings. The Nightskitter then climbs the wall to make itself unavailable for a counter attack by the dragon.

Re: Monster Mash #8: Hiro vs. Josep vs. Latro

From the guildmaster's lounge, where Josep, Hiro, and Latro are controlling their beasts, the battle seems scary... all three creatures have impressive tools in their repertoire, and in a battle between three the tide and odds can change very swiftly...

Josep's chosen monster is slow. Desperately so. His first move is to gallop as fast as possible to come up close with the others.

Re: Monster Mash #8: Hiro vs. Josep vs. Latro

Better brush up on those negative levels Hiro, cause theres going to be a lot of them.

quote:
Negative Levels: -1 to all d20 rolls per negative level, -10 HP per negative level, -1 to AC/CMD per 2 negative levels, -1 effective HD per negative level. The HD penalty affects caster level, character level for spell resistance, class level for uncanny dodge, HD vs. sleep, color spray and similar effects and treats your CR as lower for the purposes of arena immunities.

Because the negative level effects your effective HD, the DC for your breath weapon is one lower, which means its a DC21 reflex save for half damage, which i just so happened to roll.

12:17, Today: Latro Dectus rolled 21 using 1d20+14 with rolls of 7.  DC21 Reflex.

Re: Monster Mash #8: Hiro vs. Josep vs. Latro

The night skitter has barely enough time to contort itself to dodge the dragon's breath. It shoots another strand of umbral webbing at the dragon to continue weakening it. After that, it spooders down the wall until its safe enough to drop without repercussions and then spooders away from the dragon.

Re: Monster Mash #8: Hiro vs. Josep vs. Latro

The Hydra rushed straight into the mist, but instead of attacking the dragon as one might have guessed she would, she emerges on the other side, still a neutral element in this battle of monsters.

Re: Monster Mash #8: Hiro vs. Josep vs. Latro

So Josep, regardless of if your hydra can drop into the -1 portion of the pit and then emerge back out on the upper platform as part of your run action, I'm going to have to rules you for a moment.

quote:
You can't run across difficult terrain or if you can't see where you're going.

Specifically the part about "can't see where you're going" is what I'm more concerned about than anything as obscuring mist is very good about not letting things see other things beyond 5 feet, which you designated ending point happens to be.
