Re: Championship #15: Battle for the Belt

Latro needed defences, and quickly. Summoning three daggers of force into existence, the magical weapons float around him.
He steps off the platform, floating daintily to the ground before finding cover and disappearing into the maze-like structure of the arena.

Re: Championship #15: Battle for the Belt

“Josep, my old ‘friend.’ ” Haran grinned at the soon-to-be-dead wizard. “How are you today?”

“Why didn’t he say ‘Hi’ to me Haran?” “Shut up.”

Haran surveyed the field and began to weave a spell. His only defeat occurred at the hands of Josep and one of his cronies. What was her name again? Aahh, that’s right Vile Ann… Josep was the biggest threat. That said, Haran didn’t care for the Orgre or that pretender Dectus.

“What to do? What to do?”

“I know.” Haran slammed his hands together, finishing the spell. A blackness spread over his corner of the arena. The darkness was beyond that of even deeper darkness, even darkvision was obscured. “Darkness will consume you all.”

Haran, even if we don’t see you, you should let us know what actions you took (free, swift, move, etc.)
Could you clarify that before I take my turn? It’s unlikley to concern you anyway, I have a big ogre on my doorstep.

Just a question to Haran, did you account in your stealth roll the fact that you're taking a -20 to your roll due to spell casting and talking and the like?

I would say yes minions get the free at the beginning of the turn except animal companions in the process of performing a trick.

I know it's hard not to meta game but if you do not speak summons language info may not be relayed to you easily.

Does the natural 20 pinpoint Haran ?
(I promise I won’t metagame with this information, but I may have a chat with the Elementals !)

@Latro: I believe the -20 for casting and +20 for being virtually invisible cancel each other out, don’t they?

In reply to Josep Gavinho (msg # 76):

Technically speaking, nothing gives you that +20 to stealth for being virtually invisible except for invisibility itself (which is the standard +20, +40 if completely immobile and no sound is made.). So unless Haran cast some quickened invisibility, which is completely possible, that bonus to stealth should be right round mine currently.

While you’re there, could you also check whether Haran actually cast 3 spells in one round?
His effects like suggests that, which has me very intrigued/interested.

Re: Championship #15: Battle for the Belt

The Air Elementals do what they do best: unleash a flurry of windy slams on an unsuspecting target... the ogre is badly beaten but still standing.

Josep turns his attention to the others... but they’re either too coward or too smart to face him.

He instead  focused on the ogre at the foot of his pedestal... and releases a quick succession of rays and missiles, all striking true and ruining the ogre for good.

Re: Championship #15: Battle for the Belt

On behalf of Brakt, id like to call a foul and point out that magic missile needs a touch attack roll for each missile for it to be a legal spell.

I request that the spell fizzle with no effect and the spell wasted, resulting in 19 less damage received for Brakt.

I have no clue what Brakt's plan is, but having someone that close to josep is an opportunity i can't afford to go to waste.

Re: Championship #15: Battle for the Belt

Aww, you and your fouls... it won’t get you out of fighting this time though.

The Pathfinder Arena:
Spell (Magic Missile)
This spell now requires the caster to make a ranged touch attack against the target(s). This attack ignores  concealment and ignores any cover less than total cover. This attack is also not fooled by mirror image and the shield spell does not automatically negate it, though the shield spell forces it to target normal AC instead of Touch AC.

This says a ranged attack, not one ranged attack per missile.
If however the latter was the intention of the rule (which I doubt, but why not) I’ll happily roll for the four other missiles.

I have to agree with Josep it only says one roll which could go either way plus spell only does a max 25 dmg (I hit for more than that with my fist :P)

I do say a revision would be nice so it acts like a ray spell each getting it's own attack roll but GM has it written that way for a reason.

As for Fouls I do not hand them out lightly, If I had ruled the other way I would have simply said all other missles besides first miss.  A foul is for something blatantly breaking rules or trying to create a gray area where there is none

Re: Championship #15: Battle for the Belt

Brakt was waiting for the assault, and to the astonishment of the crowd, easily sidestepped the first 2 attacks sent from the elementals. Even more astonishing was that as Josep chanted the words to cast his spells, there was no effect, as if nothing had happened.

Waiting until the Wizard had sunk completely below the ground, Brakt drew forth his hammer and proceeded to launch a blistering attack at the wizard.  Fighting with his eyes closed wasn't easy, but he still managed to land a devastating critical.  Satisfied that the Wizard has fallen, he slips into the ground below him, moving towards the other magic user.

Re: Championship #15: Battle for the Belt

Didn't want to edit my last post, but it's come to my attention that I can't 5"step and move in the same turn.

I'll cancel the 5" step, and then move 5" less to N16:O17

Re: Championship #15: Battle for the Belt

I’m not quite clear on the order of your actions, do you move first and full-attack after? Or do you attack through the stone? Also when in that do you open your eyes? As far as I can tell, Josep has total cover from Brakt (cover, not concealment) throughout the round, so I don’t think any of your attacks are legal.

Also, can you confirm that you actually took zero Force damage from magic missile and admonishing ray?

Re: Championship #15: Battle for the Belt

As far as I'm aware, you're at S20-1:R19+0, of which S20-1 is in normal dirt.  Since I have a burrow speed, I can attack through dirt with no penalty.

Since the rules for large creatures are slightly different, I'll attack from Q20+0 towards S20-1, using ranged cover rules, and picking the lowest possible corner. I can then draw a straight line to any corner of S20-1, so you have no cover.

As for your spells. It's not that I take no damage, but simply that the spells have no effect.

In reply to Josep Gavinho (msg # 89):

I can say nothing on the attack yet need to study, but yes all the force damage was stopped/negated/cancelled/absorbed/resisted/reflected choose your term.

Edit:forgot reflected

Re: Championship #15: Battle for the Belt

Does Josep understand what happened to his spells?
He has Greater Arcane Sight active. Also he’s very clever.

I don’t understand Brakt’s turn — how many move actions did you take?
I personally didn’t find any reference to burrowing allowing to attack through dirt, but then maybe I’m biased ;)

Re: Championship #15: Battle for the Belt

I will let you know due to Sight that:

As for Actions:
End of Latro's Turn: Immediate

My Turn:
Full Attack (Full Round)
Move (Hero Point Standard as Move)
Free x2

In regards to burrowing. My take on the matter is that if you can move 20" or more per round(That's a dwarf's move speed through air), you should be able to attack as if attacking through air. For reference, I've currently got a 40" burrow speed.

In addition, my burrow speed does require me to hold my breath, which I wouldn't think would be required if I was underground digging tunnels or something to move.

Obviously I'm biased as well, though I do think there needs to be some give in cover rules, otherwise we could sit right next to each other at -2 and not be able to do anything at all.

Re: Championship #15: Battle for the Belt

Additional to last post:

Due to unclarity of rules, and not to fault of anyone, I do ask that should my attack be declared illegal, that the rules on attacking creatures while burrow are established, and I'm able to change my Hero point to before my attack, and as such move to a location where I can reach Josep.
